00:00 Well, I think I was surprised that her view of colonization is so limited.
00:10 There is no mistake that First Nations people, people in Canada, America, New Zealand and
00:19 Australia all suffer from similar social circumstances.
00:24 That is not a coincidence.
00:26 That is a result of colonization and communities are bringing themselves out of that.
00:34 That is why Indigenous people are in the situation we are.
00:37 It is not an excuse.
00:39 It's not a justification for not changing it.
00:43 But a lot of the things we see are symptomatic of the process of colonization that's removed
00:49 people's economic base, their land.
00:52 It's put them in reserves, omissions.
00:55 It's meant that they've been denied equal opportunities in employment.
00:59 They've been denied proper education in these reserves and missions.
01:04 And so it's intergenerational poverty that is caused by colonization.
01:11 That's what we see today.
01:13 That is what we're dealing with.
01:15 And I think Jacinta is under the impression that the colonization is a very short period
01:21 around where the convicts happened.
01:22 But actually colonization lasted from 1788 for another hundred or more years.
01:30 So I think it's a lack of understanding on her behalf about the scale of colonization
01:37 and what we term colonization, in fact.
