00:00 Thanks to YouTube's The Backyard Scientists,
00:02 we may never run out of crazy things
00:04 to do with a watermelon.
00:05 In their latest video, they show us
00:06 what it's like when you put 20,000 volts of electricity
00:10 into one.
00:10 This is a cool thing.
00:12 These guys go do these science experiments in their backyard.
00:15 They're DIY.
00:16 They're just like building stuff.
00:17 They're just smart, like nerds that wanted to blow stuff up,
00:20 do a bunch of weird stuff.
00:21 So they did it.
00:22 It's cool.
00:22 They start with a bunch of really nerdy stuff
00:24 that goes right over my head.
00:25 You've probably heard about a capacitor
00:27 before because they are literally everywhere.
00:29 I'm not smart enough to understand.
00:31 Talking about capacitors, 1,000 joules of electricity.
00:34 Say it won't stop your heart, it'll explode it.
00:37 Then just a little teaser, they drop a little wiener on it.
00:40 Time to bring in the big guns, the giant capacitor,
00:43 the big generator capable of emitting 20,000 volts.
00:46 Hook it up to a watermelon.
00:48 Here's what happens.
00:49 OK, that worked way better than we thought it would work.
00:52 And that watermelon was completely destroyed.
00:54 The insides of the watermelon, mush, destroyed.
00:57 And here's what it would look like if flesh touched it.
01:00 This is clearly getting some attention.
01:02 People are very excited about this.
01:04 Young kids are looking at these videos and they go,
01:06 oh, I want to do that.
01:07 Let's see what they have to say.
01:09 Isaac Kirk said, this kind of stuff
01:11 makes me excited to be an electrical engineering student.
01:13 Good for you, dude.
01:14 And Mike Bussey said, I'm glad you aren't my kid.
01:17 I'd be a nervous wreck.
01:19 Mike, relax.
01:20 He's a smart, nerdy guy.
01:22 He knows what he's doing.
01:23 Mike, chill out.
01:26 Classic dad status.
01:27 So this isn't the only thing they've
01:29 done with a watermelon.
01:30 No.
01:31 They hollowed one out, poured some molten aluminum
01:33 inside of it.
01:33 Thought it was going to explode.
01:34 It didn't.
01:35 People are talking about it.
01:36 What do they have to say?
01:37 Leah Isaiah had a suggestion.
01:40 Pour molten aluminum into coconut.
01:43 I think it's co-- is it coco-nut?
01:44 Coconut.
01:45 You know what she's talking about.
01:46 Do it.
01:47 Andrew Johnson said, finally, water-malonium.
01:50 All right, big question time.
01:51 How would you try to explode a watermelon?
01:53 Your craziest fantasies.
01:54 What would you do?
01:55 You have all the tools at your disposal in your imagination.
