00:00 (water bubbling)
00:02 - That was the hardest thing I've ever done.
00:16 - Let's (beep) go.
00:18 Welcome back to Barstool Outdoors.
00:20 I'm Sydney Wells, and this week I'm taking
00:22 Megan Megan Money out of the office
00:24 and into Ocean City, Maryland
00:26 to catch white marlin for her first time.
00:28 (upbeat music)
00:31 My first time, apparently there's great crabs here,
00:37 there's great orange crushes,
00:39 which we've already been trying.
00:40 I wanna catch one, and I wanna see what these guys haul in.
00:43 - Yesterday sucked.
00:51 It was rough all day.
00:55 And it was decent fishing.
00:58 - Fish, here we go.
00:59 - First boat just docked, big swordfish.
01:02 They have, you can tell they're keeping it covered,
01:03 keeping it cool, but we're about to put it on the scales
01:06 and it looks like a really good fish,
01:07 so I bet these guys are pumped.
01:09 - Feels like a gender reveal.
01:12 I'm just wanting to know what the baby is.
01:14 Oh, hell yeah, brother.
01:18 What a fish.
01:21 - Weight sayers, we call them coconut.
01:26 We read the weights out, so I wonder how he got that job.
01:29 Just seems like a very official,
01:31 like a judge of the tournament.
01:33 - 54.5 on yellowfin number one.
01:36 Pretty fish there, baby.
01:39 That's a true trophy right there.
01:43 When the boat comes in, these guys are taking measurements.
01:49 We're also labeling them on each category
01:52 they are in in the tournament.
01:55 We're also checking for mutilated fish,
01:58 shark bites, skin rips, and we've got a 74 inch big eye here
02:03 should be somewhere around 240 pounds.
02:07 Beautiful fish, certainly a trophy.
02:09 - I'm just, I'm so excited.
02:17 This makes me so much more excited for tomorrow.
02:19 Like, I don't think I could have been more excited,
02:20 but now I am.
02:21 (upbeat music)
02:24 - So, Christine Marie with a boat full of people
02:28 are gonna be here.
02:29 The people we're gonna actually be fishing with tomorrow,
02:31 they're about to pull in.
02:32 They're a hook boat, and they've been fishing
02:34 for this entire tournament,
02:35 so they're about to check in.
02:36 We're gonna fish with them tomorrow for marlin and tuna.
02:38 They're gonna be exhausted tomorrow,
02:40 but I'm excited to see what they brought in.
02:41 They do have fish.
02:43 Oh my gosh.
02:43 - Hi, I'm Whitney.
02:45 - Oh, Sydney.
02:46 - It's gonna be fun.
02:47 - It's gonna be so fun.
02:48 Hi, Sydney.
02:50 Nice to meet you.
02:51 - Megan, nice to meet you too.
02:52 - Are you exhausted?
02:54 - No, it's not bad.
02:55 - How long have you guys been out there for?
02:57 - 32 hours.
02:58 - What was the morale like fishing in these conditions?
03:01 - So, we only got one bite the entire tournament,
03:04 so it was 20 hours.
03:06 We didn't get a single bite, so everybody was pretty mad,
03:09 'cause it was 30 hours straight of fishing,
03:11 and then we got a bite, and we got really fired up.
03:14 - Okay, so do you agree the morale was pretty low
03:17 until you guys got that one and only bite?
03:19 - Oh yeah.
03:20 (laughs)
03:20 - We were coming home.
03:21 - I almost quit fishing.
03:22 - Forever.
03:23 - And how were the conditions?
03:24 I heard that like--
03:25 - They were bad.
03:25 - Every wave was crashing over the boat,
03:27 and yeah, it was great.
03:29 - Woo!
03:30 - Yeah, that was awesome.
03:30 I'm fired up.
03:31 - Are you, is it Megan making money?
03:32 - What's up, bro?
03:33 - No way.
03:34 - I follow you on Twitter.
03:35 - That's great.
03:35 And you're Sydney.
03:37 (upbeat music)
03:39 - Look at all the coming out of it.
03:46 - What was it?
03:47 It was in his tail.
03:49 - You can't get all the juice.
03:52 - I got it all over the shirt.
03:53 - Yeah, you did.
03:54 What time do you think we'll leave?
03:56 What time generally do you think they like to go out?
03:59 - Oh, we'll go out like 3.30, 4.30.
04:03 Just depends how far we're going.
04:04 I'm sure that like, it just depends on the weather too.
04:07 It's really good that you've fished before,
04:10 so you know the whole like getting up really early deal.
04:12 - Oh yeah, no.
04:14 And also I just, I'm good with getting up early.
04:16 I'm just like an,
04:17 I've always been a very much an early bird.
04:20 Like, you know the friends that would like,
04:22 at sleepovers that would wake everybody up
04:23 because they were up first?
04:24 - That's you?
04:25 - Yeah.
04:26 - Oh my gosh, even before you were a mother?
04:28 - Yeah.
04:28 - Oh no.
