00:04 the San Francisco 49ers are unloading, trading quarterback Trey Lance to
00:10 the Dallas Cowboys.
00:11 The 49ers will get a 2024 fourth round pick in exchange for
00:16 the guy who they gave up three first round picks to get.
00:20 Mike Fisher reporting on the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL here in Frisco,
00:24 where this thing happened in the dinner hour.
00:28 In what I would quantify as a shocker for a number of reasons,
00:34 the Cowboys and the 49ers of course have a great historical rivalry in NFL history.
00:39 They've also though made trades over the course of the years and
00:43 they have put their differences aside here.
00:46 Lance was the number three overall pick in the 2021 draft out of North Dakota State.
00:51 Was recently announced as the third string quarterback on the depth chart for
00:55 the 49ers.
00:56 So they were looking to dump him.
00:59 A cynic, a critic of what the Cowboys have done here would say they just dumped him
01:04 on Dallas.
01:05 And there's a lot of reasons to look at what the Cowboys have done here and
01:09 say, why bother?
01:12 Cowboys plan by the way, obviously starts with Dak Prescott.
01:14 This has nothing to do with him.
01:16 It includes Cooper Rush, who is under contract for two years.
01:20 And now it jumps into the picture of Trey Lance,
01:24 who has two years left on his contract.
01:26 He will be the third string quarterback here.
01:28 Will Greer will play on the Saturday night preseason exhibition.
01:32 He might play the whole thing against the Raiders, a chance to showcase him.
01:35 And also, let's not get any more Cowboys hurt as Trey Lance
01:40 works on packing his bags and making his way to Frisco.
01:43 So Lance will leapfrog over Greer here.
01:48 And then the Cowboys will start to work on making him not a bust.
01:53 As one person close to the situation put it to the Fish Report and

02:03 I can make the argument that Mike McCarthy,

02:13 And now he's gonna train a third string prospect who comes to Dallas with
02:18 guaranteed money.
02:20 Lance of course started as the 49ers starter a year ago, but
02:24 then had a injury that sidelined him for quite some time.
02:30 And then Brock Purdy took over and he's become the guy now in San Francisco.
02:36 In eight career games, Lance has gone 56 of 102 passing for
02:41 797 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.
02:45 He is a dual threat guy.
02:46 He's 6'4", 225.
02:49 So you can understand kind of what the Niners originally saw in him,
02:55 although they gave up the farm.
02:56 What you might not understand now from a cowboy's perspective is,
03:01 if the quarterback guru Kyle Shanahan doesn't like him and
03:06 can't get anything out of him, why do the Cowboys think they can get something out
03:11 of him, one more great show, one more great sidebar for
03:16 America's team and its fans to keep an eye on.
