The Google Pixel Fold is seriously expensive at $1,799, but it offers the thinnest design in a foldable, powerful cameras and a front display you'll want to use. We go hands on with the Pixel Fold at Google I/O 2023, here are first impressions of the device.

00:00 We're here at Google I/O looking at the Google Pixel Fold, Google's first foldable phone,
00:06 and it's available for pre-order right now.
00:08 Let's go take our first look.
00:09 The one thing you're going to notice right off the bat is that the front display is wider
00:21 than what you'll find on the Galaxy Z Fold.
00:23 It's a little bit smaller.
00:24 It's 5.8 inches versus 6.2.
00:27 When it comes to things like typing, it feels more natural, and I actually prefer this wider
00:32 aspect ratio.
00:33 With the Z Fold, it's a little more claustrophobic.
00:36 So to get the most out of the large 7.6 inch display, there is a split screen mode on the
00:41 Pixel Fold.
00:42 I'm in my gallery on the right here, messages app on the left.
00:45 I just open the photo, I click and hold, I bring it over, I drag it in, and you see that
00:50 it's ready to send.
00:52 The other thing you really need to know about the Pixel Fold's design is that they say it's
00:56 the thinnest foldable on the market at 0.2 inches.
01:00 When it comes to the bezels, they're a little bit on the thick side, and the crease is definitely
01:04 noticeable here, but the hinge itself feels really solid.
01:08 I like the fact that when you fold the phone closed, it's actually pretty flat.
01:13 You're not seeing any seams or gaps where stuff can get in, and it is IPX8 water resistant.
01:20 So one of the benefits of the Pixel Fold is that Google is working with third-party developers
01:23 to optimize their apps, especially for the tabletop mode.
01:27 So in this case, you just fold the device, you'll see that the video goes up here, you
01:32 have other information down on the bottom of the screen.
01:34 If I go to place this down, I could still be following the workout without having to
01:38 worry about my device falling down.
01:41 Right now we're testing out the cameras on the Pixel Fold, and it has a main sensor that's
01:45 48 megapixels, but we also have the option of zooming in because it has a 5x zoom as
01:52 well, and get in much more closely if I want to, or more closely than she wants.
01:57 But the idea is that you can go in 5x.
02:03 Overall I'm impressed with the Google Pixel Fold so far.
02:05 I like the wide front display, how thin this device is.
02:09 Really excited to see how good the cameras are, but we're going to have to see if it's
02:11 worth that $1799, especially when it comes to battery life, and I'm also a little bit
02:16 worried about the crease and the bezels.
02:18 Stay tuned for our full review of the Pixel Fold, and be sure to follow us @tomsguide

02:23 I'm Mark Spunower, and I'll see you in the next video.
02:25 Thank you and enjoy the rest of Iowa.
