00:00 And there's another reason to look forward to this week.
00:03 We should be looking forward to a special documentary
00:07 by the GMA Public Affairs.
00:08 Our guest is Jessica So,
00:11 with Emil Sumangil and John Consulta.
00:14 It's about the dark world of human trafficking,
00:17 the secret slaves.
00:18 That's our story that should be...
00:21 - You know. - You know.
00:23 The world of online,
00:26 not only the root of corruption,
00:29 but also the path to another kind of human trafficking.
00:34 Victims who dreamed of a better life in other countries,
00:39 but in the end, they were abused and hurt.
00:42 In this video,
00:47 you'll see the cans that were thrown at a man's body
00:51 and a transgender Filipino.
00:58 These videos were taken in a place
01:03 in Myanmar, or Burma.
01:07 You hit me in the back.
01:14 I talked to the two victims in the video.
01:17 Let's change their names to Ray and Isabel.
01:22 November 2022,
01:24 Isabel saw on a social media platform
01:28 that they were looking for a customer service representative
01:31 or call center agent in Thailand.
01:34 How did you get recruited in this kind of job?
01:38 On other social media platforms,
01:40 there's a customer service hiring.
01:43 I gave them my name and contact number.
01:46 After 30 minutes to an hour,
01:49 someone contacted me.
01:51 The total salary is $1,000 or P55,000.
01:57 Without further ado,
01:58 December 8, 2022,
02:00 Isabel flew to Bangkok, Thailand.
02:04 Just two days later,
02:06 Ray also flew.
02:08 Isabel arrived at a place with many buildings.
02:16 That's what's called a "scam city"
02:20 where various types of scam operations
02:25 or "pambubudol" are carried out.
02:28 The buildings look almost identical.
02:31 That's when some demonoid Chinese nationals
02:36 confronted them with the real job they got.
02:39 Not as call center agents,
02:42 but as scammers.
02:46 I said I didn't want to work.
02:48 They said, "This is Myanmar.
02:50 We can kill you."
02:52 Every team has a quota.
02:54 If they miss the quota,
02:57 they'll be punished.
03:02 But the most dangerous thing is the torture.
03:06 In this video,
03:07 you can see a woman being tortured.
03:10 Later,
03:12 she was beaten repeatedly
03:14 by a man inside a room.
03:18 Other victims were also beaten with sticks or harnesses.
03:22 The most dangerous thing is there was also a power outage.
03:27 They beat me,
03:29 kicked me,
03:30 whatever they beat me with.
03:32 Keyboard,
03:33 wood,
03:34 steel.
03:35 They thought that by that time,
03:39 they were done.
03:41 It was mind-boggling
03:43 when you entered.
03:45 What were you thinking while all of this was happening?
03:48 To be honest, I was just thankful that I was alive.
03:51 Because I thought I wouldn't be alive.
03:53 Until July 1,
03:55 they were allowed to leave the Scam City.
03:59 And on July 7,
04:01 they were finally allowed to return to the Philippines.
04:05 Isabella Trei said
04:07 that there were still many Filipinos
04:08 who remained as hostages
04:12 in the Scam City during that time.
04:14 What will our team encounter
04:17 on the border of Thailand and Myanmar?
