00:10 [SOUND]
00:20 >> From where you go?
00:29 >> From inside, from there.
00:31 >> I clean my food also.
00:32 >> Uh-huh.
00:33 >> That's why you see the maintenance.
00:34 >> [LAUGH]
00:36 >> Then my stuff, they are there.
00:38 But I also, you know, when I do that, they say, okay.
00:41 You know, yesterday when I- >> You have a catamaran?
00:43 >> Yeah, I've got it.
00:44 >> Huh?
00:45 >> There's one club around here.
00:46 You know?
00:48 >> JJ.
00:49 >> There's one club around.
00:50 >> Go, go, come here.
00:52 >> JJ, come here.
00:53 >> No, I'm trying to, yeah, go, carry my stuff.
00:55 >> I'll come there.
00:57 >> Sound is catching, no?
01:00 >> He's coming here.
01:01 He's coming here.
01:02 >> But there's one club here.
01:05 All the kids, they're trying to go to that club pool.
01:08 And suddenly, in the evening, I realize they're all up there.
01:11 I say, what happened?
01:12 No, no, no, the pool is not clear, not clean.
01:15 I mean, the water's not very clear.
01:17 So, see the cleanliness, all that.
01:20 It's not just for showing off, you know?
01:22 How is it, you know?
01:23 >> You have a habit of cleaning your own pool?
01:26 >> Not habit.
01:27 Of course, I see that it's not there, you know, anything, you know.
01:31 Also, you feel dirty, you know, something.
01:34 It's got to, you know, you maintain a pool, you have to maintain a pool.
01:38 And water is, you don't maintain the algae and all the things, you know.
01:43 And a lot of infection is from water, that's why it's got to be very, very, you've got to be very careful about it.
01:51 So, we are immune to a lot of things, the kids are not.
01:55 You know, quite.
01:56 >> See, it's clear that the pool is very clean and clear.
01:59 >> Oh, yes.
02:00 Don't you see?
02:01 >> Yeah.
02:06 >> I'm just saying because I sometimes, I see something, I don't have to depend upon that.
02:13 You know, I just have it by myself.
02:15 It's always, you know, when you have time.
02:18 You don't have time, how will you do it?
02:21 >> All the time I used to work in 8th grade.
02:24 >> Now what?
02:25 >> Please help me.
02:28 >> You know, you used to do it through the day.
02:32 And there was no time.
02:33 Obviously, I was totally depending on the staff.
02:37 And now I have some time, I like to utilize for my hobbies and the things which I like to do.
02:46 Like, I have no complains if I scrub my pool and all that.
02:50 I don't have any complains if I cut the leaves and things.
02:54 It's not that only my Mali has to do all this.
02:59 My character, my temperament is very fond of water around me.
03:02 Of course, I like mountains also, but I like water more.
03:06 So, when we are making this new house and frankly speaking, I, from my point of view, since I put on weight, you know,
03:15 I didn't want to go to those health clubs and other things.
03:20 But, all of your life you've been fit and now you suddenly put on weight.
03:26 It's not suddenly, actually, I put on weight because last 7-8 years I've been a little lethargic with my body and system.
03:35 Because I was, the time which I used to devote on my body, I started devoting on other things like movie making and all the departments of movie making.
03:49 Direction, story, dialogues, all these things happen while sitting, you know.
03:55 And all different people come for these sittings and then every time you're offering them to, you know, the tea, coffee, eatables and all that snacks.
04:03 And you're partying with them.
04:05 And by the time your discussions are over, you're so mentally tired, you want to relax.
04:09 So, this pool thing came in and then my family, you know, my kids, they don't, they have not been brought up as like actors' kids and all that.
04:18 In my house you'll see there's nothing expensive kind of a thing.
04:23 All the money people put on chandeliers and other things and since I had the space, I tried to make something which can be used, you know, by us and by kids.
04:35 Now here, you know, Mahesh Bhatt's kids, they come, Danny's kids, they come and then Nina Gupta's kids, they come and one of our friends, Shashi Ranjan, a lot of friends.
