00:00 Good morning and welcome to Newsdesk here on the Joinish Channel.
00:04 Now coming up in this bulletin, MPP President Joe Hopeful and former Energy Minister Bwachi
00:09 Ejako dismisses media reports suggesting that he has stepped down for his close contender
00:15 Adai Inimu.
00:16 We have details.
00:17 Now, the National Identification Authority is set to help the government rid its payroll
00:25 of ghost names with a mandatory Ghana card registration for all public sector workers
00:30 beginning today.
00:32 We suspect that part of the intention of the Contra and General Department is to get rid
00:39 of ghost names on government payroll.
00:44 And the 2023 edition of the biggest street art festival in West Africa, Chale Wote, ends
00:50 with multiple events as thousands troop to the Black Star Square to participate in the
00:56 annual celebration of arts and culture.
01:04 Now details of these plus business and more in this are, stay with us.
01:08 Well, the camp of Bwachi Ejako is dismissing media reports suggesting that he has stepped
01:35 down for his close contender Adai Inimu.
01:37 Both candidates had the same vote from the results of last Saturday's superdelegate
01:41 conference.
01:42 This leaves the party with six presidential hopefuls.
01:45 Instead of the five, they were expecting at the end of the post.
01:48 To determine the way forward on which of the two takes the fifth slot on the ballot sheet
01:53 for the party's upcoming conference, the new patriotic party is targeting to hold a
01:58 crucial meeting after the unexpected tie.
02:02 Meanwhile, prior to a decision from the party on the prevailing development, media reports
02:07 are suggesting Bwachi Ejako has stepped down for Adai Inimu.
02:11 Benjamin Ashite is campaign spokesperson for Bwachi Ejako and he joins us live with more.
02:16 Grateful to you for joining us there.
02:18 Now, what can you tell us about the news suggesting that your boss has stepped down?
02:25 Good morning to you, my brother, and your cherished viewers this morning.
02:31 I think we are very surprised with the news, especially when this morning I've had the
02:38 opportunity to talk to your morning show this morning.
02:42 I mean, Joy News, I mean the FM station.
02:46 You mean Joy 99.7 FM?
02:48 That's what has happened.
02:51 And we believe that this is politics.
02:53 And so people believe playing it dirty is what will make them have what they want.
03:02 But in the last hour, have you spoken to your boss to know what he's thinking?
03:08 Yes, the only thing I made it clear on my morning interview was that the fact that there
03:16 is going to be a meeting between my boss and Honorable Adai Inimu this afternoon.
03:20 And after that, we'll be able to come clear on the way forward.
03:24 But as I talk to you now, there is nothing of we stepping down for Honorable Adai Inimu.
03:31 The meeting has not come up yet.
03:33 And we'll be coming out clearly to show viewers and cherished supporters what we intend to
03:40 do.
03:41 But as of now, we are prepared for Saturday election and there is nothing like backing
03:47 out.
03:49 So what is the focus of this meeting you're having with Mr. Adai Inimu this afternoon?
03:55 Well we believe that politics, there are engagements in politics.
03:59 We want to talk to Honorable Adai Inimu.
04:01 We believe that Honorable Ateji Akustan is a better chance to help the people of Ghana
04:09 and the NPP government to solve our current challenges and problems.
04:15 And so we want to engage him first.
04:17 We see the engagement is our first step and then if it doesn't work, we prepare for the
04:21 election on Saturday.
04:24 So your aim for this meeting is to try and convince Adai Inimu to step down?
04:31 The key reason for this meeting, I should say.
04:38 But have you had preliminary contact with the camp to understand what they also do make
04:42 of Saturday and whether or not there is even that option of stepping down?
04:48 Yeah, the only thing we were able to verify is the fact that they are not behind those
04:56 posting the fake news that Honorable Ateji Akustan has actually stepped down.
05:03 That is one thing we've been able to verify in this short time.
05:06 And they are also surprised and knowing that there is a pending meeting to be held this
05:11 afternoon.
05:12 So we don't know the courtesy who are actually perpetrating this act, but we believe that
05:18 there will be a mutual understanding between us and Honorable Adai Inimu after this afternoon's
05:26 meeting.
