00:00 amongst your teammates, you think?
00:00 I mean, did everybody kind of get it?
00:02 >> Yeah, you did, I'm sorry.
00:04 But everybody really understood, and a lot of guys came back that were
00:09 around that game, and they have a true understanding, this game matters.
00:15 And it's gonna be big, it's gonna be exciting, well,
00:18 preparing, don't say exciting no more.
00:21 But it's gonna be a great game, I think the guys received it well,
00:25 they understand.
00:27 >> Was that game with how you're talking, I mean,
00:30 was that something you guys talked about in the offseason, the summer?
00:32 Like pointing to that game or being, this reps for that game or whatever,
00:35 this lifts for that, you know what I'm saying?
00:36 >> Not necessarily, we prepared for the offseason,
00:39 we prepared for Central Michigan, that's it.
00:42 And then this week, we're preparing for Richmond.
00:45 This coming week, we're preparing for Washington.
00:47 But for sure, I know in the back of my mind,
00:50 everybody's gonna be trying to attack us as a defensive back group.
00:53 And we just gotta, how can we go against that?
00:58 How can we be a better defense,
01:00 be less defense on the field between us and them?
01:03 >> If we don't talk to you again next week,
01:05 what are you looking forward to with that matchup?
01:07 You know what they do and how explosive they are as a guy in your position.
01:11 I'm sure that's a big game that you're looking forward to in a lot of ways,
01:14 right?
01:15 >> Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to,
01:17 we really haven't got the ball thrown on the steep.
01:19 So we're gonna be prepared and really go and
01:22 get those guys, we had a teammate, Bernard over there now.
01:26 So we play against him, we'll say hi, we'll say hi.
01:30 But we're coming after that every time.
01:34 >> What did Malik talk last week that he said, you get paid to get that ball.
01:39 So I mean, I'm guessing that's gonna be a point of emphasis this week is looking
01:44 for picks cuz he said, he's glad Cal got the pick, but that's his job.
01:50 It's you guys job.
01:52 >> Right, that's completely our job.
01:54 We need to turn the ball over, the more turnovers we have as a defense.
01:58 And if you score on the defense, the percentage of winning the football game
02:02 is so much higher than you would expect, not the way I saw.
02:05 So today, as you can see, the only points they got were from turnovers.
02:10 So that's what it's gonna take.
02:13 >> One of the things as far as I think you guys have done a pretty good job
02:18 as far as deflecting the questions about Washington these first two games.
02:23 Now that you're at that point, what does it mean to you as far as
02:28 the preparation going into next Saturday?
02:30 >> I mean, it means a lot.
02:31 It's another football game, but it's a top team in the country as well.
02:37 And how we're looked at right now is continue to be underdogs.
02:41 So we're gonna go in and attack this game, attack every day of this week to
02:45 the highest standard we can ever put out there, even though we've been doing that
02:50 all these weeks, we just gotta take another step, stack days every day.
02:54 >> Is this a little different though?
02:56 >> It is a little different.
02:57 I mean, for sure we're gonna come out there and hit it hard as possible.
03:00 Gonna be the hardest hitting team on the field.
03:01 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:03 >> Do you keep in touch with Jeremy?
03:06 >> Not really, not really.
03:07 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:09 >> I mean, is this a week that,
03:11 because I know like those guys are close to being in the same position group.
03:16 You guys have to tell them, hey, cut off contact or is it like-
03:19 >> I mean, I shouldn't have to tell them
03:20 that they should know that.
03:21 >> [LAUGH]
03:22 >> We're inspiring football,
03:23 inspiring football by first.
03:25 So, just come at this game like we have something that we need to go get.
03:32 Cuz they feel like they just got it already.
03:36 We're not gonna let that carry through.
03:39 >> I asked Aaron is to the first two quarterbacks you face are more run based.
03:44 Panic obviously got that ability but more of a throw right now.
03:49 How does that, without necessarily knowing the game plan just yet,
03:53 but how do things change when you have to, when it's gonna be on you guys now?
03:58 >> Yeah, that's what I've been telling, saying the same thing,
04:00 like eliminating explosives.
04:02 >> Yeah. >> Keeping everything in front of us and
04:04 communication on each play.
04:07 And if we see something different, we must understand what that play was,
04:10 take it back to the sideline, get the adjustment.
04:12 So we can be successful the next time they try to come out there.
04:15 Especially if they completed 10, 15 yards,
04:18 they're gonna come back to it later in the game.
04:20 So we must be prepared for all that.
04:21 >> Is this an establishment moment for you guys in the secondary?
04:23 >> It is, for sure it is, yeah.
04:25 It for sure is, 131 and 120 in the past couple years of passing yards.
04:31 It's not okay.
04:32 And we wanna be better than that.
04:34 >> I mean, to face a Tyson guy who's, I mean, well before you got here was-
04:38 >> Indiana and all that, so
04:40 I mean, he's a good player.
04:42 Just another football game, another quarterback.
04:43 Gonna prepare like we prepared.
04:45 So, appreciate you.
04:48 >> Talk about training a little bit.
04:50 I guess just being a professional, approaching everything with kinda that,
04:55 not just upper class, but that maturity.
04:58 Talk about, I guess, what that means.
05:00 Obviously, it means what it means in his room, but
05:02 just him on the team.
05:05 >> So, Trey Mosley and I have been together for a while.
05:07 We went to high school together.
05:08 So, he's always been a great leader, guy of great maturity.
05:13 And he's gonna come to practice and set the example every single day.
05:19 And I really take my notes on him and I help myself understand.
05:25 This guy wants it, so I wanna make sure he gets what he wants.
05:29 So, it takes a village, not just one person.
05:32 >> I kinda teased him, I said he got his OG status back today.
05:36 >> Yeah, yeah, catching that ball, looking at the ball there for sure.
05:40 >> Yep, okay, thank you.
05:41 >> Thank you.
05:42 >> Mel likes to talk about Russian coverage, working together.
05:45 Seven sacks for you guys today as a defense.
05:47 Talk about just the way that was, the flow of that today and
05:51 playing behind those guys.
05:52 >> It was fun.
05:54 Not a lot of covering all day long.
05:59 So, really excited for those guys and
06:01 the accomplishment that those guys are doing.
06:04 And great coverage and great rush.
06:08 It was great defense.
06:09 You can't have one or the other, cuz then the ball's not gonna get completed and
06:14 the explosive and it turns around sooner or later.
06:16 So, it's gotta complement your football.
06:19 >> They almost had an explosive today.
06:21 I think you guys sent a linebacker blitz, they hit a little crosser.
06:24 I think it was kinda up to you to keep that thing in the bar a little bit.
06:26 You know what you're talking about?
06:27 >> How did you see that one develop?
06:29 It was in the first half, it was kinda getting out.
06:31 >> I came down one on one tackle.
06:32 >> I think so.
06:33 >> I mean, that was just a missed tackle.
06:36 That's something we just gotta clean up for real.
06:38 Cuz it was definitely, I think it was a linebacker blitz.
06:41 But Kyle was there, still make tackle.
06:43 >> I think you kinda leveraged it all back here.
06:45 Do you remember the play I'm talking about?
06:47 >> Was it with Jello?
06:49 >> You'll get a plus.
06:50 >> If you look at the film, you'll get a plus.
06:51 >> Yeah, yeah.
06:52 >> Sooner or later.
06:52 >> For sure, sorry about that.
06:54 >> It's cool. >> All right, appreciate it.
