The Closed Shop pub is reopening at Commonside, Crookes, Sheffield, months after closing.
Transcript
00:00 I'm just talking to Sophie Bailey who is the new landlady at the closed shop pub in Walkley.
00:08 Sophie, tell me please about your plans for reopening the pub.
00:12 So the pub reopens on Friday, this Friday the 8th.
00:16 It's reopening with 8 beer lines, 6 cast lines, 22 cocktails.
00:22 Some of the old staff are returning from the area.
00:26 And then we're really hoping to get food mid-October back open for the kitchen.
00:32 And you've got a bit of history with this pub as well haven't you?
00:36 What's your connection previously?
00:38 So I ran this pub as GM for a brewery from 2019 to 2022.
00:44 So when it came up for lease it was a no-brainer to take the lease on and get the pub back and get it back up and running.
00:50 It's really important in the local community.
00:52 Everyone loves this pub, everyone's been dying for it to get back open.
00:56 So it was a really important project for us to get it reopened, get the community back in and just enjoy having everyone back.
01:04 And is it a pub that means a lot to you?
01:06 Yeah, I've loved this pub since before I worked here. I will love this pub forever.
01:11 That's why it's so close to my heart and why we've put so much thought into the opening and the decor.
01:17 And just making it the place that it was before and make it a nice place again.
01:23 How pleased are you to see the close shop reopening in Warquick?
01:27 Pretty thrilled. I think it was looking a mess, just kind of ruining the sort of nice energy of the area.
01:34 It's nice to see how quickly it's been turned around and it just looks like it's going to be a nice place to be in again.
01:40 And is it a popular pub with the locals?
01:42 Yeah, definitely. I think it's pretty well renowned for its Sunday roast. It'll be good when they've got some food back on and stuff like that.
01:48 Do you both think it's looking good?
01:50 Yeah, I think it looks amazing. The amount of work that's been put into it.
01:53 It's really gone from zero to hero in a very short amount of time.
01:58 And it's great having, even you would think it would be difficult with the pub just across the road from Hallamshire House, but actually it brings nothing but benefits.
02:08 It's more of a larger pub, two teams working together, bringing in more locals and students.