04:45 All the Padmini Kolhapuri's kids, you know, they come.
04:48 We fathers may not be meeting that much but the kids are there together, you know.
04:52 And they are free for all, you know.
04:55 And in the hotels, what happens, 6.30, 7 o'clock, they tell the kids to go out, you know, time out for the kids.
05:02 I actually saw it and my wife also along with me, we decided to make a house which is usable, you know, not for show.
05:10 So, this is a, for kids, this is kind of a semi club without the charges attached.
05:14 Don't talk, this is all nonsense, club and all that.
05:17 How are the kids are not concerned?
05:19 Kids don't know what is a club.
05:21 Kids don't know when they go to San and San or holiday and they pay, you know, they don't value, they want something they are enjoying, you know.
05:28 Club is a hate this word kind of a thing, you know.
05:31 If you have a badminton court in your house, but there are a lot of clubs only people are sitting playing cards.
05:37 The club word itself is, you know, clubbing means you're together, you know.
05:43 I think so.
05:44 While you have a lot of things with you, but people these days clubs are connected with drinking, boozing and gambling and showing off kind of thing, which I don't know.
05:57 This is my home, you know.
05:59 This is my home.
06:01 I don't like anybody to call it a club, you know.
06:04 It's like a temple for me.
06:06 In this temple, sometimes I lose temper also.
06:09 Of course, I think pandits and sadhus, they are also human beings, they also lose temper.
06:14 In our mythological films, we have seen the great Rishi Munis giving shrap and, you know, vazham ho ja or, you know, something like that.
06:21 Main tujhe shrap deta hu ja deti hu, you know.
06:24 So, me also, you know.
06:26 And, well, my kids are in front of my eyes and they enjoy and great fun.
06:32 But they go out also.
06:34 It's a monotony for them, you know.
06:39 When you have something at home, you don't like to use it.
06:41 Like with every man, you know.
06:43 They have a good vibe, but still they keep on running here and there and chasing and eyeing at other girls, you know.
06:49 Alright.
06:51 Okay.
06:53 [Sound of rain]
06:55 [Sound of rain]
06:57 [Sound of rain]
07:00 [Sound of rain]
07:02 [Sound of rain]
07:31 [Sound of rain]
07:49 You know.
07:51 [Sound of rain]
08:01 They keep on experimenting, you know.
08:04 Things, how this will look, how that will look, you know.
08:08 I have a problem.
08:09 My mother, you know.
08:11 This is a separate photograph and they didn't have together photograph, you know.
08:15 And I, my father's photograph to match with this.
08:19 So now this photograph is taken in a different lighting, you know.
08:22 This is a different.
08:23 So to make a combined portrait, I am finding a great problem.
08:27 But I am enjoying it till I finish it.
08:30 Now I am slowly coming closer to it.
08:32 My kids come and they tell me, "Papa, Dadadi's face is small, Dadadi's face is big, you know."
08:43 So then we do something else, you know.
08:45 My daughter also paints, you know.
08:54 You know, these days I am not working much, you know.
08:58 When you are free, either you, when you are free, either you have your time in wrong things.
09:07 I like to create.
09:10 I don't care whether it is right or wrong, but I know it is created.
09:16 Something is happening, you know.
09:18 It makes me happy, you know.
09:23 How did the whole thing about painting, you starting painting start?
09:27 No, I have, it's not that.
09:30 It was a hobby, you know, in the beginning when we got nothing else to do.
09:35 "Chalo, bannate hain."
09:36 It was like with pencil, sketch.
09:38 Even when I was making the house, you know, there was a wood, a piece of wood was lying here.
09:42 I found it interesting.
09:43 So carved a statue out of it.
09:46 So I didn't have the instruments, proper carving instruments.
09:50 I used to borrow from the carpenter, of course.
09:53 The guy who was making furniture or other things, yeah.
