00:00 >> We have safety Anthony Wilson.
00:03 Questions for Anthony.
00:05 >> Anthony, I think the last time we talked to you was before the season.
00:10 So you've now got games under your belt.
00:12 Anything different from your previous experiences or
00:17 is football football?
00:19 >> Not really, I'll just say mainly, like you said, football is football.
00:25 Maybe different surroundings, different environment, but
00:28 for me, football is football.
00:30 >> Environment Saturday though, what was that like?
00:34 And again, you've played a couple of big locations, so is that different?
00:38 >> Yeah, the fans were, the atmosphere was crazy and electric.
00:42 And they came out and made it really tough for
00:47 the opponent, for Pitt, and we appreciate that.
00:51 >> Getting back to, look at your other place when you beat Nebraska.
00:56 How did you guys do the next week and
00:58 how did you put that great win behind you and then move forward?
01:02 >> We just let the momentum carry ourselves into the next week.
01:07 We celebrated the win that night, and
01:10 then the next day we moved on to the next opponent.
01:14 >> How'd you do?
01:16 >> We won.
01:16 >> You won? >> Yes.
01:17 >> Was the guys pretty focused end of the week or
01:22 did the celebration carry over a little bit?
01:24 >> No, we were focused.
01:26 Like I said, we had the next game mentality,
01:27 cuz we knew we had to get ready for the next opponent.
01:29 >> How much less you guys struggled the first couple games,
01:36 but much better this week?
01:38 What was the difference?
01:39 What was the turnaround?
01:40 >> I'll say just getting our chemistry down and us playing together and
01:44 just gelling, and we're starting to play together as a whole defense.
01:49 And we're just gonna keep getting better from here.
01:51 >> Was that the message, particularly for the corners?
01:56 >> Yeah, yeah, our corners, they did a great job.
02:01 Malachi Ruff and Beanie Bishop had some turnovers and
02:05 created some turnovers and we're just gonna keep rolling.
02:09 >> You were the only one of those guys that didn't get the interception.
02:16 Were you thirsty for one?
02:18 >> Yeah, yeah, mine's coming.
02:20 >> Explain the difference between the 24 hours after the Penn State game and
02:25 the 24 hours after the Pitt game, between winning and losing.
02:29 >> Yeah, obviously after the Penn State game, we were down on ourselves.
02:36 And nobody likes losing, but we just had to look back on the things
02:41 that we could have done better and just move forward.
02:45 And after the Pitt game, everybody was excited and happy to get the win.
02:52 And now that that game's over, we gotta put it past us and move forward.
02:57 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:03 >> Can you say that again?
03:04 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:11 >> Yeah, it definitely is, but
03:12 it's something that we have to do, cuz every game, every week is a big game.
03:18 >> You're known for your aggression, they've all talked about that.
03:25 Obviously, there's a line, so how do you keep the aggression but not go too far?
03:32 >> Just playing smart and playing within the rules of the game of football.
03:37 Just playing the correct technique and listening to coaching.
03:43 >> Have you always been a big hitter?
03:45 I mean, even going back to Little League, junior high, high school?
03:48 >> Yeah, I would say so, I would say so.
03:50 >> Where did that come from?
03:52 >> Just my passion for the game and
03:55 just I've always just had something inside me that just,
04:01 I don't even know how to explain it really, just.
04:03 >> Was there a moment in the game last week when you realized that this one's
04:09 maybe a little bit different than some of the other games you've been to play?
04:12 Or something happened in the game,
04:15 you'd say, yeah, this is a different type of rivalry?
04:18 >> Yeah, I could just feel it in the air, like on the man trip on the bus,
04:24 I could just, with the fans and how everybody was just excited.
04:30 I could just tell that this game means a lot.
04:33 >> What do you see out of this Texas Tech receiving core and
04:39 this area offense and what are gonna be some of the ways to button them up?
04:48 >> We just gotta do our jobs, they run tempo, so we're gonna have to get lined up,
04:53 get the call, and be on our assignments.
04:56 But the main thing is us getting lined up to their tempo and
04:59 doing what we are supposed to do.
05:01 >> [INAUDIBLE]
05:11 >> I would say, in addition to, of course,
05:20 getting lined up and getting the call, just communication.
05:24 Because there's always checks and different things that are going within
05:29 the defense, so just make sure we're communicating, everybody's on the same page.
05:33 >> Is that communication tough for you initially?
05:40 I mean, you had to catch on quickly, is that the hard part?
05:46 >> Not really, cuz I mean, at the end of the day, football is football.
05:49 But just the terms and stuff, terminology is the only thing that's really different.
05:54 >> Possibility of two quarterbacks, what are the challenges you have to face when
05:59 you could possibly play two different quarterbacks?
06:03 >> We just gotta prepare, like both of them are playing,
06:07 just get ready for both of them.
06:10 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:15 >> You're picking schools and possibilities in the transfer portal,
06:18 like where you might go.
06:20 How much did you consider just the opportunity of playing against Big 12
06:24 offenses, their tempo, their receivers?
06:26 >> That was a major part of my decision, cuz I know that Big 12 is known for
06:33 its passing, as a passing league.
06:35 So the opportunity to get my hands on balls is something that
06:39 really played a part in my decision.
06:41 >> [INAUDIBLE]
06:44 >> Saturday was very different,
06:45 it was not like a Big 12 opponent you were playing out there.
06:47 As a safety, what did you think walking through that game and
06:51 seeing so many runs and such a struggle with the passing game too?
06:56 >> Yeah, obviously, they ran the ball a lot, Pitt ran the ball a lot.
07:01 So we just had to hammer down and just control our gaps.
07:07 And everybody did their job.
07:11 And with the passing game,
07:13 we just had to be ready when our numbers were called and that's what we did.
07:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:22 >> Okay, anything else for Anthony?
07:26 All right, thank you very much.