04:29 - I just have like a, like a ball of energy until I die.
04:34 - So what I'm like, is I'm very quiet in the morning.
04:37 - Good to know.
04:38 - Like, like early, early.
04:39 Like I'm just,
04:41 and then when I'm ready to talk, I'll talk.
04:43 (upbeat music)
04:45 (upbeat music)
04:48 - It is three o'clock in the morning.
04:53 - Yeah.
04:54 - Megan's been up since like two.
04:57 - I can't sleep.
04:58 I just ate some gummy bears while I was laying in bed
05:00 and lay dead.
05:02 So, it's time to reel in some big boys and girls.
05:07 (upbeat music)
05:10 - Good morning.
05:14 - Good morning.
05:15 - Good, how are you?
05:16 - Are you ready for this?
05:17 - Oh yeah.
05:18 - Oh yeah.
05:19 - How far are we going off?
05:21 - 70.
05:23 - Nice.
05:24 Plenty of time to take a nap.
05:25 - Yes, it's the best time to take a nap.
05:27 - Good morning.
05:28 - Good morning, how are you?
05:29 - I'm wonderful and I'm excited.
05:31 - There's a button right here.
05:34 It's on the seven second timer.
05:36 There's another button right inside of the door here.
05:38 - Okay.
05:39 - So, it'll close automatic.
05:41 - If you plug in between them, it'll chop you.
05:43 - Yeah, it'll just, hi-ya!
05:45 Right in there.
05:46 (laughing)
05:47 Oh no, you don't have to worry about that.
05:50 - Hope that happens to Megan.
05:51 - Head's first door on the right.
05:53 Just don't shove a bunch of shit in there.
05:55 - So, when you poop, Megan, don't use too much toilet paper.
05:57 - I don't poop.
05:58 - Awesome.
05:59 - All right, well let's get on time.
06:00 Let's get out of here.
06:01 - Woo-hoo!
06:03 - We got 110 miles.
06:05 - 110 miles, okay.
06:07 - 110.
06:08 - Oh, it's beautiful in here.
06:09 - It's a beautiful morning.
06:10 - You're the first one.
06:14 - Of course, that'd be the first job.
06:16 - We're not really going 100 miles, are we?
06:18 - What?
06:19 - Yeah, we are.
06:19 - Why?
06:20 - Because we want to make sure we find some fish.
06:22 - Yeah!
06:24 - That's what we're here for.
06:25 - And this is the last you're gonna hear of us
06:27 for a solid two hours.
06:29 (upbeat music)
06:31 (upbeat music)
06:34 - Sleeping on the boat was actually,
06:48 felt as if I was in my mother's womb.
06:50 We talked about Charles yesterday,
06:52 I'm thinking about all of these documentaries I've watched,
06:54 thinking about getting shark, you know,
06:56 when the shark comes up and eats your fish
06:58 when you reel it up,
06:59 how I would just like jump in
07:00 and fight the shark back for my fish.
07:02 Honestly, I don't even know what's under there.
07:04 I'm just so excited.
07:05 (upbeat music)
07:08 - Is that a very large glizzy?
07:13 Is that a large glizzy?
07:14 - Extra large glizzy.
07:15 Teaser.
07:18 Over the head,
07:20 around the gills.
07:23 Take your copper wire.
07:24 Go up, through, wrap.
07:28 One, two, you're gonna go through the eyes,
07:32 back around the gill plate,
07:35 through the eyes,
07:37 finishing up on the bill.
07:39 Yeah, give him the wiggle.
07:43 Done.
07:44 Overboard.
07:45 (wind blowing)
07:57 - Hey, 77 and three quarter degrees.
08:01 Nice blue water.
08:02 It's what you want.
08:03 Odds are pretty good, man.
08:05 Odds are pretty good.
08:06 If morale's high, you're gonna have a good day.
08:08 - So true, dad.
08:12 (upbeat music)
08:14 - I see it.
08:21 Woo!
08:24 Come on, Megan.
08:26 - So you can help him out a little bit.
08:28 Like a pencil.
08:29 - Oh yeah.
08:31 I'm a baby.
08:32 - No, you're doing good.
08:32 You're trusting it.
08:34 Lift up slow.
08:35 Yup, nice and slow.
08:38 Crank down.
08:39 - Four, six.
08:41 So sweet.
08:42 So we're gonna tag him.
08:43 What they're doing is just getting him
08:44 as close as they can to the boat.
08:46 Tag him.
08:47 What they said earlier,
08:47 it's really good practice
08:48 for when they're actually gonna gap him
08:49 for the tournament to bring him in the boat.
08:51 It's a great way to know how to handle the marlin.
08:54 And Megan is almost the leader.
08:56 She's definitely a little tight.
08:58 - All right, he's scaping up a little bit now.
09:01 So the line's starting to come up in the water.
09:03 That means the fish is getting closer to the surface.
09:05 Just crank.
09:06 Turn your body.
09:07 Yup.
09:09 You wanna be squared up with the fish.