09:56 So I carved and then I didn't know how to carve the arms and all that.
10:03 So I cut it like Venus, you know.
10:07 So it has shaped itself into something, you know, interesting, you know.
10:12 So this is lying somewhere, you know.
10:15 Since after this, making this house, whole thing is, you know, in, not properly put back.
10:24 So now we'll be organized a little bit.
10:26 It's taken a lot of time to make this house, you know.
10:28 We are not dependent upon any interior designer or some kind of architectural designer.
10:35 Totally.
10:37 But luckily we had this, like I told you, my architect was so nice.
10:41 Whatever we wanted, he sorted it, put in labor, how much steel is required, how much columns is required, how much the other thing is required.
10:47 I was very fond of, in my old house I had this kind of effect.
10:51 You see this?
10:53 So I sorted that, I blended my pool, my jacuzzi, my other things.
10:58 The terrace, I've given a little touch.
11:00 Because, it's not, you know, at that time I was alone.
11:05 Now the kids are there, I have to think of their liking, I have to think of my liking and, you know, it has to be blended.
11:14 You wanted some kind of a connectivity with your old house?
11:17 Sorry?
11:18 You wanted to find a more soothing?
11:19 What, what?
11:20 You wanted some kind of a connectivity with your old house as well, that's why you designed this?
11:24 Old house, you know, when I bought that house, it was a ready-made house.
11:30 You know, I didn't put in much, except the interior and the garden.
11:35 But this is like a baby, you know, it has been born in front of our own eyes, you know.
11:41 The whole thing, you know.
11:43 And luckily I also had some time and I thought I should rather take out time, like when you make a movie and totally involved.
11:53 So, it was there and frankly speaking I was not that rich to even, maybe I would have done, to hire some big artists and big designers and named and all that, you know.
12:03 But I don't have that temperament, you know.
12:07 So, it's like that.
12:09 How many paintings have you painted till now?
12:11 It's like now, after this movie, you know, I did some television and then I'm doing play also, stage play, I've never done in my life.
12:22 So, when I started getting time, you know, so I started, first time actually, these oils, whatever you're seeing, first time, you know.
12:30 And I get some friends also who know painting, how to mix this and how to do.
12:34 First in the beginning I didn't know.
12:36 My daughter gave me a full kit, easel, brushes, paints, she, on my birthday, you know, she's very fond of, she also, this is a small kit, but she has that in, you know, in her.
12:50 Like I, I've never learned, I've never gone to school, or any drawing school rather.
12:55 So, I do it, you know, just.
12:59 If it goes, something wrong with this, I find oil, you'll ask me why you do oils, I say, if something goes wrong, I take the tabi and just wipe it and all that.
13:08 I'll keep on putting coating, you know, you know, anything, you know, you dry it, put some coatings, you know, you don't like it, after drying it, give something else.
13:17 The trained painters, they know, if you apply this color, what is going to happen.
13:21 But I'm experimenting, you know, I don't know, this color's effect would be what.
13:26 So, I keep on experimenting and changing and I don't get bored.
13:30 Maybe some other artist is there, he will get bored, you know.
13:33 You are same, same, same, same, same, you know.
13:36 How many paintings have you done till now, approximately?
13:38 I have done about 8-10 paintings.
13:40 And in my house, I don't want to, and there is my wife.
13:44 She is having, in my house.
13:47 Hi.
13:48 Hi.
13:49 So, what is this?
13:51 I look like a big ghost over here.
13:53 This eye is not fine, this nose is not fine.
13:56 So, when I get into bad, I made one of her paintings.
13:58 When I get in a bad mood, I spoil, you know, make her cheek out or make her neck longer.
14:03 I love this kind of painting and not otherwise in reality.
14:06 What do you feel about this painting?
14:09 Good, it's nice, he keeps himself busy.
14:11 That's more important than doing other things.
14:16 And empty mind is a devil's workshop.
14:19 So, he is doing something.
14:21 Empty mind is devil's workshop.
