00:30 - EU aid is currently going towards supporting
00:33 the coast guards, despite their extremely poor
00:36 human rights track record.
00:39 For example, in Libya, the coast guard,
00:41 only again a few months ago,
00:43 was documented in firing shots at rescue ships
00:46 attempting to help people in distress at sea.
00:49 - Most of our actions are actually helping
00:59 to address the root causes of migration.
01:01 This is about promoting and boosting
01:02 sustainable development in our partner countries.
01:05 - We need the EU to ensure that every cent of EU aid
01:24 is going towards its proper purpose.
01:27 And that means ending poverty
01:29 and boosting partner countries' economies.
01:32 It doesn't mean ending migration and boosting borders.
01:36 And secondly, we urgently need an increase in transparency
01:40 in how the EU is allocating and governing
01:44 these public funds.
