00:00 >> Hey, leadership was mentioned by your coach.
00:02 We've talked about you and leadership.
00:03 What does leadership look like for you as a player at this moment right now?
00:07 >> Myself along with the rest of the team, we gotta take it up another notch,
00:11 especially after a loss like that.
00:14 We made too many, we had too many mistakes, self imposed mistakes, and
00:17 we play against a good team like we did tonight, we can't do that.
00:19 So we gotta clean it up and get back to the drawing board.
00:21 >> Thanks, Ryan.
00:24 >> Hey, this question is for both you guys.
00:26 Obviously a very challenging week amid all those circumstances.
00:29 How do you think you guys handled this?
00:31 And looking back at the performance tonight,
00:34 how much you think that was a factor in what played out in the field?
00:37 Just in all of this.
00:39 >> Yeah, I mean, our team bought in to Coach Barnett.
00:41 We trust him fully, and we trust everything he says.
00:46 I think we had good unity going into this week.
00:49 I think the guys were bought in.
00:51 I think everyone was mission focused.
00:52 We just made too many mistakes.
00:54 And we're gonna go back and watch the film.
00:56 We're gonna learn from it,
00:57 cuz the best teams they learn from games like this, we're gonna get better.
00:59 >> Absolutely, same thing JD said.
01:02 We definitely bought in, and all together under Coach Barnett.
01:06 We just made too many mistakes tonight, and
01:08 we played against good teams that capitalized off of that.
01:10 And that's exactly what happened this evening.
01:12 >> This one's for both of you as well.
01:13 I guess with Coach Henton being back,
01:15 what did his presence mean to you guys this week?
01:18 >> It's always good to have a great mind like that around,
01:20 just to help out and give his thoughts on things we can improve and work on.
01:24 So it's great to have Coach be back in the mix.
01:27 >> Exactly, man.
01:27 >> Guys, obviously, you know you gotta get better, but
01:32 you're playing three teams the rest of the way that are higher ranked than
01:35 Washington.
01:37 How do you get from where you were today to where you need to be to be competitive
01:40 in those games?
01:41 >> We treat every game as if it's the biggest game on our schedule.
01:44 And so we're gonna attack each week with our best effort, and
01:49 we're gonna get better each week.
01:50 We're not looking past anyone.
01:52 We have a very talented team, and we believe that, and
01:55 we know that, so we're gonna get better.
01:56 We're gonna watch the phone and get better.
01:58 We got Maryland next, and that's where our focus is at.
02:01 >> How do you do that?
02:02 How do you get better short turnaround times?
02:05 >> It starts with just looking at ourselves in the mirror first.
02:07 When you're a team and you go through a difficult time like this,
02:10 you gotta see what can you do to improve individually and as a team.
02:14 Because we can't worry about what anyone else is doing if we're not doing
02:17 our stuff right.
02:17 So from players, coaches, supporters, everyone,
02:20 there's improvement that needs to be made, and we're gonna do that.
02:23 We have no choice.
02:23 >> I'm wondering for both you guys,
02:27 I guess just how much of this week was there shock and surprise?
02:34 And like Coach Barnett said, as you move further away from what happened last week,
02:40 how does it stabilize for you guys?
02:42 How do you guys as leaders stabilize things for guys?
02:45 >> Well, the first day when it came up, it was a shock to everyone.
02:48 But after that, we did a great job moving on because we had an opponent to get ready
02:52 for so we couldn't live in the past and start to cry or make excuses.
02:57 Cuz Washington didn't care what was going on with us and our program.
02:59 So we had to go out there and prepare for this game.
03:02 >> Always keep the main thing.
03:04 >> Right, I'm wondering for both you guys,
03:08 just what were you seeing in your teammates' faces in the locker room after
03:11 a game like that?
03:12 And what was sort of the general mood in there,
03:13 again, a week with a lot of emotions and things involved after a game like that?
03:17 What was going on in the locker room?
