Mob Land (John Travolta) (REVIEW) | Projector #Shorts | No country for old action stars

  • last year
John Travolta is a Sheriff in a dead-end town with a dark criminal underbelly, but while this might be trying to be a neo-noir crime drama, Film Brain thinks unfortunately just a Geezer Teaser pretending to be a real movie.

00:00 Out in the US and the UK is John Travolta in crime drama Mobland.
00:04 Travolta is the sheriff of a small town hit hard by the opioid crisis when his nephew,
00:09 Shiloh Fernandez, is talked into by his brother-in-law, Kevin Dillon, into robbing a pill mill run
00:14 by the mob, who send an enforcer, played by Stephen Dorff, to clean up the mess.
00:19 Even though Travolta is all over the posters and the advertising, it's not really his
00:22 movie. It's another geezer teaser with an aging action star. It's the kind of role
00:27 that women played by declining Bruce Willis a few years ago, but Travolta is in better
00:31 shape and gives this underwritten part a good go and elevates the movie along with Stephen
00:36 Dorff.
00:37 The movie clearly wants to be no Country for Old Men or Hell or High Water, and if you
00:41 watch a couple of minutes of Mobland, you might think it's one of those movies because
00:44 it looks and acts like them, but it's a facsimile. It doesn't have the quality
00:48 of the writing or the tension of them, and as a result, it's just a grimly violent
00:53 bore from start to finish that I found very tedious to get through.
