00:00 Good morning, welcome to AM Sports with me, Muftahu Nabila Abdoulaye.
00:05 And on September 27, the Ghana Football Association is expected to assemble in Tamale to elect
00:10 new leadership of the football governing body.
00:14 One person who wants to become the president of the Ghana Football Association is George
00:19 Efreye.
00:20 However, Dr. Nyahunya Hotamaklo, a board member of a crowd house of a former chairman of the
00:26 Ghana Football Association, says that George Efreye is not qualified to contest and occupy
00:31 the position of president of the Ghana Football Association.
00:34 You are speaking on Prime Take.
00:36 Well, George Efreye has been there before.
00:41 As vice president, not the leader.
00:47 You have flown before in an aircraft.
00:49 I have, many times.
00:52 In fact, some airlines that fly long routes, not just the co-pilot.
00:58 The longest flight I've had was 18 hours.
01:00 Yes, 18 hours is good.
01:02 At times they have two pilots and a co-pilot.
01:10 When you are not the captain, you are not the captain.
01:15 You are the second in command.
01:20 Anything that the captain will say, you have to listen, no matter how good you are.
01:25 You follow me?
01:27 So I believe strongly that he was a co-pilot during Nkwesi time.
01:38 And when he allowed certain things to take place, some of the blames they are putting
01:42 on Nkwesi now.
01:45 Some of the blames can be put on him for not coming out to talk about it.
01:49 Do you follow me?
01:53 So that in itself, to me, doesn't qualify him now.
01:59 I won't say he is disqualified for life.
02:03 No, it doesn't qualify him now to come to the scene.
02:08 At all.
02:09 Wow, that's quite an interesting one.
02:13 Yeah, it doesn't qualify him to come to the scene.
02:16 But I believe strongly, if he rather teams up with the present leadership and they work
02:24 in unison, it will be good for the country and for football in general.
02:31 But the claims are that the current leadership of the FA is not interested in bringing other
02:36 members into the family.
02:37 And in fact, one of the things people often use against the GFA president was the fact
02:41 that he granted an interview and said that he will never work with his enemies.
02:45 He will not win an election and bring his enemies to come and work.
02:48 So some of the things people actually claim...
02:50 He said that.
02:51 Yes, he said it.
02:52 No, but you know, when you get to power newly, even in politics, you come out with all sorts
03:01 of statements.
03:02 In other words, he has learnt...
03:04 You follow me?
03:05 Yes.
03:06 He has learnt his lesson by now.
03:08 And you see that in his... if he happens to get the next term, he will do things differently.
03:16 ...to this channel tomorrow on the AM show, we'll bring you an extensive conversation
03:22 with the former chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Dr Nyahunya Otomaklok.
03:27 He's our guest on Prime TV.
03:29 Now, let's hear from President Ket Okreku.
03:32 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
03:39 in the country.
03:40 Many people actually say one of the cancers that has affected Ghana football is poor refereeing.
03:47 And he says his administration is putting everything in place to ensure that refereeing
03:51 in the upcoming Ghana football season is a success.
03:55 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:02 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:05 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:12 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:15 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:22 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:25 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:32 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:35 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:42 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:45 And he says that there are structures in place that are supposed to help with refereeing
04:51 in the upcoming Ghana football season.
04:53 Going to the new season, the Football Association intends to make weekly payments to all our
05:00 GPL referees.
05:01 Weekly payments.
05:02 Indeed, we would also be providing three sets of uniforms to all our GPL referees going
05:11 into the new season.
05:16 President of the Ghana Football Association, Keto Kriku, speaking.
05:19 Let's go to Europe, and specifically to England.
05:24 Last season, actually, there was a debate about who is the best midfielder in the competition.
05:32 It was between Kasimiro of Manchester United and Arsenal's Thomas Apathe.
05:38 Well, Zinchenko, who has played with some of the best midfielders in the competition,
05:43 likes of Fernandinho, Rodri, Thomas Apathe, but Kasimiro says that Thomas Apathe is the
05:50 most underrated midfielder in the English Premier League.
