Ancient Aliens: Shocking UFO Photo Leaked to the Public (Season 19)

00:00 In the 21st century, UFO hunters are armed with technology
00:05 that allows them to record anomalies in the sky
00:08 with incredible clarity.
00:11 And today's technology can also glean new information
00:15 from photographs taken decades ago.
00:18 The northern highlands of Costa Rica, September 4th, 1971.
00:27 Photographer Sergio Loiza is conducting an aerial survey
00:32 of Lake Cote for the National Geographic Institute
00:36 using a special map-making camera
00:39 that snaps photos at 13-second intervals.
00:42 He's up in an airplane about 10,000 feet.
00:45 He's taking photos of a hydroelectric project,
00:48 and they're trying to calculate the environmental impact of this.
00:52 So he's just taking these ordinary photos,
00:57 gets back to the lab, takes a look at the contact sheets,
01:00 and says, "What's that up in the right-hand corner there?"
01:04 It's this mysterious, circular, shiny, metallic craft.
01:10 Curiously, the object does not appear
01:13 in either the previous frame of film or the one after.
01:17 Instantly, the National Geographic Institute says,
01:21 "You can't talk about this, and we're going to put a lid on this."
01:25 And they do for some time.
01:27 According to Loiza, he and his colleagues were forbidden
01:31 from divulging any information about the object
01:34 captured in the photograph,
01:36 which was estimated to be 160 feet in diameter.
01:41 But in 1979, the photograph was leaked
01:45 to the Argentine newspaper La Nacion
01:48 and analyzed by UFO researchers.
01:53 The photo is studied later by Jacques Vallee
01:56 and other UFO investigators,
01:58 and they realize this is a tremendous photograph.
02:03 This photo has been officially declared by Costa Rica
02:06 as an official UFO photo.
02:08 They don't know what it is after years and years of study.
02:12 Many skeptics suggested that the object
02:15 was some kind of debris or smudge that got on the film
02:19 during the development process.
02:22 But in 2021, Esteban Carranza, a friend of the Loiza family,
02:28 was able to obtain the original contact sheets
02:31 and have them scanned using the latest
02:34 and most sophisticated technology.
02:37 He gains access to the original contact sheets
02:41 and sends them off to a photographic lab,
02:43 where they do a reproduction of the image
02:46 using the most advanced technology to bring it forward,
02:50 and they come up with this 1.8-gigabyte image of this craft.
02:55 The debris and smudges that were visible
02:58 in the original photograph are no longer present
03:01 in the new higher-resolution image,
03:03 but the saucer-shaped object remains
03:06 and is clearer than ever.
03:09 This higher-definition scan showed some new details.
03:12 These new details helped take a number of prosaic explanations
03:15 off the table.
03:17 For example, it was said that it could have been a chip
03:20 in the glass.
03:21 However, you can see that that's not the case.
03:25 This photo, in and of itself, in its original state,
03:28 was tremendous.
03:30 But now, with this incredible leap in technology,
03:33 we're able to bring it to life in an even greater way.
03:37 And it's just another example of this great leap
03:40 that we're making now in our understanding of these UAPs.