03:19 >> Just eager to get back out there and get better.
03:21 Eager to watch the film, eager to get in tomorrow, get better as a team.
03:25 I mean, our team's bought in.
03:27 This isn't gonna make us worse, it's gonna make us better.
03:29 We're gonna learn from this and get better.
03:31 >> So losing when you face adversity, it's about how you can respond.
03:34 So myself and the rest of our team, we're challenged with that.
03:37 So we gotta get back to drawing board, clean things up, and
03:41 get ready to move forward to next week.
03:42 >> Stevie, I'll pass it to you, right?
03:46 >> For sure.
03:48 >> Hey, it's been a crazy week for you guys, especially with the loss tonight.
03:54 How are you guys keeping your mindset positive,
03:56 especially having a big 10 play?
03:58 >> It's a long season.
03:59 You win some, you lose some, but you gotta keep pushing forward because you can't
04:04 feel bad for yourself.
04:04 It's your next opponent, they don't care.
04:06 So like you said, we're starting a big team to play.
04:08 We still have a lot of goals in front of us.
04:09 So as a team, we gotta come together even closer so
04:11 that we can accomplish the things we want to.
04:13 >> JD, about the run game today, the offensive line,
04:18 how did you see things materialize as the day went along?
04:21 Three teams in now, where do you think that part is and what needs to happen?
04:25 >> We just gotta watch the film and get better.
04:27 I know it's competitive, but it's what we need to do.
04:30 They did some things, we were prepared.
04:32 And I think we're gonna watch the film and really just be frustrated because
04:38 usually you got four or five guys doing the right thing, or
04:42 four guys doing the right thing, and one guy's just not doing the right thing.
04:45 So we're gonna fix that and we're gonna get it better.
04:48 I mean, especially with everyone's bought in.
04:50 Coach Kapp's one of the best coaches I've ever had.
04:52 So he's gonna give us the right work.
04:54 We're gonna get better from this.
04:55 >> Trey, the passing attack, how do you guys think you did it as far as that unit
04:59 goes, and can you think about some things that need to get better there?
05:03 >> Not good enough.
05:04 We didn't execute the way we needed to in a game like this.
05:07 From penalties, routes not being good enough,
05:11 boss jobs, whatever the case may be.
05:12 Anything negative, we gotta clean up because we, as the receivers,
05:16 need to make our quarterback job as easy as possible.
05:18 He has a lot going on, but making sure he's checking the defenses and
05:22 making the correct calls for the lines, so we have to make his job as easy as possible.
05:26 And I feel like we didn't do that as good as we should have tonight.
05:28 >> All right, I know you guys are a little bit frustrated, but
05:33 when you look at this staff, the players, the program, the people in it,
05:37 what makes you proud of how you've gotten through this last week?
05:40 >> Spartans, and we handle adversity as best as anybody can.
05:44 We've been through some things that a lot of people haven't, so
05:47 we have no choice but to keep pushing forward, and that's what we wanna do.
05:49 >> Yep.
05:50 >> One for both you guys, obviously offensive players.
05:55 Just what did you see from Coach Barnett is in this role,
05:58 you both sound like a confident body moving forward.
06:00 Why is that?
06:01 Just what does he bring to that position that maybe you guys learned not being in
06:04 a good position room and everything?
06:06 >> The message, he's consistent, preaches the same thing every day,
06:09 stuff we need to do as a program and as a team to get better.
06:12 So just taking, cuz he's a player, he played here a couple years ago.
06:17 But Coach Barnett, he has the respect and love from everyone in the program,
06:21 cuz we know how genuine he is.
06:23 So just listening to him and continue to buy in even more so
06:26 that we can, as I said earlier, accomplish the goals we need to accomplish this year.
06:30 >> Every single player on the team respects him, every single player.
06:33 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:36 >> Anything else, guys?
06:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:39 All right, thank you.
06:40 [BLANK_AUDIO]
