A MAN with no mechanical experience has fulfilled his childhood goal of building his dream car. Taking inspiration from when he read car magazines in his youth, Moses Ngobeni, has managed to build his ideal car - all by hand. The electrical engineer from Giyani, South Africa, spent three years building the car he had dreamt of for decades. Building the car cost Moses 240,000 ZAR ($12,742) and was made using parts from a variety of different car models.

00:00 COMM: Electrical engineer Moses Ungabeni
00:17 has realised a childhood dream - to build his very own sports car from scratch.
00:23 MOSES UNGABENI: While I was still a boy, something
00:25 came up into my mind. I said one day I want to build my own sports vehicle. I saw those
00:32 American sports cars like COVID, then I said one day when I grow old I want to build one
00:38 and nothing can stop me. It was bend by hand. The body structure, shape and everything,
00:44 it was handmade. And it's not like it's a complete workshop but if you are determined
00:50 to complete your future dream, you end up doing it. By God's grace, I've managed
00:54 to complete my project. So I thank God for that.
00:57 COMM: The thrifty engineer used car parts from
01:00 a number of different models and has only spent 240,000 Rand so far. That's just
01:06 £12,700 or $16,750 US dollars.
01:11 MOSES UNGABENI: Okay, the engine is a 2-litre
01:13 engine from BMW 318i S, 98 model. The glasses, this small one here is from the Mazda 86 model.
01:23 The door glasses are from BMW M3 E46 model, 2005. The front windscreen is from BWKD Baki.
01:34 The front lights, they are from ODTT 2011 model. The rear fog lamp is from the 318i S.
01:41 It was used as a brake assistance on top of the windscreen. The taillights are from Nissan
01:46 Skyline GT-R 2015 model.
01:48 COMM: Moses can even start the engine remotely.
01:52 MOSES UNGABENI: I'm really proud of him.
01:54 I know it's a dream come true for him to build this car. It's his passion.
01:58 COMM: And the supercar superfan hopes his
02:01 new wheels will also make his country proud.
02:03 MOSES UNGABENI: In South Africa, we don't
02:05 have a model that will say it was like manufactured, designed by South Africa. I am in South Africa
02:12 and I'm not doing this thing for myself, it's for the country and for my people.
