00:00 Exactly two months after the law was passed, the Supreme Court petitioned to stop the Maharlika Investment Fund because it is not in accordance with the current law.
00:11 Salima Refran pointed that out.
00:13 The Maharlika Investment Fund was stopped and unconstitutionally declared by the group Bayan Muna and the Senate Minority Leader Coco Pimentel.
00:24 They were fed up with the petition for certiorari and prohibition requested by the TRO in the Supreme Court.
00:30 The first violation is the requirement of the Constitution of economic viability before the establishment of a GOCC.
00:39 There is no basis to certify this law as urgent or emergency by the President.
00:44 And there were changes even without a session.
00:48 It also violates the independence of the Central Bank of the Philippines.
00:52 The Maharlika is not independent of Malacanang and its fund can be used for corruption or cronyism where the businessmen are favoring the friends of Malacanang.
01:06 They are determined to stop the transfer of money to the Maharlika Investment Fund.
01:12 Just a week ago, the land bank received P50 billion while the Developed Bank of the Philippines received P25 billion.
01:20 A worldwide recession. Other big countries are very careful. But this is the Philippines. We created this fund. We are not sure who will run it.
01:35 Respondents in the petition called on Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Department of Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno and the Senate and the House of Representatives.
01:45 According to the Solicitor General, who is the government's lawyer, they are watching the debates on this issue to discuss the legal issues that can be laid before the Supreme Court.