05:28 Interesting.
05:29 So you are denying that your boss has not said anywhere that he is stepping down for
05:38 Adai Inimu?
05:39 As far as I'm concerned, and I have spoken to him this morning, there is nothing of such.
05:46 The only thing we are focused on is our meeting this afternoon, and probably our continued
05:52 preparation for Saturday.
05:55 But does your camp think that there is a chance of winning the November 4th election looking
06:03 at the vote you garnered in the superdelegates?
06:07 Yes, you see, we have always said that, well, the superdelegates is a tradition in the MPP
06:15 that happened once and this is the second time.
06:17 But we believe that the team in support, our team in support is at a grassroot, and we
06:23 need to be able to get there and to be able to appeal for them to vote for us.
06:29 Once we are able to be part of the five, then we will know how to strategize and get the
06:36 votes at the base.
06:40 But I mean, considering the vote you get, what is giving you the confidence that in
06:45 fact in a major election, in a major primaries, your candidates can really pull a surprise
06:52 and win this election?
06:53 Because at the end of the day, it is not just participating, it is about winning, isn't it?
06:58 Well, we have over 200,000 votes at the grassroots, and I will tell you that less than 1,000 of
07:07 200,000 is not a good sample for you to use this superdelegates election to judge that
07:14 your performance in the superdelegates election will actually reflect in the November 4th
07:21 election.
07:22 We still believe that the people, the party people are at the grassroots and they are
07:26 waiting for Honorable Achie Ejaku to come to them, to talk to them, because he is a
07:33 man who has always been giving the MPP party public policies to win elections.
07:42 So he knows what the ordinary Ghanaian wants, and he is ever ready to give to ordinary Ghanaian
07:49 to solve the ordinary Ghanaian problem.
07:51 What we are saying from the camp of Honorable Achie Ejaku is that we don't see anybody as
07:56 the enemy.
07:57 We see poverty as the number one enemy in Ghana, and that is what we are trying to eradicate
08:01 or at most reduce.
08:07 Will you be surprised if your boss decides to step down for Adai Nimo?
08:13 Yes, I will be surprised because of what we have discussed this morning, but yet there
08:19 is nothing impossible.
08:21 So once there is nothing impossible, it means that your boss can decide to step down for
08:28 Adai Nimo and you won't be surprised?
08:32 I said I will be surprised considering our discussion this morning, but like I said,
08:37 there is going to be a meeting between the two, so I want to know what will go on and
08:43 then we will take it up from there.
08:44 Whatever happens, we will think of the betterment of the party, the betterment of our candidates
08:51 Honorable Achie Ejaku and of course Honorable Adai Nimo.
08:57 Grateful to you for joining us, but before I let you go, what are your viewpoints on
09:02 the election that went on on Saturday?
09:05 How satisfied were you with all the processes that went on?
09:10 Well there were some, one or two glitches that we were able to see, but I believe they
09:17 were not enough to mark the electionary process.
09:20 And so in all we will say it was successful and the party leaders have done their best.
09:26 Okay, alright.
09:27 Thank you very much.
09:28 Now still staying with the NPP, Kwadwo Poku Amonga the aspirant have failed to qualify
09:33 for next phase of the new patriotic party's presidential race in November 2023.
09:38 Speaking on the AM show, Kwadwo Poku said he is still a beacon of hope and needs to
09:43 step back and re-strategize for the next elections.
09:46 He has also condemned the assault on North East Regional Coordinator of Alan Chiramanting
09:53 during the NPP super delegate elections conducted on Saturday.
09:57 Like I said, an internal delegate who are supposed to basically tell me, Kwadwo Poku
10:05 that look, we accept the message, we want this kind of relationship, we want to be with
10:09 you and we want you to help us when we are in need.
10:12 Clearly he said that no, we don't need that.
10:14 We don't want that kind of politics.
10:16 We are happy with the politics that we have and you coming in and telling us these things,
10:20 for me, we are not interested.
10:21 So I have to go back and strategize.
10:25 Maybe in my next rodeo in this thing, I will be like everybody else.
10:28 Basically don't pick calls and return messages and basically just get resources to deploy
10:33 on the day.
10:34 I think that is what will help.
