Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, two brothers accused of committing financial fraud worth more than Rs 30,000 crore, have been observed enjoying a life of luxury within the confines of Taloja Central Jail, located on the outskirts of Mumbai. The Wadhawan brothers, former promoters of the now-defunct Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited, were apprehended for their involvement in alleged fraudulent activities targeting a group of banks.

However, the media has captured instances where the Wadhawan brothers have organized various outings, claiming them to be medical check-ups at public hospitals in Mumbai. These conspicuous occurrences strongly suggest that the Wadhawan brothers are living a life that starkly contrasts with the typical prison environment.

Once prominent figures in Mumbai's business circles, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan were witnessed deeply engrossed in discussions related to family and business matters within the parking areas of different Mumbai hospitals. Their actions encompass sharing meals, enjoying coffee, utilizing mobile devices, and tending to paperwork, all transpiring within the hospital parking premises under the supervision of police, ostensibly for medical reasons.

The Wadhawan brothers are central to a criminal conspiracy case and stand accused of defrauding a consortium of 17 banks for a sum of Rs 34,610 crore. Multiple agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, are investigating the case.

Investigations carried out by India Today TV have divulged the peculiar nature of their outings. On August 7, Kapil Wadhawan left Taloja Prison for KEM Hospital in Mumbai, ostensibly for a mandatory medical examination. There, he convened in the hospital's parking area, meeting with family members and associates and even accessing his personal car.

Following suit, two days later, Dheeraj Wadhawan replicated the identical routine, departing Taloja Prison for JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a comparable 'health check-up'. This seemingly indulgent scenario is facilitated by the presence of police escorts for the Wadhawan brothers, who are also observed being offered refreshments.

In July, Dheeraj Wadhawan's request for interim medical bail was denied by a special court. However, he was granted treatment for a cardiac condition at a private hospital. During this period, the prosecution opposed his bail application, referencing a previous incident in 2021 where he allegedly exploited his bail to sell paintings.

In 2020, the Wadhawan brothers encountered legal issues when they violated the nationwide pandemic lockdown by traveling with a group of 20 people from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar.

