00:02 - So Barry, Scotland, it continues to be a great time
00:07 to be a Scotland fan,
00:08 another really strong win over Cyprus.
00:11 And listen, by the time some people watch this podcast,
00:15 depending on the result between Norway and Georgia,
00:18 we could have already booked our place to Germany.
00:20 - Potentially, yeah, Martin.
00:23 I mean, I think so many people are still pinching themselves
00:28 and I'm certainly one of them,
00:29 the way that Scotland team is going
00:31 and the momentum that they've built,
00:32 it's almost unprecedented.
00:34 I just can't remember a Scotland team.
00:36 I remember Scotland teams that were doing well
00:38 and years gone by and getting results
00:40 and a good sequence of wins put together,
00:43 but I just can't remember one with this level of belief
00:46 and confidence going into games
00:49 and one that doesn't seem to be inhibited in any way
00:54 by what's happened in the past.
00:57 The failures of the past doesn't seem to be weighing
00:59 on their shoulders.
01:00 There's not that,
01:01 I don't sense that burden of glorious failure
01:03 that we've seen in many Scotland teams before.
01:05 - Three games remaining.
01:07 So it's Spain away, Georgia away, Norway at home.
01:11 So obviously three very tough fixtures,
01:14 but we only, I think, need a point to qualify.
01:17 What would stand out to my vote?
01:19 I haven't had time to properly check this fact,
01:21 you might know, but I think if we get five points now,
01:24 that would guarantee us top seeding for the finals draw.
01:27 I mean, just saying that.
01:29 - Yeah, just saying that as a Scotland fan sounds bizarre.
01:32 - It does.
01:34 It's like you're in a parallel universe here
01:37 watching this team and saying,
01:38 coming out with comments like that
01:39 and looking at stats tables where we're the top ranked nation
01:42 in the overall ranking in terms of
01:45 to pop one seed for the Euros, it's just crazy.
01:48 But long may it continue because we've suffered,
01:51 all of us have suffered for years watching Scotland,
01:55 praying that we get to a major tournament.
01:56 It hasn't happened.
01:57 It obviously happened a couple of years back,
01:59 getting to the Euros.
02:00 And you just want the momentum to continue.
02:03 I mean, of course, I'm going to have egg in my face here
02:05 when they lose the next three qualifiers
02:06 and miss the Euros and gold difference.
02:08 But even this Scotland,
02:11 I just, given what's happened in the past,
02:13 I can't see the Scotland team failing now.
02:16 I think they're virtually there.
02:18 They know they're virtually there.
02:19 They know they have the ability to get there.
02:21 It's not like they've scraped results.
02:23 They've got every single result that they've had
02:25 in this qualifying campaign.
02:27 They've deserved all five of the victories.
02:30 - I mean, you definitely encapsulated my next point,
02:33 and that's that there's still so many Scotland fans,
02:36 just until it's confirmed,
02:37 no one's booking their flights to Germany.
02:39 No one's, or I mean, to be fair now,
02:42 there are a section of people
02:43 that have already started doing that.
02:44 I think they must be of a slightly younger generation
02:47 that don't remember some of the glorious failures
02:49 of the past.
02:50 But you look at the games and they are tough games,
02:53 but given just how good we've been,
02:56 you just, we're surely there already, aren't we?
02:59 I mean, or do you just feel like you just,
03:01 you can't see it until it's for certain?
03:03 - Yeah, I'm not going to say it.
03:06 It's just too much of a jinx.
03:08 Been here before so many times.
03:10 And just going on what you said there,
03:12 actually a few of my mates are booking things,
03:15 or have booked things already for Germany,
03:18 and they are of my kind of generation.
03:20 I'll leave you to decide whether I'm older generation
03:22 or younger, but these people in their 40s
03:26 have actually gone ahead and booked things now
03:28 to make sure that they get to Germany
03:30 in terms of accommodation and things.
03:31 So clearly people of our age are believing in this team.
03:36 And that's the biggest thing about it,
03:37 because previously you would have held off
03:39 and held off and held off,
03:40 just to make sure that you get that very last couple
03:43 of points that you need to get over the line.
03:45 So yeah, I think the next three games are difficult.
03:50 I mean, the next three games for Scotland alone
03:52 are going to be a massive test
03:53 because you've got a friendly against England
03:55 Tuesday night, you're then away to Spain in a qualifier,
03:58 and then it's another friendly against France.
04:00 So England, Spain, France,
04:02 it's going to be a massive test for any team.
