Opel Experimental Premiere at IAA Mobility 2023
The Opel Experimental celebrates its debut in front of an international audience in Munich. The sleek silhouette of the Experimental stands out through the addition of exterior lighting and bold contrasting graphics instead of chrome, adding personality and sophistication to the already impressive proportions. The dramatic tapering profile has a bold and pure design with clean surfacing to enhance the efficient battery-electric crossover’s stunning presence. The gliding silhouette of the Opel Experimental is set around very efficient packaging while the concept car also offers clever and optimised aero solutions. Aero-flaps at the front and rear increase aerodynamic efficiency as does the rear end diffusor. It extends or retracts depending on the prevailing driving situation.
At the front, the new illuminated Opel Blitz, which is also celebrating its motor show debut in Munich, sits at the centre of the signature Opel Compass. It is flanked by the elongated wing signature lighting on the horizontal axis while the illuminated centre crease adds a bold statement. This then repeats at the rear with the distinctive compass signature braking light created by edge lighting technology and sophisticated glass transparency. This combines with bold Opel lettering – instead of the Blitz logo at the rear – to form the central element. Around the front compass sits the next generation 4D Opel Vizor.

00:12 And as you've heard already, we have sharpened our new Blitz.
00:16 And on the experimental concept, we illuminate the Blitz
00:20 and proudly position it at the focal point of our new brownface.
00:24 So let's go take a look.
00:26 And as I just mentioned, the Blitz is at the centre of both our horizontal element
00:32 and now the new vertical element, which we call the compass lighting signature.
00:38 And we've inset that compass within the new 4D visor.
00:43 Now that's a combination of beautiful three-dimensional detailing.
00:48 And the 4D element is to really show what we're doing with the collection of sensors.
00:53 So the cameras, the lidars, the radars are all integrated into this visor element here.
01:00 And even the lighting is elegantly integrated within that compass lighting signature.
01:07 And then as we move around to the side of the car,
01:10 you can see these really powerful muscular wheel arches
01:13 and these crisp flattened sections that help almost visually press the car to the ground,
01:19 giving it a very sporty and dynamic stance.
01:23 And then on this vehicle, we've got this gliding silhouette
01:27 that really emphasises the aerodynamic efficiency of the car.
01:31 And we've integrated all sorts of active features in this vehicle to optimise the aerodynamics.
01:39 Another interesting detail that you'll start to see on future Opels is these three-zone wheels.
01:44 And on this car, these flaps adjust again to optimise the aerodynamic performance.
01:52 And then at the rear of the car, we again repeat the compass lighting signature.
01:58 But this time, we use the Opel wordmark in the centre.
02:02 So we have the emblem at the front and the wordmark at the rear.
02:06 And again, this car has this super tapered look again to give it a very powerful stance.
02:14 So overall, the modern, progressive and desirable proportions
02:20 are something that you're going to see on many future Opels.
02:23 And of course, we always design with a modern and responsible mindset to minimise our CO2 footprint.
02:31 And we will use our EV technologies combined with recycled and sustainable materials to drive this further.
02:39 And we call this Greenovation.
02:43 This mindset follows through to the interior where we will bring the Opel Pure experience.
02:50 We want to liberate space and dematerialise our interiors, replacing screens with augmented projection technology.
03:00 And we will paint with light to express emotions and enhance safety through new perspectives.