05:54 Who is the best midfielder in your eyes in the Premier League?
05:58 I think Thomas Apathe.
06:01 Really?
06:02 Yes.
06:03 Is he better than Kasimiro for you?
06:05 He is absolutely a world-class player as well, Kasimiro.
06:07 Which we know.
06:08 I don't know what the Champions League say about it, but for me, if you want me to choose
06:11 one, Thomas Apathe.
06:13 Thank you very much.
06:14 I had a debate in my head who is actually the best holder midfielder I ever played with.
06:19 The debate was between Fernandinho, Thomas Apathe, and Rodri, but Thomas Apathe is, I
06:24 don't know.
06:25 Is Rodri better than Apathe?
06:27 Listen, I mean…
06:29 I'm leaving.
06:30 We always left the room.
06:32 I think he's great.
06:33 He's better than Rodri.
06:34 He has everything.
06:36 Rodri is absolutely fit so well for the City system.
06:40 If you take him out, it's a different City.
06:42 He's like the main detail there.
06:44 Because for me, at City, this is the hardest position to play.
06:47 It's the hardest.
06:48 And Rodri suits there so well.
06:51 Quality.
06:52 Quality.
06:53 Overall qualities.
06:54 Honestly.
06:55 Now, let's move on and talk about other stories, specifically in Spain.
07:00 Following the success of the Spanish women's national team, of winning the women's World
07:05 Cup for the first time in the history of the club, the dominant headlines went to the president
07:11 of the association, the person of Luis Rubiales.
07:15 He chose to kiss one of the players on the lips, and this has degenerated into massive,
07:22 massive conversation with people in Spain, asking him to resign from his position as
07:28 president of Spanish football.
07:30 Well, he told the Spanish Football Federation Congress that he was not going to resign from
07:36 his position, and that his commitment to football was unanimous.
07:41 He also insisted that while he has given to Spanish football, he should not be forced
07:45 to step down simply because of a case.
07:48 Well, FIFA decided to step in and suspend him indefinitely, which meant that he would
07:54 have absolutely nothing to do with football again.
07:57 His mother decided to go on hunger strike, and for three days she hadn't eaten.
08:02 She decided to seek refuge in a church.
08:05 Now, she's been taken to hospital because she's not eating.
08:09 The priest says she's become extremely weak and dizzy.
08:13 So, reports have suggested that she's currently in hospital for medical care, after she decided
08:21 that she was not going to eat.
08:23 And the post went on to say that she locked herself in Pastora Church in her hometown
08:30 of Motro, in southern Spain, on Monday to protest the treatment of her son, after he
08:36 was suspended by FIFA for forcibly kissing World Cup player, Yanifa Hermoso, at the final.
08:44 A priest at the church, who identified himself as Father Antonio, told reporters that Bea
08:50 has been taken to the hospital on Wednesday.
08:54 And it went on to say that she became anguished and dizzy and had complained of irregularities
09:03 with her heartbeat, Father Antonio added.
09:07 He said on her son's rebellious had spoken with his mother before he was taken to the
09:13 hospital.
09:15 But before I go, a happy birthday to the daughter of the board chairman of the National Youth
09:21 Authority, Seth Powum.
09:24 The daughter is Wumpine Ruth Powum, and she's celebrating her birthday.
09:30 Her father says, "It is not the duty of a father to love you, but to show you that,
09:37 indeed, you are loved."
09:39 That's a message from the father.
09:41 And he also says, "May whatever you desire in life come to pass."
09:46 And then also a happy birthday to Ivana Chauwe, who is also celebrating her birthday today.
09:53 And that of a former executive council member of the Ghana Football Association, Linia Adi,
09:59 also celebrating her birthday today.
10:00 This is a wrap of AM Sports here with me, Bufatawo Nabila Abdoulaye.
10:04 Thank you.
