00:00 Aside from the Philippines, Malaysia and India are also adding to the new map of China.
00:08 The former 9-line map has now become a 10-line map that covers the entire South China Sea.
00:17 This is brought to you by Ivan Mayrina and JP Soriano.
00:25 From the former 9-line map of China, which now covers the entire South China Sea,
00:31 including the West Philippine Sea,
00:33 the new map of China has now become a 10-line map.
00:38 Our embassy in Beijing confirmed that this is what China is releasing
00:44 in their 2023 version of China Standard Map.
00:48 They put on record their claims over the disputed regions in India.
00:53 They placed on record that Taiwan is part of China.
00:57 Also, that the 9-line continues to be their national boundary.
01:01 But according to the official statement of the Philippine government,
01:05 not many will recognize the 10-line map of China.
01:11 This map was disputed in the 2016 Arbitral Award.
01:15 All of these claims have been overtaken by events.
01:19 What is clear right now is the status quo which is established by the 2016 Arbitral Award.
01:26 Like the Philippines, other countries like Malaysia and India were the first to be calm
01:32 in the 10-line map of China.
01:34 But the Chinese Foreign Ministry insisted that this is a routine practice
01:39 in the establishment of their sovereignty, which is in accordance with the law.
01:45 China said that they should be calm and avoid giving too much importance to the issue.
01:53 These issues were the ones that were intended to be overturned in the Code of Conduct
01:58 in the South China Sea, which has been in violation for almost two decades.
02:01 Next week, it will be one of the priorities that will be discussed
02:05 in the 43 ASEAN summits that will be held by President Bongbong Marcos
02:08 from September 5 to 7 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
02:11 The President will continue to promote a rules-based international order
02:15 including the 92 UNCLOS, especially in the South China Sea.
02:19 The Philippines will continue to uphold and exercise freedom of navigation
02:23 and overflight in the South China Sea in accordance with international law.
02:27 Through ASEAN's support, the Philippines' position is expected to be strengthened
02:31 and other claimant countries will also be included in the territorial dispute in the South China Sea.
02:36 But this is not easy because of their own and sometimes conflicting interests
02:41 of the countries to be discussed.
02:43 Since there are several countries involved here and ASEAN is also involved,
02:47 we have to come up with a compromise on every step of the way.
02:51 The Philippines will push to include the joint statement in the ASEAN summit
02:55 as well as China's actions in the West Philippine Sea.
02:58 But it's hard to say now if this will be resolved
03:01 even though many countries are supporting the position of the Philippines on the issue.
03:04 It will be discussed if the entire Code of Conduct will be legally binding.
03:08 The discussion is already being discussed.
03:10 For GMA Integrated News, Ivan Merino.
03:12 JP Soriano, Nakatuto 24 Horas.