10:35 I couldn't go to Kumasi because I was in the Western region and maybe if I've gotten people
10:40 in, if I have been able to go to Kumasi and basically, I would have basically been a different
10:44 story.
10:45 But look, there is no love lost.
10:47 I'm not upset.
10:48 I'm not, I mean, the only thing I want to talk about is what happened in North East
10:52 and I think that should be talked about.
10:54 You know, everywhere in the 15 regions plus the head office, it was a free and fair election.
11:01 North East was not a free and fair election.
11:04 That is where the rep of Allen was beaten.
11:08 That is where the rep of Kenyapon was chased away.
11:11 You guys have seen that video of Ken being upset and he was upset because of what has
11:16 happened in Nalerugu.
11:18 I want to call on the president to let the regional minister resign because what happened
11:23 in North East is a taint on the party and it's sad for the entire politics of the party.
11:28 It is not a free and fair election.
11:30 Today there's a meeting at the party head office.
11:32 We want to go there and also add that the regional chairman should be brought to the
11:35 disciplinary committee.
11:36 Every rule that was set in the election by the election committee was flouted in the
11:42 North East area and I think that should be addressed heavily.
11:50 Well let's take you to Parliament now because the committee sitting on that leaked tape
11:55 which on which there was a plan to oust the inspector general of police is sitting as
12:00 we speak.
12:01 So I'll take you there for you to really understand what's happening.
12:04 I'm a public speaker in relation to a leaked audio and so we're going to first of all attempt
12:14 to authenticate the audio and once that is done we would listen to Chief Buri Nnabu and
12:26 the process members would ask relevant questions and when that is done Chief Buri Nnabu can
12:36 then be discharged.
12:40 The leaked audio would serve as a pointer to the subsequent calling of further witnesses
12:47 if needs be.
12:49 So our work is going to be done within the context I have outlined.
12:53 Chairman, thank you for the opportunity.
12:59 Yes Vice, you said that after the interrogation of the witness members will ask relevant questions.
13:10 So you say in other words that you disallow irrelevant questions.
13:17 That is a joke.
13:19 Okay so I think it's important that the witness should introduce himself and then we'll have
13:29 to play the tape.
13:31 So Great King Nnamungda, you have the opportunity now to introduce yourself.
13:41 Who are you?
13:42 And then you just have to know background information about who you are and then we'll
13:49 proceed.
13:51 I am the former chief of Nnamung in the Northeast region in Mampulu Kingdom.
14:10 I am also formerly a regional chairman for MPP, the ruling party, former regional chairman.
14:26 Currently I am a member of the National Council of the same ruling party.
14:33 So this is what I know myself.
14:37 Would you be gracious enough to tell us about your educational background?
14:47 Me I haven't been to school.
14:58 I am a chief, so a chief.
15:09 I have wives.
15:11 And what is your religious affiliation?
15:14 Are you a Christian or a Muslim?
15:20 Well as a parliament chief, a traditional ruler, I am in all.
15:33 And I have to also ask you, what is your profession?
15:38 Have you done any, what is your business background?
15:42 I am a businessman and also a contractor, general contractor.
15:52 So members, I think it is now opportune for us to play the tape and then we can commence
16:03 the serious proceedings.
16:04 So if you have the tape.
16:25 Thank you.
16:48 Thank you.
17:00 Chairman, whilst we wait for the technical team to set up for us to listen to the tape,
17:28 I know it is going to take some time.
17:34 But the parliament chief did not appear alone.
17:37 You can see some people behind him.
17:41 It is very important we know you.
17:45 It is very, very important for the record.
17:49 Chairman, with your indulgence, whilst we wait for...
17:51 Honorable Buama, who is associated with the Tumfos Palace, and you can see his traditional
18:09 tendencies.
18:10 He says the king did not come alone.
18:12 He came with an entourage.
18:13 So you should try and introduce yourself.
18:15 You have the opportunity to do so.
18:22 Honorable Nnabu, former member of parliament for the Union of Constituents.
18:32 Very important person.
18:35 You sat on committees and you appear before this committee and you want to hide.
18:43 My very good friend.
18:44 Oh, I see.
18:45 Yes.
