Soap stars Alan Fletcher and Georgie Stone say they were in shock when news broke that beloved Australian soap Neighbours was being revived.
The show debuted a brand new era this week on Amazon Freevee. Fletcher — who has played Doctor Karl Kennedy for almost 30 years — says his reaction to Neighbours’ second chance was unexpected.

00:22 This is a show with casts in excess of 25 people.
00:25 This is a show that employs 200 people.
00:28 It's shot in two studios.
00:30 It's a feature film a week.
00:32 It's massive.
00:34 And when it ended, I thought,
00:36 there's no way you could possibly bring this show back.
00:40 But, you know, Amazon, they saw how many people
00:44 had watched that last episode.
00:45 They saw the petitions, they saw all that.
00:47 And they said, no, this show clearly has a massive audience
00:51 and it needs to be saved.
00:53 - I was equally shocked, but I was so happy
00:57 because I remember thinking when it ended how sad it was
01:00 that there wouldn't be an opportunity for younger actors
01:03 and younger generations to have that experience on the show.
01:06 It was so impactful and important for me as a young actor
01:10 to have my start on Neighbours.
01:12 So I was really sad that no one else
01:13 would get that experience.
01:14 So one of my first thoughts when it was announced
01:17 to be coming back was, yes, now there's a new generation
01:19 who will get that learning experience
01:21 and that wonderful foundation.
01:23 So, you know, regardless of whether I was gonna come back
01:26 or not, I was really glad that that was there.
01:28 And not just for actors, but for crew members as well.
01:30 So, and then, yeah, I was really happy
01:32 when they asked me back because also I love it.
