A woman who had to have stents implanted in her brain due to a "mystery illness" permanently lost vision in her right eye - after the stents "choked out" her optic nerve.

Chandler Plante, 23, suffered a stroke in March 2021 and lost all vision in her right eye eight months later. While the vision loss wasn't caused by the stroke, it happened as a result of her treatment.

She hasn't received any official diagnosis for her ongoing health problems - which include frequent strokes, head and face inflammation.

Her doctors have speculated it could be down to an autoimmune condition - even a "really severe" version of long covid.

She's been through multiple rounds of radiation, courses of steroids and chemo drugs - and will need to take aspirin daily for the rest of her life to prevent the strokes from coming back.

00:00 Hi besties, my name is Chan.
00:02 And in light of a lot of people inquiring
00:05 about this little guy over here,
00:07 I decided I would share my progress with infusions.
00:11 I lost the vision in my right eye not too long ago
00:14 due to a mysterious COVID complication.
00:17 There is essentially a benign pseudo tumor of inflammation
00:21 sitting right behind my eyeball.
00:24 And in an effort to get that inflammation to go down,
00:27 I've been getting infusions of a medication called Rituximab.
00:31 It essentially shuts down half of your immune system
00:34 so that it can't attack itself.
00:37 So this is my way of seeing in real time how it's working.
00:41 Four days post infusion, we're trying to heal this guy.
00:46 The day of my second infusion.
00:49 Four days post my second infusion.
00:54 And this is me about three weeks post infusion.
00:58 It looks differently from every angle, of course,
01:01 but it's a lot less proctotic
01:03 and the eye pressure has almost completely evened out.
01:05 Since undergoing that major bummer,
01:07 I've slowly started surrounding myself
01:10 with eyeball related paraphernalia.
01:13 One, because it kind of clues people in
01:15 to the fact that I don't just have
01:16 a really bad case of pink eye,
01:18 which no disrespect to people with really bad pink eye.
01:22 And two, because it's just funny and slay,
01:24 like what am I gonna do?
01:25 Actually, I could cry about it.
01:27 It does still cry.
01:27 There's poetry in there somewhere.
01:29 Get a load of that bad boy.
01:30 This is another fan favorite given to me
01:32 by a friend for my birthday.
01:34 And more realistic, honestly.
01:36 My bestie Renee owns a company called Bella Tumblers
01:39 and she made me a tumbler completely covered in eyeballs.
01:44 Phone case, eyeballs.
01:47 My rug, also eyeballs.
01:49 This is another ring I want from Little Rooms.
01:52 And another little cute eyeball necklace
01:54 from Susan Alexandra, but it's kind of expensive though.
01:57 If anyone buys this pillow before me,
01:59 I will start screaming and crying and throwing up.
02:02 If you guys know of any more eyeball related things
02:05 I should keep an eye on, definitely let me know.