00:00 You see, the essence of democracy, the essence of good governance, the essence of fair governance
00:11 is when law and order are equal for everybody.
00:16 This is how it is.
00:17 Whether you are rich, whether you are poor, whether you are powerful, whether you are
00:23 not, whether you are part of the ruling party, whether you are not part of the ruling party.
00:29 Law and order should be the same for everybody.
00:34 This is the basic essence of good governance and democracy.
00:38 You see, baaki sab toh theek hai.
00:41 You know, discrepancy in income, you know, wedge between the rich and the poor, ye sab
00:46 theek hai.
00:47 These are wrong, these are bad, but law and order should be the same for everybody.
00:52 This is basically what the essence is.
00:56 You see, what really happens is when you see that a person with power, a person with money
01:03 and a person with influence treated differently to an ordinary person who has neither got
01:09 power nor money nor influence, if they are treated differently by law and order, and
01:15 when I say law and order, I mean judiciary, I mean the police, I mean the government,
01:22 the governance.
01:23 When they treat them differently, then there is nothing of democracy left.
01:30 There is nothing of governance left.
01:33 Then whatever else is just there.
01:36 There is, you know, the essence is gone, is what I wanted to say.
01:41 Now I am going to tell you a story of Kapil and Dheeraj Vadavan.
01:45 Kapil and Dheeraj Vadavan are two brothers who were accused of committing financial fraud
01:49 for more than 30,000 crores.
01:52 They have been actually living a very luxurious life according to a sting operation conducted
01:58 by India TV.
01:59 A camera of India TV shot them sitting in a parking lot of a hospital and enjoying,
02:06 they are sipping their coffee and eating their whatever food was got for them and talking
02:12 over the phone, discussing their family business.
02:15 30,000 crore fraud.
02:18 They are supposed to be in Taloja jail, but they were in the parking lot of a hospital.
02:23 Now to give a little more detail about Mr. Kapil and Dheeraj Vadavan, you see, they had
02:31 defrauded a consortium of 17 banks to the tune of 34,610 crores.
02:38 The case is being investigated by several agencies, including Central Bureau of Investigation,
02:42 Enforcement Directorate, so on and so forth.
02:44 Now this visual that you are seeing is basically you are seeing that of India TV.
02:50 Now in this visual, you will notice that they are outside in a parking lot and this is KEM's
02:54 parking lot and let me tell you, on 7th of August, Kapil Vadavan left Taloja prison for
03:00 KEM hospital in Mumbai, ostensibly for a mandatory medical examination.
03:06 There he was visiting hospital parking lot where he met family members and associates
03:11 and also access to private cars.
03:14 So he actually went for medical checkup and during the medical checkup and while he went
03:21 to the medical checkup, he could walk around in the parking lot, he could sit in private
03:26 cars, he could sip coffee, he could eat food and he could meet his family members and everything
03:31 was fine and his people, the cops who were supposed to manage him, who were supposed
03:36 to look after him, who were supposed to ensure that he doesn't move, were actually seen very
03:41 much with him.
03:42 No problem.
03:43 Sipping coffee, absolutely fine.
03:47 Now I will give you, on 7th July, Dheeraj Vadavan was denied interim medical bail by
03:51 special court but was allowed treatment of heart condition at a private hospital.
03:56 During this time, the prosecution opposed this bail plea, citing that previous instance
04:00 where he was allegedly misused the bail to sell paintings in 2021.
04:04 Now, the thing is, this is kind of a serial thing.
04:09 Earlier on, he had applied for bail for citing heart condition and the prosecution had opposed
04:16 that bail.
04:17 They had opposed that bail saying that he had gone and sold paintings while he was on
04:23 bail.
04:24 So, you know, what bail are we talking about here?
04:27 So it is not something new.
04:28 It is not that the police didn't know.
04:30 It is not that everybody was caught by surprise.
04:32 He used to do this before and he continues to do it.
04:35 Now, there is another interesting story.
04:37 See, in 2020, if you remember, during the lockdown, there was restriction in travel.
04:43 Now, during that time, there was a Yes Bank scrutiny against these Vadavans.
04:49 So Vadavans with 20 people, 20 people of his family, they travelled from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar.
04:56 And you know, a level of Principal Secretary, Maharashtra Government, Ministry of Home,
05:04 Mr. Amitabh Gupta then had given a letter saying that, you know, please allow them to
05:08 travel.
05:09 It was on his letter.
05:10 And there was a furor in 2020.
05:13 Furor against Amitabh Gupta.
05:15 Uddhav Thackeray blamed Devendra Padnavis.
05:18 Devendra Padnavis said, "Minister kon hai?
05:21 Chief Minister kon hai?
05:23 Tum hai?
05:24 What are you blaming me for?"
05:25 So that was a huge blame game going on in 2020.
05:28 So the point that I am trying to make is, Devendra Padnavis then had created a lot of
05:33 noise.
05:34 Didn't he, because he is the Home Minister too, didn't he realize that this is what is
05:39 happening?
05:40 See, Vadavan is not a small man that, you know, kya hota hai, nahi malum hota hai.
05:45 He is not a small man.
05:46 If some of these things are happening, isn't there intelligence report that goes into the
05:51 DCM's office?
05:53 The DCM plus also the Home Minister's office saying that, "Bhaiya, dekho, aapke raj mein
05:57 kya ho raha hai?"
05:58 Doesn't it happen?
06:00 So that is kind of surprising.
06:02 So this is something that, you know, I wanted to get to your notice.
06:06 See the point is, there are people who have not got trials and who are languishing in
06:13 jail.
06:14 I know this is a very cliched discussion.
06:17 I know that.
06:18 But it's a fact all the same.
06:22 There are people who do not get trials.
06:24 There are people who are treated like worms in the jail because they do not have money
06:32 nor they have influence.
06:35 And if you have money and if you have influence, you can go for your medical checkup and roam
06:41 around in the hospital corridor, sipping coffee and munching snacks with your family members
06:47 discussing business.
06:49 This is the picture of real India.
06:52 This is what is happening in our state, our cities and our country.
07:00 I want to get, I just wanted to get this to your notice.
07:02 Till I see you next time.
