00:00 In the ongoing price cut in rice, retailers have only two options.
00:04 Sell the rice or stop selling.
00:09 Here is the first live news of Darlene Kai.
00:12 Darlene.
00:14 No one can sell a regular meal dry of P41 per kilo to the rice we have harvested that is already open here in Trabajo Market in Manila.
00:27 There are those who can sell P45 well-milled rice, but they are already in loss.
00:33 John Ray can't do anything if he won't sell P45 per kilo of well-milled rice even if he is already in loss.
00:43 This is the list of price list from his supplier.
00:47 Based on this, he bought a basket of well-milled rice for P2,170.
00:52 This means that the total is P43.40.
00:57 That's why there is no rice to be grown and it's a loss if he will sell P45.
01:01 They still have expenses in their place, delivery, plastic and other things.
01:06 It's hard for the retailers because there are only a few rice farmers here.
01:13 We need to follow the government's order.
01:17 Based on Executive Order No. 39 of President Bongbong Marcos, the price ceiling for regular and well-milled rice will be implemented.
01:25 But we haven't gotten the regular and well-milled P41 yet, ma'am.
01:30 This is P45 per kilo of well-milled rice.
01:33 It's yellower, more crushed and has a different smell compared to other types of rice.
01:38 That's why other farmers like Margie don't buy it.
01:42 We want to buy it but the color is different. It's like brown, like it's old.
01:51 The customer needs it.
01:53 The rice here is good.
01:56 And the smell is like that.
01:59 Some rice retailers like Amie can't sell P41 to P45 per kilo of rice.
02:08 Only the better types of rice are what her customers want.
02:13 P45 is only available for P1,125 per kilo.
02:20 The best is for P13.
02:23 How can we sell it at that price?
02:28 That's why if the price cap is to be implemented, she won't be the first to sell rice.
02:35 That's why we said, "What can we do?" I'll drop the price because it's too high.
02:41 I'll remove the rice first.
02:43 This is one of the calls of the people we talked to who sell rice here in the labor market.
02:48 If that's what will happen, it's better to get it back.
02:52 So we can get it back to the market because the rice is really bad.
03:04 Igan, the rice retailers I talked to said that they are ready to follow the price cap that the government imposed.
03:12 However, because the price of rice is too high, they can't do anything if the selling doesn't stop if the policy and system continues.
03:24 That is the first news here in Manila. I'm Darlene Cai for GMA Integrated News.