18:46 We used to do a lot of things together.
18:47 I shouldn't talk about it.
18:48 So the rest of you can use this microphone and introduce yourselves in turn.
18:57 Chairman, a bird whispered in my ear when you indicated that Honorable Patrick Buama
19:06 has some association with the Tumfos Palace.
19:11 The bird whispered that your good self has very senior royal relationship with the Tumfos.
19:21 And even in the Achieve Kingdom as well.
19:25 So the chairman's status must also be properly defined.
19:33 My name is Shradd Smart, PA to Chief Daniel Boulinawu.
19:39 I'm Daniel Salamnawu, Chief is my father.
19:55 Amanda Quentin, Chief Secretary.
20:05 I'm Samare Abraham, Chief's grandson.
20:10 I just escort to hear what is going on.
20:18 Just for the record, Council 2 Chief was my mate at law school.
20:23 Just to be on record.
20:25 For me not to be conflicted in any way.
20:27 I have to disclose that.
20:31 And I cannot deny him of his feasts.
20:35 I know Raymond Capiel.
20:41 I doubt it.
20:42 Please, are you set?
20:43 Are you set, please?
20:44 Okay.
20:45 Raymond.
20:46 Chief Boulinawu of Dansoman and Big Farm.
21:11 Are you still there?
21:12 We've also checked on you, Samare.
21:17 Dansoman and his mission.
21:20 Yes.
21:21 I'm at last stop now.
21:23 We know your house.
21:26 At least the committee has done some work.
21:34 And Big Farm.
21:35 Yes.
21:36 Yes.
21:37 Yes.
21:38 Yes.
21:39 Lovely.
21:40 Chief, the chairman of the committee.
21:48 That was my legal office.
21:50 Yes.
21:51 He used to handle my...
21:55 We all know it is lawyer who was attending court with me.
22:01 But that was a long time ago.
22:08 But, chief, as a chief, I know you have many children.
22:16 Sometimes it's difficult for you to make all of them up.
22:20 I sit here and see my father and I don't believe you can make me up.
22:24 Can you see make me up?
22:29 I think I'm a police officer.
22:34 That is one of the sons who was police officer, correct?
22:37 Thank you.
22:38 You were a Buddhist man.
22:39 He's a GPO.
22:40 He's a Santiago Puto.
22:41 He's a Santiago Puto.
22:42 Yes.
22:43 Thank you.
22:44 I don't want my father to forget of me.
22:57 Well so what you are watching is the live feed from the parliament.
23:03 The committee is preparing to listen to that tape and then based on that it will be questioning
23:07 Bougry Nnabu who has introduced himself and his entourage.
23:11 We are still there.
23:12 We'll bring you whatever will be happening in there.
23:14 But as they prepare to get the sound ready, let's move and talk about some other stories.
23:18 But still staying with the MPP, the Director of Research and Elections of the party, Evans
23:24 Nnamaku says they are preparing to undertake that second round of voting this Saturday
23:31 to separate the candidate who tied on faith Adayinimo and Buakye Ejaku.
23:36 He's also been talking to us about the disciplinary actions that the party has commenced against
23:42 some people.
23:43 Listening.
23:44 Compliance, racial free, fair and transparent conduct of the whole ethnic.
23:51 The party also put together the Code of Conduct Committee.
23:55 And at all times, any party session, who feels at ease, has the platform to submit his or
24:05 her concerns.
24:06 Well in the midst of elections, some levels of disagreement may occur.
24:17 The onus is still on the individual to submit appropriate statistics or considerations.
24:24 But the party is ready to go into it and find amicable solutions.
24:34 And it is the reason why the General Secretary is sending an invitation to these gentlemen
24:40 to appear before the disciplinary committee for further investigation.
24:47 And when are they supposed to appear before the committee?
24:50 Well, the invitation is that they will appear before the committee.
24:56 And it's actually internal engagement.
24:58 So that one will be done internally.
25:02 What are the terms of reference for this committee?
25:06 Thank you.
25:07 My brother, I mentioned that we set up the Code of Conduct Committee when the party came
25:13 up with the Code of Conduct for the conduct of our internal primary, both presidential
25:19 and parliamentary.
