00:00 We've been clear we will not tolerate any form of foreign interference.
00:04 We will seek the truth.
00:06 We will protect Canadians at all times.
00:10 We will protect Canada's sovereignty.
00:12 I've conveyed these principles to my Indian counterpart,
00:16 and I've also told him that we expect India's full collaboration
00:20 to make sure that we get to the bottom of this.
00:24 And as of today, and as a consequence,
00:27 we've expelled a top Indian diplomat from Canada.
00:31 Responding to this, India has strongly refuted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations
00:37 of its involvement in the killing of a Khalistani terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
00:42 India immediately labelled Trudeau's allegations as absurd and motivated,
00:46 asserting that there is no basis for such claims.
00:49 In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi said, and I quote,
00:54 "Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists
01:00 who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
01:07 Trudeau's accusations stem from what he referred to as credible allegations of a potential link
01:12 between agents of the Indian government and the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar,
01:17 which occurred in June outside a temple in British Columbia.
01:21 First and foremost, I would like to extend my condolences to the family and loved ones of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
01:30 The allegations that a representative of a foreign government may have been involved
01:36 in the killing of a Canadian citizen here in Canada on Canadian soil
01:43 is not only troubling, but it is completely unacceptable.
01:48 If proven true, this would be a grave violation of our sovereignty
01:54 and of the most basic rule of how countries deal with each other.
02:00 We've been clear we will not tolerate any form of foreign interference.
02:06 Since this was brought to our attention, we've been guided by three principles.
02:12 The first one, we will seek the truth.
02:17 The second one, we will protect Canadians at all times.
02:21 And thirdly, we will protect Canada's sovereignty.
02:27 I've conveyed these principles to my Indian counterpart,
02:30 and I've also told him that we expect India's full collaboration to make sure that we get to the bottom of this.
02:38 And as of today, and as a consequence, we've expelled a top Indian diplomat from Canada.
02:46 Canada's remarks have further strained the already troubled relationships between Canada and India.
02:51 Just last week, Canada decided to postpone a planned trade mission to India scheduled for early October.
02:57 The decision followed Trudeau's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi,
03:01 which seemed to have further strained bilateral ties.
03:05 New Delhi has firmly denied any involvement in the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar
03:11 and is demanding a retraction of Trudeau's allegations.
03:14 India clearly views the claims as baseless and detrimental to the long-standing ties between the two countries.
