NYFW Spring/Summer 2024: Christian Siriano Supports Project Runway Winner Bishme Cromartie at His NYFW Debut

  • last year
Project Runway: All Stars Season 20 victor Bishme Cromartie showed his collection at New York Fashion Week last week, just five days after his winning episode premiered. Judges Nina Garcia, Elaine Welteroth, and mentor Christian Siriano were all sitting on the front row for the big moment of the Baltimore-born designer. 'Bishme is amazing, so talented and awesome,' said Siriano. 'It was a great show -- really curated, really edited, which is hard to do. He did a great job.' Cromartie mixed femininity and masculinity in his latest sexy, sporty collection. 'The inspiration behind this collection is understanding that you're the gift,' he told us after the show. 'I always knew I would be showcasing at New York Fashion Week, and it felt right, but to be here now... after what happened last week is crazy. It's mindblowing in a way.'

00:00 Hey, what's up?
00:01 My name's Bishme Kramarty and you're watching Life Minute TV.
00:07 Bishme's amazing, so talented and awesome.
00:14 It was a great show, really curated, really edited, which is really hard to do, so he
00:18 did a great job.
00:19 The laminated denim pieces were really, really cool.
00:22 I thought they were really interesting.
00:24 I think what's great about his clothes is that they're really kind of, they're sporty
00:27 but sexy but very wearable and still kind of elegant at the same time, so I love to
00:31 see that.
00:32 The inspiration behind his collection is understanding that you're the gift, so in a way that's
00:37 where the gold plays and understanding that where you are is where you belong.
00:41 So I always knew I would be showcasing at New York Fashion Week and it just felt right,
00:46 but to be here now, it's like, after what happened last week, it's just crazy.
00:52 It's mind-blowing in a way.
00:55 So one thing that I love to add is feminine with masculinity and when I add that in, sometimes
01:01 it might be a major thing of femininity that you see or you might see a hint of masculinity.
01:07 So I love to play around with the idea of having this hard but soft girl, but she's
01:13 really just protecting herself and just out here doing what she has to do to survive and
01:18 continue being beautiful.
01:20 I love Nina Garcia because she noticed that it was different denims that I was working
01:24 with and the green is actually a reverse denim, so I reversed it so that it can kind of have
01:30 that tweed feel, but it's so lightweight, it has a feel that you can wear it in the
01:34 spring or you can wear it in the fall or pre-fall.
01:37 That's like saying who was your favorite child.
01:39 The last two looks, because I feel like the drama that they added to the steadiness of
01:44 what the collection showcased, I think brung everything together so everybody's like,
01:49 "Oh, okay, we understand now."
01:51 One thing, I feel like the long cargo denim skirts is something that you can wear and
01:56 like wear a sweatshirt with it or a t-shirt with it, and then a mini, you can wear a long
02:00 sweater with that.
02:01 I love layering short with big or tight with oversized.
02:06 The best advice I have for them is to keep on building stars and gearing them to be ready
02:13 to take on the fashion industry because I've learned so much from Project Runway, I've
02:17 learned so much from Nina Garcia, I've learned so much from Elaine and Christian.
02:21 He's a real dope mentor.
02:23 So we're backstage at Bichme at New York Fashion Week and the look for today is this mid-bun
02:30 center part, really sleek.
02:33 The idea was to keep it young, keep it cool, and so we have this beautiful shine.
02:39 The hair looks and feels beautiful and we're really excited to see it on the runway.
02:43 So we collaborated around the collection with Bichme and talked about what he wanted as
02:47 far as showing the designs and making sure the hair was off the neck and really just
02:53 focusing on just the silhouette and so the hair I think fits perfectly.
02:57 So the look here today at Bichme is very beautiful.
03:00 We've done a really dreamy, dewy skin and we've used a lot of earth tones to accentuate
03:04 the different complexions of the models.
03:05 Then we've done a nice, beautiful contour and then a darker lip liner on the lips and
03:11 a little bit of shimmery gloss in the middle.
03:13 Looking at the collection, they have a lot of textures, a lot of colors, a lot of like
03:16 reflective materials, so the skin's actually a little bit glassy looking.
03:19 We've got a little bit of wetness on the cheek and we just wanted to not use too many colors,
03:24 just like accentuate the natural beauty so it would work with all the different colors
03:27 throughout the collection.
03:29 It means a lot.
03:30 This has been a goal of mine for the longest.
03:33 Every fashion designer, they want to showcase at New York Fashion Week and for this to be
03:38 my debut show and the response that I received, I'm just like thankful.
