WATCH: Peter and Dean Brus win pistol world championship titles
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, we both represent Australia on the WA-5200PBC Australian team.
00:05 We travelled over to Stockholm, Sweden for the World Championships.
00:10 They're a bi-annual event.
00:12 They skipped a year due to COVID, so Pete was the revolver world champion
00:19 when Australia hosted the World Championships in 2019.
00:23 So he held that title for an extended period of time due to COVID.
00:26 That's probably the only good thing that came into COVID, I suppose.
00:30 It was a really terrific time.
00:32 I go there as a competitor and Pete's coach and obviously his dad as well.
00:37 And yeah, it's just a really special time.
00:40 Conditioning ourselves as best as possible,
00:44 majorly mentally more than anything.
00:47 So yeah, it was always on my mind coming into Stockholm
00:50 for the last couple of years.
00:52 And being the revolver world champion and the service four-inch revolver
00:58 world champion for an extended period of time definitely plays a little role.
01:02 So I went into these World Championships with a little bit of baggage on my shoulders.
01:06 So yeah, just dealing with different emotions coming into these Worlds
01:11 is definitely a new experience.
01:20 You try and make it as personal as you can,
01:25 but I have little mechanisms of myself.
01:29 I'll turn around and maybe look at someone to give me a nod of approval
01:34 or whether I start up a conversation with someone
01:38 just to try and bring my concentration levels down a little bit.
01:42 But there's no doubt once the muffs are on and the timer's sound,
01:48 it's just 100% your own personal world.
01:52 Well, Pete's been tagging along in the shooting family ever since he was in diapers.
01:58 He started shooting when he was 12 years old, which is the legal age in New South Wales.
02:01 So yeah, I've been on the Australian team, on and off the team since 2007.
02:08 Pete's been chugging along ever since he could shoot.
02:11 And then you made the team six years ago, I think.
02:15 Yeah, six, seven years ago now.
02:16 Yeah, so at the highest level, six or seven years.
02:20 We've been on the New South Wales State team for a number of years now, well over a decade.
02:25 So yeah, we've still got a fair bit of experience shooting at that top end.
