01:16 They are so happy in this situation but they admit that the place is not safe, especially for their three children.
01:23 Sometimes it is hot and humid. There are clouds.
01:27 Sometimes, they have to sleep for a long time because it is hot and humid.
01:34 They even have a problem with the clean water in their place.
01:38 They drink vinegar. They have an infection with blood.
01:47 They have bacteria that can cause the blood to be contaminated.
01:52 And because of the garbage and smoke coming from the big cars, even Mang Rinaldo is sick.
02:02 I smell bad odors from my nose. Sometimes, I put perfume on my nose.
02:11 That is why their 10-year-old son, Rica, is begging them.
02:17 You will have a beautiful family.
02:21 What?
02:22 You will have a family.
02:24 I want to live a good life.
02:27 A good life.
02:29 Mang Rinaldo has four children.
02:32 His family has a problem with the storm.
02:36 Because their house is built on the sea, the water enters the house and the water is strong.
02:45 The house is damaged.
02:49 The house is damaged.
02:51 The house is damaged.
02:59 They are on the side of the sea and on the side of the road.
03:06 The road is being used by trucks to go to Pierre.
03:10 The pollution of smoke and wind is making our people suffer.
03:16 This is how difficult their situation is.
03:19 In the study of the United Nations Children's Fund or UNICEF,
03:23 millions of Filipino children are exposed to different kinds of weather or climate change,
03:30 such as floods, storms, and heat waves.
03:34 They are the children who have no idea about the dangers of climate change.
03:39 The Climate Change Commission agrees with the UNICEF study.
03:47 The children who are 14 years old and below are the most exposed to climate change.
03:52 First of all, we are all exposed to climate change.
03:55 It is important that there is a special program for them because they need special things.
04:02 And because they are a vulnerable group, they need different attacks and support.
04:12 Because the children are dependent on the adults, it is important for them to understand what is happening around them,
04:20 including the changing weather.
04:23 If you are 2 to 3 years old, you don't know anything about it.
04:27 You depend on your parents, your siblings, and your family.
04:32 So it is important that at the barangay level,
04:35 the people in our community know and have the capacity to understand the dangers of climate change.
04:45 The group Save the Children will find out if they can't handle it.
04:50 Climate projections of children born today compared to people born in the 1960s,
04:56 our grandparents or even some of our parents,
05:00 they would experience a lot more heatwaves, around 4.9 more heatwaves,
05:06 2.3 times more droughts, and 1.9 times more strong typhoons.
05:15 The barangay admits that many children are sick in their area, especially with the changing weather.
05:24 Once it gets hot and it starts raining, many children get sick, especially in the depressed areas.
05:34 First of all, those who swim in the sea, those who are dirty, are the first to be affected.
05:42 They are also doing some programs to reduce the dangers of climate change.
05:50 Like the regular coastal cleanup, deck clogging of the canals to avoid flooding.
05:56 And to have clean water, the barangay put water pipes so that they can stop.
06:01 Some families have already been relocated.
06:04 Just last month, we relocated to Naik, which is in 300 families.
06:11 But no matter where the relocation is, the danger of climate change,
06:16 we cannot avoid it or do nothing to prevent it.
06:21 Not all of us are yet to be affected.
06:23 Each of us has someone who can help, no matter how small, especially the children.
06:32 For JMA Integrated News, I'm Anzuel Periquera.
