We visit a Birmingham pub that was rebuilt brick-by-brick

  • last year
We visited a Birmingham pub - The Golden Lion - which was rebuilt and relocated from Digbeth to Cannon Hill Park in Moseley in 1911. This 16th century pub was a guild house that has served many purposes, but sadly has fallen into disrepair. We spoke to park visitors about what they think should happen to it.

00:00 The Golden Lion was rebuilt in Cannon Hill Park brick by brick after it was under threat
00:08 of demolition in 1911.
00:11 This is a 16th century guildhouse that has served many purposes.
00:15 It has fallen into disrepair and lies vacant.
00:20 We spoke to some people at Cannon Hill Park about what should be done with the Golden
00:25 Lion and this is what they had to say.
00:28 Maybe they could, a bit like Back to Backs in the centre of Birmingham, they could turn
00:32 it into sort of an open air type museum where children and families can go in and look at
00:37 the house, learn about the original occupants who would have used it in Digbeth and a bit
00:42 about the history of it being moved to this location.
00:45 I think they'd learn a lot and it's good for local history, that's one idea.
00:50 It would be nice if this building was made of a museum, show the historic value and what
00:55 happened in this area and Digbeth area, it would preserve the heritage.