25:20 The party also, when it opened the package on on mixed things, came out with rules and
25:30 regulations.
25:31 And so we were guided by the rules and regulations, the guidelines, and the party's conclusions,
25:38 as well as the details of the Code of Conduct.
25:41 And so it is known to all party members and all stakeholders of things that are expected
25:49 of them and things that they must not engage in.
25:53 And so we are guided by the party's conclusions in our Code of Conduct and our guidelines
25:59 and otherwise.
26:06 Now some of the aspirants have had several issues.
26:11 We've heard of what happened in the Northeast region where an agent of one of the candidates,
26:16 I mean, Alan Kodjig-Jomanti, was beating.
26:20 Kenny Japona has also had issues that his agent was sacked from some polling stations.
26:24 How is the party addressing all of these concerns?
26:26 Well, so in relation to these gentlemen who give the party a complete picture of what
26:34 is going on in the region, and in relation to the regulations, when you put it, you saw
26:42 exactly what happened.
26:43 I don't have the benefit of watching.
26:44 I'm unable to comment.
26:45 But the party is taking steps to address these internal challenges that are there.
26:46 Let's give the party the benefit of the doubt to go through it and get all those details
26:47 out there.
26:48 And then find solutions to them.
27:07 In any case, these are parties with internal issues.
27:30 I mean, the Comms manager for the Alan team, Boabinyasamwa, he also made certain statements.
27:40 Some people thought that if we were going to invite people for the dismissal committee,
27:43 he should also be invited when he was left out.
27:45 Well, those people are entitled to their opinion.
27:48 But for now, the MVP goes with his gentlemen.
27:57 And the party says to ensure that it stays in prosecution, our victory is 26.
28:07 And so it gets to a point, it's internal mechanism to resolve these challenges.
28:13 Let's ask the party to get the results.
28:17 Well, okay.
28:18 Before I let you go, if you look at the cost involved in organizing the elections for the
28:22 two people, you've told us that it's going to fall under the same format.
28:25 People have to travel to their regions to vote.
28:29 Is it really a cost effective action?
28:31 Can the party have any means of dealing with it?
28:34 Well, democracy is expensive.
28:38 We wouldn't impose.
28:41 And so people come on their own, give options.
28:46 People who are so in need.
28:50 The person you were talking to earlier said probability and if.
28:59 What if both ones do not work out?
29:02 And so yes, there will be some engagement.
29:07 And if you get the party, national, a call for an amendment, national executive committee,
29:17 national committee to discuss the report from the election committee.
29:24 And so if you are looking at the financial, you might not be surprised.
29:31 It's a whole complete picture of what must be done and done for, so that all people there
29:38 will be satisfied at the end of the day.
29:42 The party has been engaged in and the best.
29:52 Now some people have also said this process is too costly and that it should be done away
29:59 with.
30:00 How do you respond to that?
30:02 There will be a few.
30:05 First, the party's client provisions, its constitution.
30:12 We can't have a party that neglects provisions in the constitution and do otherwise.
30:20 So after the election, a review is done, a recommendation is given, a national conference
30:27 will come to amend the constitution.
30:30 So there's two things and this is what we have and it won't work with the amendment.
30:39 All right.
30:40 I'm grateful to you, Mr Evans Nnamaku for helping us out here.
30:43 He is Director of Research and Elections for the NPP.
30:50 On to other stories now and the National Identification Authority is beginning a new registration drive
30:55 for first time applicants aged 15 and above with an initial 10 day period exclusively
31:01 for public sector workers yet to obtain the Ghana card.
31:04 The NIA aims to digitise public records and tackle the issue of ghost names in the public
31:09 sector.
31:10 Public sector employees need to submit documents including their previous month's pay slip,
31:16 genuine birth certificate, valid Ghanaian passport or certificate of acquired citizenship
31:21 or naturalisation.
31:22 Here is Executive Secretary of the Authority, Professor Ken Atifuah.
31:27 We suspect that part of the intention of the Contra and Continental General Department
31:34 is to get rid of ghost names on government payroll which would be to the benefit of all
31:39 of us as a country.
