00:00 So Garrett, start with, I mean, sort of a ragged start maybe,
00:04 and then all of a sudden you got to stop it,
00:06 you came back and you started hitting again.
00:08 What was the difference?
00:09 Yeah, I think the biggest thing was just me
00:11 getting on page with the wideouts.
00:13 You know, we had a couple of drops early,
00:14 a couple of missed throws, but it all goes back to me.
00:17 I got to get the guys going. I got to get them started faster.
00:20 Really accurate with the deep balls tonight.
00:22 How did it feel coming out of your hands?
00:24 Yeah, I mean, all week, really, even in Penn State,
00:27 I feel like I've been throwing it well.
00:30 You know, and today was kind of the first game
00:33 where we're off the bat.
00:34 I felt comfortable in the pocket.
00:36 So I hope that I can continue that the next week.
00:39 What did you do for two hours?
00:42 I was -- I mean, we were just chopping it up, talking.
00:47 I've never been a part of that in a football game.
00:50 Baseball, a little different, but in football,
00:52 I've never been a part of that.
00:54 How do you -- I mean, stay focused,
00:56 and not get so relaxed?
00:58 Yeah, I think the coach did a great job
01:00 of kind of keeping us focused with the game plan
01:03 and, you know, any additions or subtractions
01:05 that they were taking away from the game plan.
01:06 So I think they did a great job of kind of balancing that out.
01:09 Just as one of the leaders of the team,
01:10 do you in any way kind of agree with what we're talking about?
01:13 It almost feels like you think
01:15 Nathan's a blessing in disguise, in a way.
01:17 Kind of rejuvenated the team a little bit.
01:19 Yeah, I think that, you know, we kind of --
01:22 we kind of didn't have the best start.
01:24 And, you know, for us to come out kind of guns
01:26 a-blazing out of the break, it was nice to see.
01:30 I think we would have done it without a break,
01:32 but it was kind of good to let everybody reset
01:36 and go play our style of football.
01:39 Hudson came through, obviously, great.
01:41 You've seen that in practice.
01:42 Are you wary of throwing to a guy
01:44 who hasn't played a whole lot in games?
01:47 Yeah, Hudson, what did he go for?
01:49 Where's he at?
01:51 Yeah, Hudson's just -- he's just a damn football player.
01:54 You know, he's been making, you know,
01:55 one-handed catches since he first got on campus.
01:58 I couldn't be more happy for the kid.
02:01 You know, he's really busted his butt ever since he got here.
02:05 You know, I'm super happy that, you know,
02:06 he made some plays for me tonight.
02:08 What did you see on the second touchdown pass to him,
02:10 the one from 70 yards out?
02:14 Yeah, they were trying to play a little man with us.
02:19 And, you know, he did a great job running the right route.
02:22 And he got open, and, you know, luckily I put it on him.
02:25 How about the third touchdown, when he's wide open?
02:28 Yeah, we kind of ran a --
02:30 ran like a pump screen out there.
02:32 And they bit hard on the screen.
02:33 Something they showed in film.
02:35 So, you know, that was the easiest one.
02:38 Was there a moment, like, in the locker room
02:40 when you found out he was just going on scholarship?
02:42 Yeah, those -- I think those are probably
02:45 some of the most special moments you have as a team.
02:49 Just seeing how hard he busts his butt, you know,
02:52 all the work he's put in to finally see it,
02:54 you know, get rewarded and, you know,
02:56 for him to finally achieve a lifelong dream,
02:59 you know, is super special to see,
03:00 and I couldn't be more happy for him.
03:02 Coach Browse talked about you improving the layups,
03:04 he calls it, short throws.
03:07 What's that been like, trying to just get those,
03:09 get to 100% on those short and many throws?
03:12 Yeah, I think it's not taking them for granted.
03:15 You know, a five-yard pass really shouldn't be --
03:17 shouldn't be too difficult, but, you know,
03:19 when you get lazy and your mechanics get out of whack,
03:22 you know, they can become difficult throws.
03:24 So I think really just attention to detail
03:27 and focus more, more so than anything.
03:30 I'm sure you know what's coming up,
03:32 not just next week, but the next 10, I guess.
03:34 So are you guys ready for this?
03:36 Do you feel like you're in the right spot?
03:39 Yeah, I think that, you know, if we prepare how we have been,
03:44 you know, I think we're in for a good one on Saturday.
03:47 You know, but it all comes down to me getting the guys going
03:50 and getting the guys started fast on offense.
03:54 Garrett, how are you navigating
03:56 kind of the ins and outs with guys at receiver?
03:58 It seems like you have some guys who are healthy,
03:59 and then they're down, and then guys who aren't out,
04:01 weren't in or out,
04:03 and you're still getting the get-in-to-you phase.
04:06 Yeah, I think a lot of it just goes into preparation,
04:08 you know, whether it's watching film with them,
04:10 going over looks or, you know, staying after practice
04:13 and throwing extra routes to them.
04:15 You know, it's all rhythm and timing thing,
04:18 and, you know, it can be dangerous
04:20 when the widest-referring quarterback
04:21 sees the same thing.
04:23 So that's all I'm trying to do with whoever's out there.
04:25 You guys threw during the break, too?
04:27 Yeah, we were throwing in the weight room,
04:29 which I'm not sure Coach Mike was too happy about,
04:30 but we were letting it fly in there.
04:33 But you guys go wild after that,
04:34 so I'm guessing that was a good break for you.
04:37 Yeah, I think that the coaches and, you know,
04:39 everybody did a great job of responding
04:42 to kind of the adversity
04:43 that not a whole lot of people, you know, deal with.
04:46 So I think we handled it well, and, you know,
04:48 we're on to next week.
04:51 Is there going to be a little added motivation next week
04:54 just knowing how it ended last year?
04:56 Yeah, for sure.
04:58 You know, I'm not from here, but, you know,
05:00 I like to say that, you know, I grew up here.
05:03 You know, I was raised in Tallahassee,
05:04 but, you know, I really grew up in West Virginia,
05:06 became a man up here.
05:07 So, you know, we don't like them, and they don't like us.
05:09 So, you know, we're fired up for it.
05:12 Any lightning delays in Florida ever in football?
05:15 I mean, that would seem common.
05:17 Not in -- I can't remember if it's in football.
05:19 Baseball all the time because 3 o'clock in the summer,
05:22 you know, lightning's coming.
05:24 But football, I can't remember ever.