14:25 So, you haven't stopped him because you feel this is the boundary of keeping him clean and clear.
14:28 No, he has been clean and clear otherwise I have no hassles on that point.
14:32 I was always clean and clear.
14:34 What do you mean by that?
14:35 Even when I was not married to her, I was clean and clear.
14:38 If I had an affair, it was open.
14:41 I was not like other actors hiding their girlfriends in the closets or in the rooms
14:46 and they are not supposed to be in order for their breakfast or lunch or dinner.
14:50 There is nothing wrong in that.
14:52 But till you are there, you know, it's not that having anything hiding and all that, you know.
15:01 What did you feel about his painting of yours?
15:04 When he painted you, how did it come about?
15:06 Were you posing in front of him?
15:08 No, no, no.
15:09 Hey, Nala, I am bringing the painting that Jiji made.
15:13 Keep it down there.
15:15 A small little thing came, you know.
15:17 Could you please give me that bag, please?
15:19 Taken by Mr. Ranbir Singh, actually.
15:22 He is like my elder brother.
15:25 He brought me to Bombay.
15:27 Ranbir Singh.
15:28 And, I mean, his discovery, you know, for the movies.
15:33 So he came to my house and he met my kids and without any light and all that, he took a still and he sent me this.
15:40 So my kids, you know, they fidgeted and put all this, you know, all the kids they are playing with, they ruined it.
15:47 So I like the mood of the lighting and all that.
15:49 Hello, hello.
15:50 This, I will show you a very interesting thing.
15:52 Oh, you have the painting of Madam, right?
15:55 Bring it here, in front.
15:57 So I don't have the negative, you know.
16:00 The lighting, this thing is so beautiful.
16:02 So I thought I will convert it into a permanent painting, you know.
16:06 So I am trying.
16:08 I mean, this is the story. Listen.
16:11 I will tell you a very interesting thing, you know.
16:14 This is, I am trying to paint Nazi, you know, my wife, you know.
16:18 So close.
16:19 I have reached.
16:20 When I am in a bad mood, I spoil the eyes.
16:22 When I am in a bad mood, I spoil the neck.
16:24 When I am in a good mood, I put some jewelry around.
16:26 This thing and all that.
16:27 All that paper.
16:29 All that paper. Of course, I don't have the bodies. What do I do?
16:31 How much money you need for this?
16:33 At least that paper has intentions, you know.
16:35 There must be some reason I am not giving reality, you know.
16:38 At least I am putting the painting.
16:39 No, you don't give it. I go and make it myself.
16:41 She does it. She is handling everything. I am not doing anything.
16:43 So she doesn't have to say that, you know.
16:45 So I expect it. I take it for granted that she must be.
16:47 So I put it there, you know.
16:49 She must be having.
16:51 So I must tell you this very interesting story of this, you know.
16:54 This is a small little ad was there.
16:57 Some, I don't know what, product.
17:00 And some article was written.
17:02 So this small little photograph was there.
17:04 Black and white in Indian Express.
17:06 So it drew my attention.
17:08 So I cut it.
17:10 And I kept it with me, you know.
17:12 So I was always wanting to make this, make this.
17:14 Then my daughter finished her exams and I told her.
17:16 Gigi, she is my daughter.
17:18 I said, darling, you do me a favor.
17:20 They presented me, my daughter, my wife on my birthday, all this painting kit, you know.
17:23 This bag also, you know.
17:25 This all.
17:27 They gave me. And an easel also.
17:29 So I told Gigi, you.
17:31 I got her the canvas.
17:33 I said, darling, paint this.
17:35 So she made, started painting, you know.
17:38 So she made this.
17:41 Right.
17:43 This little bit tempering I have done.
17:45 But the main sketch is all hers.
17:49 After that what happened, then I got inspired.
17:52 I said, let's make it big.
17:55 So I started making.
17:57 So while I was making, I made my daughter sit there to model for me.
18:02 And she had her friends.
