00:00 The producers that financially backed The Blind Side are speaking out and defending
00:03 the Oscar-winning film against "many mischaracterizations and uninformed opinions that have been made
00:09 in the past 10 days."
00:11 This comes as the film's subject, Michael Orr, alleged the Tui family lied to him about
00:16 being adopted.
00:17 In a lengthy statement sent to People on Thursday afternoon, Alcon Entertainment co-founders
00:21 and COCEOS defended the film's authenticity.
00:25 They clarified that Orr and the four members of the Tui family were collectively paid approximately
00:31 $767,000 in payments delivered through their talent agency for The Blind Side.
00:37 They added that the deal for their life rights was consistent with the marketplace at the
00:41 time for relatively unknown individuals.
00:43 They noted that this is why there were no significant payouts depending on the film's
00:47 success.
00:48 Therefore, the notion that the Tui's were paid millions of dollars by Alcon to the detriment
00:53 of Michael Orr is false.
00:55 Orr alleged in legal filing on August 14 that the Tui's had misrepresented what a conservatorship
01:00 was when they had him agree when he was 18 years old.
01:03 He also claimed that the Tui family collectively received millions of dollars while he received
01:07 nothing for his rights to the film.
01:10 The 2009 movie made $330 million at the box office and has continued to make money in
01:15 the years since.
