Já o time celeste volta a respirar na competição após ficar oito partidas consecutivas sem vencer na Série A. O último triunfo dos mineiros havia sido em 8 de julho, sobre o Vasco (1 a 0).  Com a vitória, o Cruzeiro subiu momentaneamente para a 10ª posição. A Raposa agora tem 29 pontos – sete vitórias, oito empates e oito derrotas.
