00:04 culturally, artistically, than the color purple.

00:09 It is a solid base of spiritual

00:13 and emotional power for me.

00:18 Every woman and man who has been invisible,

00:22 who has felt unseen and unvalued,

00:25 this is their story.

00:29 Today, our teacher taught us about a place called Africa.

00:32 Our mommies come from Queens over there.

00:34 You know what that means.

00:36 We royalty.

00:38 The original film is one of the cornerstones of culture,

00:43 certainly black culture.

00:45 What if we put it back out into the world?

00:47 And kind of paint our own version of it.

00:49 We want to connect with the younger generation.

00:52 Blitz is our incredible director.

00:54 He's putting a little modern twist to it,

00:56 but still capturing the essence of what this film means.

00:58 It's a story of finding yourself and living it

01:01 and going after it no matter what.

01:03 It's about sisterhood.

01:05 And redemption.

01:07 Where you get to see all these strong women shine

01:10 and be who they're truly meant to be.

01:12 A lot of women.

01:14 You seem like trouble.

01:16 Now I come here out of respect.

01:19 But if there ain't nothing to give,

01:21 that's sure ain't nothing to give.

01:23 It's a human story, and that's what makes it

01:26 ultimately great and enduring.
