West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin has said the Government was 'embarrassed' into nationalising TransPennine Express after being put under major political pressure by Northern mayors.
She was speaking at the Great Northern Conference in Bradford.

00:11 Demolition has been an amazing thing for the North.
00:14 It has really powered our agenda.
00:17 And being able to work collectively, for example, on the failure of TransPennine Express.
00:24 Those of you who have used that service will know.
00:26 Almost 18 months of misery and mayhem.
00:30 People, I use that root, people telling stories about not being able to get home to their kids.
00:37 Moving house because they can't get to work, their office is going to fire them.
00:41 The impact on our economy was substantial.
00:43 I think it was 8 million a week we were losing because of the failures of that train company.
00:49 Collectively, we stood together and I think embarrassed government into listening to us
00:59 and putting TransPennine in public control.
01:02 Now whilst that's not a silver bullet, there is some greater stability.