09:10 There's a double line.
09:11 There's a jump.
09:12 Crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank.
09:14 Right on the side, double line.
09:19 Good job.
09:20 - This is so awesome.
09:21 This is so sick.
09:23 I've never seen a white marlin get caught.
09:25 This is like a bucket list for Megan.
09:27 - Fish!
09:38 No!
09:38 - You tagging him?
09:39 - What a fish.
09:40 - Just like that?
09:41 - That's the hardest thing I've ever done.
09:46 (laughs)
09:48 - That a girl.
09:49 - Let's go.
09:53 - Give me some gear, Cap.
09:54 (cheering)
09:56 - Oh yeah.
09:57 That a girl, Meg.
09:59 Good job.
10:00 - Way to go.
10:01 - Let's get another one.
10:03 - All the coaching was really good in the background too.
10:05 Everybody was coaching you up pretty well.
10:08 Was that a blue or a white?
10:09 Okay, and it was a pretty good white.
10:12 - She did unbelievable.
10:14 - Woo!
10:15 - Look at her veins.
10:16 - I just got a pump going.
10:19 You look good, dude.
10:20 - She's a natural.
10:21 - You get the full experience.
10:22 It jumped a lot for you.
10:23 - It did.
10:24 That was beautiful.
10:25 - And you did a really good job.
10:26 - Thank you.
10:27 For the first time, and hopefully you get a next one
10:32 so your arm can feel a little jello-y too.
10:34 - Yeah.
10:35 - And then I'll get back on.
10:36 - Yeah, it definitely makes me want to take a break
10:36 and be like, okay, cool.
10:38 Now everybody else gets to do it now.
10:40 - Yeah, 'cause it was like,
10:42 it was that last couple of cranks.
10:44 I'm just like, you really are just fighting back.
10:46 Like, it's trying to stay alive, and I respect that.
10:49 But like, nah, bro.
10:51 Not today.
10:51 - Do you feel like it helped when you learned
10:52 how to like pump?
10:54 - Yeah, I think once you got that rhythm too,
10:56 and like the adrenaline was still like,
10:58 I think the adrenaline plays a humongous part.
11:00 - In order for us to get another bite,
11:02 we're gonna have to do a little sacrifice to the fish gods.
11:06 What we're about to perform here
11:08 is called the legendary Dunkaroo.
11:11 What we're gonna do is,
11:14 this bucket here is full of water and ice.
11:17 We're gonna get a high noon out of the cooler.
11:20 You're gonna go head in the bucket, 10 seconds.
11:23 Who's first?
11:24 - Megan.
11:25 - Take a buddy.
11:26 (laughing)
11:27 - Why me?
11:28 - One, two, three, dunk!
11:31 One, two, three,
11:33 10.
11:35 (cheering)
11:38 (upbeat music)
11:40 Yeah!
11:42 - Yeah, Megan!
11:46 - That is a blue marlin bush light.
11:48 Here he comes, boys.
11:50 (cheering)
11:52 - Yeah, Megan!
11:55 Now we're gonna catch a marlin.
11:57 Okay.
11:58 - Ready?
11:58 - Dunk?
11:59 - Dunk!
12:00 One, two, eight, nine, 10.
12:03 (cheering)
12:08 Slam it!
12:09 (cheering)
12:15 Come on!
12:19 Nice work!
12:20 (cheering)
12:22 - All right, set, let's go!
12:28 Woo!
12:29 - My daddy took me doing this all the time growing up.
12:35 - Shut up.
12:36 (laughing)
12:37 I should know, my daddy would be
12:38 juking on the side of the boat right now.
12:41 - Shout out, dad.
12:42 Marlin on, looks like it.
12:43 Oh, pretty jump, man!
12:48 (upbeat music)
12:50 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:56 - How's your arm feeling?
13:03 You're stronger than me.
13:05 - Are you hurting?
13:08 How are you feeling?
13:09 What's the state of mind like?
13:10 Let's get this fish in.
13:11 I wanna get this fish in.
13:14 It definitely is a lot.
13:17 He took a lot of line, ran, jumped.
13:20 I'm only gonna see him do a couple jumps
13:22 so it's more focused on the line.
13:23 Seeing that leader is always a good thing.
13:25 - Slam it!
13:30 - Wow!
13:32 - Nice.
13:34 - Nice fish, dude!
13:37 - Woo!
13:37 Here we go!
13:40 Look at that beauty!
13:46 - A little dance.
13:47 Nice!
13:51 Oh my gosh.
14:05 This is badass.
14:06 Here we go, we're getting ready to tag him.
14:15 (cheering)
14:17 - Oh no, no, no, no, no.
14:28 We're swimming.
14:30 - Yeah, they're forcing us to jump in
14:32 'cause they said it's bad luck if you don't.
14:34 - So jump in and then turn around
14:36 and we'll take a picture in the water.
14:37 - It's awkward as fuck.
14:39 (cheering)
14:42 (cheering)
14:45 All right, now we need fruit trusting.
