00:00 Welcome to MovieGasm.com where I'm gonna be bringing you the latest in upcoming movie
00:03 news and theories.
00:04 And today we're gonna be talking about Netflix's live-action adaptation for Avatar The Last
00:08 Airbender.
00:26 Now let's get into a little bit of a synopsis and history for those who do not know Avatar
00:29 The Last Airbender.
00:30 Avatar The Last Airbender originally aired from 2005 to 2008 and is set in a war-torn
00:36 world where certain people can bend one of the four classic elements, water, earth, fire,
00:41 and air.
00:42 The Avatar, the living last airbender named Aang, is the bridge between the mortal and
00:47 the spirit worlds, and is the only one capable of bending all four elements.
00:51 With his companions Katara and Sokka, Aang sets out to master the elements and bring
00:55 peace to the world and being pursued by the exiled Fire Nation crown prince Zuko.
01:00 After the series, we even got a really well-loved spin-off called The Legend of Korra.
01:04 Avatar The Last Airbender became a classic and had a significant impact on how networks
01:08 viewed animated programs in the 2010s.
01:10 It blurred the line between youth and adult programming, featuring some more adult and
01:14 darker themes.
01:15 It is an absolute masterclass in animation, character development, and complex storytelling
01:19 that still resonates with audiences today.
01:21 Now before we delve into Netflix's upcoming live-action reboot, it is worth noting that
01:25 this isn't the first attempt at a live-action adaptation for Avatar.
01:29 In 2010, M. Night Shyamalan directed a live-action adaptation that was met with significant
01:34 criticism.
01:35 The film was mainly criticized for its casting decisions, with many fans and critics accusing
01:39 it of "whitewashing."
01:40 Additionally, many felt that it failed to capture the spirit of the original series,
01:44 and as of right now, the film currently holds a 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and any plans
01:48 for sequels are scrapped due to its poor reception.
01:51 There was some mixed reviews on the fighting sequences, as many found them to be quite
01:54 entertaining.
01:55 I myself, when I was younger, also found some of these fight scenes to be pretty entertaining
01:58 as well.
01:59 But as mentioned before, the movie lacked the heart and feeling that made Avatar The
02:03 Last Airbender super important.
02:05 Now let's talk about the cast for a little bit here.
02:07 For the live-action reboot, the series is directed by Albert Kim, and the cast includes
02:10 Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Dallas Liu as Pazuko, Kaiwentio as Katara, Ian Owsley
02:16 as Sokka, Paul Soon-Hung Lee as General Iroh, and Daniel Dae Kim as the Fire Lord Ozai.
02:22 The casting process was meticulous to ensure that each actor could bring their character
02:26 to life, while also honoring the original animated series.

02:49 Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news concerning the series, and earlier this year fans were
02:53 treated to a first look at the live-action Avatar.
02:56 The official photo revealed Gordon Cormier as Aang in character and in costume.
03:00 We can also see in the backdrop of the picture a snowy mountain under a clear blue sky, which
03:05 could represent the southern air temple where Aang was raised.
03:08 We also got some additional looks at some of the other cast members in their costumes
03:11 as well.
03:12 Some red carpet pictures as well as an official logo reveal.
03:15 From a presentation in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the series is currently slated for February
03:19 2024, and these first pictures look really promising.
03:23 This is already a major improvement compared to the M. Night Shyamalan version.
03:27 Just even looking at this pose, I cannot wait to see what they do with this, even their
03:31 action sequences I'm anticipating to be super amazing.
03:33 And growing up watching Avatar, as a fan, I'm personally excited for this, and for
03:37 his performance as Aang.
03:38 Now as for possible theories on what we can expect, we're obviously expecting to see
03:42 the main core story be adapted in some type of way, but there's also some theories suggesting
03:46 that it will show both sides of bending that weren't fully explored in the original series,
03:51 especially some major consequences.
03:52 And despite the controversy surrounding this show, because there's a couple of things
03:55 out there, there's various reasons why Netflix's live action adaptation could actually be pretty
03:59 good.
04:00 Especially with the success of the live action One Piece adaptation, if Netflix plays their
04:03 cards right, we could be witnessing an amazing future for animation live action adaptations.
04:08 I really hope that they adapt the storylines well and stick to the core nature of what
04:12 makes Avatar amazing, but I'm personally open for some changes, especially if it adds
04:16 onto the lore and can expand the series somewhat.
04:19 As of right now we're slated for 8 episodes, so I'm hoping with a really good budget
04:23 and really good storytelling and writing, we can get an amazing version of what fans
04:25 wanted back in 2010.
04:26 Now that's it for this video, I hope you enjoyed it.
