00:00 This year's Darwin Street Art Festival has a few firsts.
00:11 There's the first mural that features Auslan symbols, communicating in a way the artist
00:15 knows best.
00:17 My first language is Auslan, so it's not English.
00:22 And here I want to show my thinking and bring my mind out for you all to see.
00:28 And you can see what's going on in my thoughts.
00:31 His artwork's resonating with other members of the deaf community too.
00:34 I didn't expect to meet that many deaf people here.
00:37 It's been great.
00:38 So they come to see the art.
00:40 People have been curious and then they're looking at their own hands in an interesting
00:45 way thinking, "Oh, maybe I can use my hands to sign as well."
00:48 In another festival first, Maxi is using UV paint that will light up in the dark.
00:53 It has two elements to it.
00:55 So there's this daytime image and then using glow paint there will be a nighttime image
01:00 that's slightly different and it's the kids' imagination of what they're playing with.
01:06 So the fish becomes alive.
01:08 The festival artists heralding from far and wide.
01:11 Mayonnaise has travelled up from the street art capital of the country, Melbourne, to
01:15 leave his own personal touch up north.
01:18 The amount of graffiti in Darwin was so...
01:21 I was blown away because I didn't think there was going to be that many people interested
01:25 in painting, especially people from the community.
01:27 So maybe not commissioned walls, just walls that people paint for fun.
01:32 While others let Darwin influence their work.
01:35 Like Mary's mural, which features territory iconography.
01:38 For the locals you've got things like the Million Dollar Barrel, Paul's Iced Coffee
01:43 and a few others.
01:45 And for some of the tourists, the big crocodile is always a big standing out point.
01:50 Every artwork has a QR code that leads to more information about the artist and an app
01:55 shows you where you can find murals around town.
01:59 Festival organisers say they want to fill every street with artwork and they're already
02:03 well on their way.