31:42 And again, I think that it may introduce frustrations or difficulties for those who are public sector
31:49 workers on government payroll but who elect not to go get a Ghana card because you need
31:57 the Ghana card to be enrolled onto the Contra and Continental General's biometric payroll
32:04 system.
32:06 You must be verified on that system in order that your bona fides are established and you
32:12 can get your pay.
32:17 This is the news desk on The Journey's Channel.
32:19 We'll take a quick break.
32:20 When we're back, we'll bring you Business.
32:25 Hi, good morning.
32:28 Welcome to Business.
32:29 My name is Darrell Quayle.
32:31 As part of efforts to offer diversity and value addition, advertising giant DDP Outdoor
32:36 has rebranded to DDP with the vision to create value for global brands.
32:41 The company hopes to expand its operations to the African continent, offering cutting-edge
32:46 advertising services to its clients.
32:48 There's more in this report.
32:51 Formerly known as DDP Outdoor, the leading advertising firm has rebranded to DDP with
32:57 the tagline "Expect More."
33:00 The move is part of efforts to expand the operations of the company to serve diverse
33:04 needs of clients and solidify their market dominance.
33:09 The exercise, which coincided with the company's 50th anniversary, will see a shift in customer
33:19 satisfaction.
33:20 Speaking at a staff deba to commemorate its jubilee anniversary, Chief Executive Officer
33:26 of the group, Norbert Rufu, had this to say.
33:30 Over the past 50 years, we've been known for outdoor form advertising.
33:35 But actually when you look back in our history, you realize that at some point in time, we
33:39 were doing a lot in terms of building exhibitions, we were doing a lot in terms of point of sale
33:46 materials, but we have moved and innovated beyond that.
33:50 And what we now see from the next coming years, we are going to do a lot in terms of in-store
33:56 advertising.
33:57 We are getting into below the line marketing.
34:00 In other words, we are making DDP into a 360 advertising company.
34:05 Our vision is to be the marketing communications experts, elevating brands and creating value
34:13 for our stakeholders.
34:14 So with that, we are not limiting it to Ghana, we are actually expanding it into Africa.
34:21 The board chair of the group, Nenya Ejebe, stated that the new birth of DDP will ensure
34:27 excellence in innovation.
34:29 I think the whole tagline and the rebranding to expect more, I think we realize that yes,
34:36 out of home, outdoor has a role to play in the media mix of big brands, but we also need
34:41 to play in other spaces below the line and elsewhere.
34:46 So yeah, we're being open-minded about where to look next and want to continue to be an
34:53 innovative company working with key brands in the country.
34:57 Nenya Ejebe eulogizes the founder of the group, the late Thobo Mensah.
35:02 He's a pioneer, no question.
35:05 He's the founding president of AAG.
35:08 And yeah, I think he's well known.
35:10 He was well known in the country and actually across the continent and even beyond.
35:15 There's an international association of outdoor operators globally.
35:19 DDP is a member and Mr. T has been a pioneer and a thought leader in our industry, not
35:26 even just in outdoor, but in all advertising spaces in Ghana.
35:29 It's all about quality of service, timeliness, attention to detail and excellence.
35:38 As I mentioned in my speech, our founder was all about those values and that's what we
35:41 try to live out day in, day out.
35:43 As part of activities to mark the Jubilee celebrations, DDP will also embark on sustainable
35:50 initiatives such as tree planting exercises and breast cancer awareness.
35:56 In other news, Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Reverend Amesha Dai
36:00 Osuamwa is appealing to taxpayers re-transparency in their tax obligations in order to qualify
36:05 for some refund at the end of the year.
36:08 According to him, many people qualify for an annual refund of a percentage of their
36:13 tax payments but are unable to reclaim due to their inability to file the right taxes.
36:18 He explains.
36:19 Refund is very, very effective and many institutions and enterprises are constantly getting refunds
36:27 in millions.
36:28 The challenge we have is for people understanding that refund comes from filing.
36:35 So if you are not filing, then you will not be able to know that you have overpaid or
36:40 you are underpaid.
36:41 And therefore, that is why I'm saying that the mandatory filing and mandatory filing
36:46 of all taxes is very, very important because it is through that, take for example the individuals.
36:52 Many of us, our companies deduct our PAYE.