18:04 And we were getting very jittery, you know.
18:06 Don't bore me and all that kind of a thing.
18:08 Now what happens, I made the outline.
18:12 One day some friends came in the evening.
18:14 Oh, yeah, she looks like Nazi, you know, your wife.
18:18 So that inspired me.
18:20 So I said, okay, yeah, not bad idea if I am really Nazi.
18:23 I see every day, so I don't, you know, nothing to draw attention.
18:26 So then slowly, slowly that painting turned into this painting.
18:31 Then I had a great problem, you know.
18:33 Now this character of the pigeon is different, flying away.
18:37 Now that pigeon I wanted to sit on the head.
18:39 Maybe it's me, you know.
18:44 So he's like that.
18:46 So I was not finding the expression of the eyes, you know.
18:48 So what I did, darling, hold on.
18:50 Phone, dhaba.
18:52 Uthana, yaar, phone uthana.
18:54 So my daughter has made one very beautiful, I'll show you later on.
18:57 So in her room she's putting, you know.
18:59 They gave me all these books, you know, everything.
19:03 Naga, yaar, leke aana hai na.
19:08 Niche se.
19:10 Nahi, woh jo ji ji ne manaya hai na.
19:15 Yeh, then I, do dun painting aana hai, leke aapari.
19:19 Jitni binai viye.
19:21 Now see this.
19:22 So then once we were going out for a party, you know, when I was serious and in a good mood.
19:27 I really genuinely wanted to paint her.
19:30 Genuinely wanted to paint her.
19:32 So I said, darling, give me a pose.
19:34 So like this, you know.
19:37 She said, why this?
19:39 I said, I'll tell you later.
19:40 She said, something is here, you know, you look there.
19:42 You know, she looked, she gave me this.
19:44 It was very close.
19:45 So this I converted into this, you know.
19:47 This is how it is.
19:50 I hope when I finish it finally, it stays, you know, sometimes.
19:54 It stays, it's all tatted and torn and painted.
19:56 In a lot of my moods and her moods, pata lage one day I come back home.
20:00 She is, instead of shooting me, she shot the photograph.
20:06 Teared it off, rather.
20:07 Yeah, yeah, and all that goes.
20:08 It's okay.
20:09 Is it one way of showing obsession for your wife?
20:12 Not showing, you know.
20:14 I told you the clear story, I don't know how you failed to understand what I'm saying.
20:18 I said, this inspired me.
20:20 Then we went to this.
20:22 And then did a tempering and I like the whole atmosphere.
20:24 Don't you like it?
20:25 Yeah.
20:26 Please.
20:27 Very cute.
20:28 Not cute, it's very artistic.
20:29 Ultimately it lands up with the wife there.
20:32 So ultimately I got stuck with my wife.
20:34 Again.
20:35 Again.
20:36 Again.
20:37 I made some new other face.
20:38 Without realizing, it turned out to be my wife's face.
20:41 My friends told me, which I didn't realize.
20:44 So then I said, okay, if I've come so close, why not to make it.
20:47 Might as well, pura karlo.
20:48 And not let her feel that I'm so much desperately in love with her, you know, all the time looking and painting and consuming and all that.
20:53 Was it?
20:54 When do we see each other?
20:55 That's why I'm doing all this.
20:56 I'm seeing your photograph.
20:57 You know.
20:58 Good, that.
20:59 Chala, anyway.
21:01 Any time spent together, whatever it is.
21:05 Is creative good, bad or ugly, I don't know.
21:08 Now, like, I found this thing somewhere.
21:12 This is my school.
21:14 So I tried to copy them, you know.
21:16 This tree is amazing, you know.
21:18 So like this, you know.
21:20 So my next attempt, I'm going to do this.
21:23 All that.
21:24 No?
21:25 Isn't beautiful?
21:26 So upper portion I have to create.
21:28 The lower portion, see.
21:30 This will look very nice in the dining room.
21:32 So this I'll put in my big canvas.
