00:08 David, in all of your years of peace and conflict
00:22 study and teaching, do you think unity is possible?
00:27 Unique.
00:31 Right now, we only have two choices, us or them.
00:34 There's clearly this current social crisis in our society.
00:38 Economic, political, social, it's dividing people
00:41 and people are getting hurt.
00:42 It's extremely dangerous, in many ways,
00:44 growing more dangerous.
00:55 We've been taught that we're much more
00:57 divided than we are united.
01:00 I've always believed that what brings us together
01:03 is stronger than what divides us.

01:10 Well, America has always been a very raucous country.
01:14 I mean, we're an immigrant nation,
01:16 so we've always been a cauldron.
01:19 That is America.
01:23 Art itself is one of the greatest unifiers
01:27 on our planet.
01:28 We thought about the act of people
01:30 signing their message of unity next to each other,
01:33 one after the next, thousands of people
01:35 signing this message on the station wagon.
01:38 By having people sign their names next to each other,
01:41 it is a act of unity to stand next to someone
01:45 of a different political party, of a different race,
01:48 of a different religion.
01:50 This was just two musicians with a car, a guitar,
01:53 and their voices, believing that there was something better
01:56 out in the world, and that we could somehow pull that out
01:59 by showing the ultimate vulnerability of going in a car
02:02 and asking people to sign it, and going from state
02:06 to state with no grand plan other than to bring people
02:10 together in a very divided year.