36:57 We don't file, we don't indicate that we have aged parents, which gives you a relief.
37:03 You have a relief that you get if you have children in school.
37:07 We don't indicate it.
37:08 And therefore, you would have two aged parents alive who are paying the same tax as the one
37:14 whose parents, for me, has passed away.
37:20 But under normal circumstances, if you are taking care of aged parents, there are reliefs
37:25 that you must get.
37:26 But if you don't file, there's no way of me knowing that your parents are alive and you
37:31 are taking care of them.
37:32 Is this relief really working?
37:34 If you file, you will get the reliefs.
37:36 I sign almost every day money for people.
37:40 The tax law allows that for every tax that we collect, 6% of the tax is set aside for
37:47 refunds.
37:48 And so that money is always accumulated there, 6% of every tax you pay is not sent to the
37:54 consumer refund, it's sent into a refund account.
37:58 It's available to refund to anybody who has a refund.
38:01 So the important thing I want to carry across to Ghanaians is that take up the habit of
38:07 filing your tax.
38:08 If you file your tax, whatever refund that you need to get, you'll be able to get it
38:13 from GNRE.
38:14 And that's it for business.
38:17 The news continues after this break.
38:25 Welcome back from the break.
38:26 Now it was a week-long festival that featured a meditative procession through the street
38:32 of Osu, screening of movies, display of artwork, drama, and more.
38:38 The climax of the 2023 edition of the Chale Water Street Arts Festival was at a weekend
38:43 as thousands of Ghanaians trooped to the Black Star Square and Osu to participate in West
38:49 Africa's biggest celebration of arts and culture.
38:53 Maxwell Agbaba has more in this report.
39:01 It is close to midnight and beneath the moonless African sky, thousands of festival goers are
39:08 still gathered at iconic Black Star Square.
39:11 The intoxicating rhythms of Amanziba Nadburu's high-life music fill the air.
39:34 And Aisoba is on stage, adding a unique flavor to the musical concert.
40:00 There were more performances after him.
40:28 And the festivities continue.
40:43 Less than 100 meters away, Joy FM's DJ Black is on the tent tables, treating patrons to
40:49 some good music.
40:51 Hosting alongside him is Lexis Bale.
40:53 The two electrify
41:22 the crowd.
41:50 The patrons couldn't hold back their excitement.
42:07 Earlier in the day, the streets of Osu came alive as various artists had the opportunity
42:14 to showcase their talents.
42:16 The Black Star Square was a canvas of creativity, with vendors selling African artifacts witnessing
42:23 booming sales.
42:24 One of the artists expressed how the Chaluky Festival is a platform that amplifies local
42:30 talent.
42:31 The Chaluky Festival has become the big magnet attracting people from all walks of life.
43:01 Here to the Osu Castle Gardens and also to the Black Star Square.
43:06 People from politics, media, medicine and all that you can think of.
43:11 It is a festival of arts, culture and entertainment, plus everything African.
43:17 I'm excited to have with me here the member of parliament for Chaluky, Zanet O. Ajman
43:22 Rawlings.
43:23 But this means a lot because this is certainly one way of reviving the activity, not just
43:29 here but in Osu.
43:31 Osu is a very old town with a lot of history and this creates an opportunity where art,
43:37 where storytelling meets the current generation and helps them to marry what they know about
43:42 their various family histories to what we're doing now.
43:45 So when people come to Ghana on their pilgrimage back home as they retrace the ancestry and
43:50 they come to the Chaluky Festival for example and they come here to the castle and they
43:54 go to the various old houses in Osu or they go to the Black Star Square, there's a story
43:58 that they can weave in with what they know that enriches the narrative more than what
44:02 it's already been.
44:03 The Ghana Tourism Authority predicts that in 2023 over one million tourists will visit
44:09 Ghana and the Chaluky Street Art Festival is playing a significant role in achieving
44:14 that goal.
44:16 Tourists from around the world have fallen in love with Chaluky and the warm hospitability
44:21 of Ghana.
44:22 Seeing that lively environment that we're expecting to find, so let's see.
44:27 So you're going to be here till evening I'm sure?
44:29 Yeah we will yeah, we'll see the live music and all that.