21:35 Yeah.
21:36 Yes.
21:37 Because in my house I have the windows.
21:39 So we see all these big trees around, you see.
21:42 You know, something, you know.
21:44 Pare hain, kyu door se dikha ho.
21:46 Ek ek kar karein.
21:48 This again, aise, you know.
21:50 Tampering.
21:51 Like my son will come.
21:53 Papa, this is, what is this nonsense?
21:55 You know.
21:56 Acha nahi lagta hai.
21:57 Chala, okay, you try.
21:58 Because I know, Kalav will try and I'll do something.
22:00 So he'll try and go.
22:02 One day I really felt very bad, you know, Radha.
22:05 I needed the canvas.
22:07 He made of his own.
22:08 He came in a good mood.
22:09 He drew a parrot.
22:11 And I thought like kids, you know, they draw something, you know, forget.
22:15 So what happened, I washed it away and I painted all that thing into black and white,
22:20 one thing I want to make.
22:22 And he had to land up there after two days.
22:25 So you destroyed my painting.
22:28 I never realized, you know, he wanted to keep it.
22:32 So I gave him another canvas.
22:33 Darling, you draw another one.
22:34 So he made one and he was getting, you know, that was very beautiful, which I drew and this thing.
22:38 I said, you can always draw it again.
22:40 What is there?
22:41 Doosri dikhana?
22:45 See.
22:46 This also is made by my daughter.
22:50 See the cow and everything she made.
22:52 She's very, you know, without training that much, you know.
22:55 See this.
22:56 This also, it must be 30 year old with me.
22:59 30 years ago, I must have cut it from a magazine, you know.
23:01 I got inspired, you know.
23:03 People collect things, you know, antiques that I collect like this, you know.
23:07 So subconsciously it's been there in your mind somewhere.
23:10 No, it was there in my papers, you know.
23:11 It's there in his blood.
23:13 His uncle used to be a big artist in Delhi.
23:17 Actually, mama was a very good painter, photographer, dancer, theater man, you know, like that.
23:24 I think he's some...
23:25 Genes are there in him.
23:26 Genes are there with me.
23:27 So I, then after this bird photograph, I said, darling, you paint this.
23:31 So she painted.
23:32 See her name is there.
23:33 She painted by 5-12-99.
23:36 This is December 19 and she...
23:38 This is our signature also.
23:40 See our signatures.
23:41 Divyanka Bedi.
23:43 And I, of course, little bit guideline to her, you know.
23:48 So I want her creation, you know.
23:51 So for me, daughter is flowing onto the whole family.
23:53 It was you, your son, your daughter, everybody.
23:56 No, it's not flowing from daughter.
23:58 It's flowing somewhere, you know.
24:00 Like I told you.
24:01 From whom to whom, I don't know.
24:02 From whom to whom, you don't know.
24:04 Hello.
24:05 I was not getting a pigeon.
24:06 Thank you.
24:07 Pigeon, I was sitting there.
24:09 So I wanted to get the idea how the pigeon...
24:12 Because I wanted that thing, illusion.
24:15 So this, now this also somebody sent me a card, you know.
24:20 So this is the card, you know.
24:22 So from this card, I converted this.
24:25 Now I was trying to go very close, if I can make my face and Nadi's face, so it looks like...
24:30 But let's see.
24:32 It is dried up now.
24:34 I'll feature with the...
24:37 Nadi's face could be, who is it, man's face, but...
24:40 I'll make mine.
24:41 I'll make mine only, no?
24:43 So that you also get bored.
24:45 Anyway, that's not...
24:49 So like this, I was trying to get a pigeon.
24:51 Because I was not getting the illusion of the wings, you know.
24:54 Those strokes.
24:56 So this, I've been clicking on there, you know, sitting there.
24:59 Oh, that became another big story.
25:01 Big story, yeah.
25:02 Must have exposed so many rows just for the pigeons.
25:05 Just to get the pigeon.
25:06 So we're not getting, you know.
