A once-forgotten area within the town of Skegness has been revitalised into a captivating Sensory Community Gardens Area. The transformation of this area, which was made possible thanks to Levelling Up Park Funding, promises to be a source of solace and joy for residents and visitors of all ages.

00:00 Good afternoon everybody and welcome to the event to celebrate the Rookery Gardens Regeneration
00:15 Project. Thanks to the Leveling Up Parks Fund which provided East Lindsay District Council
00:21 with funding designed to increase access to quality green areas and provide pride in place.
00:31 We have enhanced the restoration works which were originally undertaken in 2019. The project
00:39 has delivered a substantial improvement to the gardens through new planting which has
00:47 opened up the gardens with different varieties of plants to attract wildlife and people throughout
00:53 the year. We have included additional seating to increase accessibility to something new
01:02 with a dragonfly seating at the back here, a particularly eye-catching attraction. With
01:13 our new outdoor musical equipment we hope to attract everyone to come and enjoy the
01:18 diversity and sensory occasions as well. The improvements made to the garden make it more
01:27 vibrant, accessible and they provide attractions to the entire wildlife and people to come
01:35 to the area and enjoy their surroundings. We'd also like to thank our partners who
01:42 have supported the street cleansing teams and neighbourhood teams to deliver these improvements
01:48 and we hope that they'll all come towards this garden and enjoy it today and even more
01:56 in the future as the garden begins to flourish. I'd now like to hand over to Councillor Edmonton
02:02 who is the Chairman of the District Council to officially open the gardens.