44:32 How long have you been in Ghana?
44:33 One month.
44:34 One month, what about you?
44:36 Two months.
44:37 Two months, okay great.
44:38 Tell me, what do you love about Ghana?
44:41 The people, the French people and the very good food.
44:44 What kind of food?
44:45 What's your favourite Ghanaian food?
44:46 Fufu.
44:47 Oh you love fufu.
44:48 And red red.
44:49 Where are you from?
44:50 Which country?
44:51 France and I'm from Germany.
44:52 Okay, tell me, how long have you been in Ghana though?
44:56 It's been five weeks now.
44:58 Five weeks in Ghana, okay.
44:59 Five weeks too?
45:00 Four weeks.
45:01 Four weeks, okay great.
45:02 Tell me, what do you make of the Chaluky festival?
45:06 What we think about?
45:07 Yeah.
45:08 It's really colourful, it's really nice.
45:09 Yeah, local fabrics are really beautiful, yeah I think so.
45:10 But the painting, I think I prefer the painting.
45:11 Okay.
45:12 Yeah, all the paintings.
45:13 The paintings, all the paintings, okay.
45:14 And you?
45:15 What about you?
45:16 Oh I don't know, I think I like everything.
45:17 I also like the fabric.
45:18 What about you?
45:19 I like the fabric.
45:20 What about you?
45:21 I like the fabric.
45:22 What about you?
45:23 I like the fabric.
45:24 What about you?
45:25 I like the fabric.
45:26 I also like the fabrics.
45:27 You also like the fabrics?
45:28 Yeah.
45:29 Okay.
45:30 And the dancing and everything.
45:31 The music.
45:32 Okay.
45:33 Finally, when you go back to your country, what are you taking back?
45:35 What are you going to tell them about Ghana?
45:39 What are we going to talk about?
45:40 Yeah, I don't know, but the mood, the people in the street, the food and Ghana time I think
45:46 also.
45:47 Okay, what about you?
45:51 I think, I like the sense of humour here.
45:53 It's really funny, people are really nice.
45:55 People are really hospitable, very nice, right?
45:57 Yeah.
45:58 It's a Ghana thing.
45:59 Yeah.
46:00 It is not just the adults who are captivated.
46:04 The festival has enchanted the younger generation as well.
46:08 They want the Chaliwate Street Art Festival every month.
46:12 Gabriela.
46:13 Oh, Gabriela.
46:14 I love your confidence.
46:15 How are you doing?
46:16 Good.
46:17 Oh, great.
46:18 Tell me, are you having fun here?
46:20 Yeah.
46:21 You like it?
46:22 Mm-hmm.
46:23 I'm not a fun girl.
46:24 I'm not a fun girl.
46:25 Well, my mum is from Ghana and my dad's from Ghana, but we live in the UK.
46:31 Okay.
46:32 So, me and my sister, they're from the UK.
46:35 Shout out to Grandma.
46:38 Hi, Grandma.
46:40 Hello, Grandma.
46:41 We love you guys, okay?
46:43 See you.
46:44 Okay, bye.
46:45 I'm so much impressed about their artworks, especially with the canvas ones.
46:52 Hi, what's your name?
46:53 I'm Brozki.
46:54 How you doing, man?
46:55 Good, bro.
46:56 Well, I'm more into art, so this is more or less like what I want to experience.
47:01 So, I'm just here to have fun, basically.
47:03 What's the attraction for you?
47:05 The attraction to art?
47:07 Oh, well, the fact that you have to...
47:11 It has a deeper meaning and basically not just what we see and how it...
47:16 What we go through in our everyday lives is transformed into something beautiful.
47:20 It's what excites me about art.
47:23 All right, so that's how we wrap up the bulletin, but we're still having an eye in parliament
47:46 where Bogri Nabu is being interrogated over that alleged tape,
47:52 which had that plot to remove the IGP on it.
47:56 We still have an eye there, and that in due course would bring you that feed from parliament to you.
48:06 But that's how we wrap up the bulletin.
48:08 There's more news on myjawonline.com.
48:10 My name is Samuel Kodjoe-Brice.
48:12 Good morning.
48:15 ( music playing )
48:18 (upbeat music)
