00:00 The launch of NHL 24 is almost here.
00:02 In this video, we are going to break down
00:04 all of the newest features and quality of life improvements
00:07 in Hockey Ultimate Team for NHL 24.
00:09 I'm Noah Sleeves, a full-time content creator
00:11 focusing on the EA NHL franchise,
00:14 here to walk you through everything about HUT in NHL 24.
00:17 I also sat down with the HUT dev team lead, Nicholas Shuchuk,
00:20 to get some in-depth insight for this year's game.
00:22 Let's kick things off with the biggest addition
00:24 coming to NHL 24, with the all-new HUT Moments.
00:28 This year, you'll be able to play through
00:29 some of the most historic moments in hockey history,
00:32 as well as complete moments that happened
00:34 during this upcoming season.
00:35 Now, HUT Moments will be replacing
00:37 the offline HUT challenges from past games.
00:40 In HUT challenges, you were limited to a vague set
00:43 of objectives to complete against a set roster in the game.
00:46 In HUT Moments, you will be dropped
00:48 into a specific time and scenario,
00:50 with customized players and rosters
00:52 to fit that exact moment in hockey.
00:54 And some will include a detailed breakdown
00:56 from James Cebulski to hype up that moment.
00:58 - In the opening round of the 2021 playoffs,
01:01 the Montreal Canadiens found themselves
01:03 on the brink of elimination,
01:04 trailing 3-1 to their arch-rivals,
01:06 the Toronto Maple Leafs.
01:08 It was Nick Suzuki who ignited the spark in game five
01:11 with an electrifying overtime goal,
01:14 propelling the Havs to not only force a game six,
01:17 but to also claim the series in seven.
01:20 This is your moment.
01:21 Triumph over the Leafs in overtime
01:23 and orchestrate a remarkable series comeback.
01:26 (dramatic music)
01:28 - Now, on top of the large list
01:30 representing the more recent events in hockey,
01:32 there will also be some of the most memorable
01:34 in the history of the sport.
01:36 Mario's emotional return in December of 2000
01:38 against the Leafs, all the way to Gretzky's five-goal game
01:41 against the Flyers in 1981, giving him 50 goals in 39 games.
01:46 On top of all that, some moments will actually have you
01:49 player locked to a specific player to complete that moment.
01:52 And yes, that includes goaltenders.
01:55 One of the most requested quality of life improvements
01:58 from the community has been ending a moment
02:00 when you've completed all of the objectives.
02:02 So I had to ask Nicholas,
02:04 what happens when you complete all of the objectives
02:06 in a Hup moment?
02:07 - We actually give you the option
02:08 to end the moment early this year.
02:10 I know it's something that was kind of called out
02:12 as a quality of life thing in the past.
02:14 So now, very simply, the next phase off in the game,
02:16 you'll get prompted.
02:17 You can exit and claim rewards early.
02:19 If you're having fun playing the match
02:21 and just want to play it all the way through,
02:22 you can just hit continue and still quit out
02:24 and get your rewards early anytime.
02:26 - Speaking of completing objectives,
02:28 that leads us into our next feature for NHL 24,
02:31 Objectives 2.0.
02:32 In this year's game, objectives will be tracked in real time
02:36 and can now include in-game actions,
02:38 such as goals, assists, shot types, hits, as well as deeks.
02:41 This is a massive upgrade from NHL 23
02:44 in which objectives were limited to games played
02:47 with a specific card type, such as a current event,
02:50 or simply totaling a certain stack,
02:52 like score 50 goals, regardless of the player used to do so.
02:56 In NHL 24, the objectives can be tracked
02:58 with specific cards.
03:00 For example, if a new event comes out,
03:02 instead of just games played with event cards,
03:05 it will be score goals, get assists,
03:07 and some will even have you doing so with specific cards.
03:11 Now, to keep track of these objectives,
03:13 you'll receive an in-game pop-up
03:14 while you work towards the objectives.
03:17 Now, I asked Nicholas what that means
03:19 from a developer standpoint
03:20 and what he's most excited for
03:22 when it comes to Objectives 2.0.
03:23 - We're utilizing this new tech
03:25 to actually refresh our daily and weekly objectives.
03:27 So we wanna give a different look to that stuff
03:30 and just give some new fun things to do
03:32 every day and every week.
03:33 And then on top of that,
03:34 the thing that I'm most excited about is
03:36 we're able to build Objectives 2.0
03:38 around doing things with specific player cards,
03:41 specific players, specific teams, or card types,
03:45 and all that's gonna allow event objectives
03:47 to have a lot more depth
03:49 and be a lot more meaningful this year.
03:50 - To complete those objectives,
03:52 it's going to be far easier
03:53 because in NHL 24, we are getting a shared economy.
03:57 In this year's game, you will be able to buy, sell,
03:59 and trade with players from the opposite console,
04:02 meaning that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X players,
04:05 they will now share a single market.
04:07 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players,
04:10 they will also share a single market.
04:12 Now, with it being easier to acquire the cards
04:14 you're looking for in NHL 24,
04:16 you'll be able to show them off with the all new Hut share.
04:19 This will allow you to share your roster
04:21 through a single screenshot.
04:22 It includes both desktop and mobile view
04:24 designed for easy sharing of your progress.
04:26 It'll highlight your entire roster,
04:28 as well as some of the biggest accomplishments you've made
04:31 during your time in Hockey Ultimate Team.
04:32 We're also getting the brand new XP sets.
04:35 In this year's game, you'll earn XP from logins,
04:38 daily and weekly objectives for use
04:40 in a new linear set track.
04:42 By completing all 40 sets released weekly,
04:45 you can earn yourself an all 99 overall master item.
04:48 To speak more about the new XP sets,
04:50 I asked Nicholas about how it's going to work.
04:52 - Yeah, so we wanted to look at a way of revamping
04:55 the monthly collectible sets.
04:57 And so this year we're actually gonna have
04:59 a more linear track, but the real goal of it,
05:02 the real exciting part about it is
05:03 you're actually pursuing this,
05:05 what we kind of call the ultimate Hut reward,
05:07 and it's gonna be a 99 everything card that you'll get
05:10 just from completing these sets throughout the year.
05:13 And so you get XP collectibles from daily
05:15 and weekly challenges, et cetera.
05:17 And then as you do these sets,
05:20 you'll earn individual collectibles
05:22 that work toward this ultimate reward.
05:24 I think I was mentioning like,
05:25 we really want these to represent
05:27 or be representative of what happened this year,
05:29 big stories from that year.
05:31 And so that they actually have meaning
05:33 in the context of the 23-24 season.
05:35 So right now I can only reveal two that have been chosen,
05:38 which are Kale McCarr, who's our cover athlete this year,
05:40 and Conor Bedard, first overall pick from the draft.
05:43 - Also getting a change in NHL 24 will be synergies.
05:47 There are going to be a base set of synergies
05:49 for each player type in the game.
05:50 For example, power forwards will have
05:52 the power forward synergy,
05:54 which will allow player types to more reflect
05:56 their play style in game.
05:58 On top of that, there'll be new boost synergies,
06:00 which will be added to player items through live content.
06:03 - The first thing we wanted to do was bring more meaning
06:05 to the player types in the game.
06:06 So right now they're kind of represented as,
06:09 you know, three letters on a card,
06:11 you know, two way forward, power forward, et cetera.
06:13 And this year we're actually gonna have
06:15 a power forward synergy that goes on
06:17 every power forward item.
06:18 Helps you understand when you're building a team
06:21 that you're building around a certain identity.
06:23 And on top of that, there will be another number
06:25 of synergies that are purely just boosts
06:27 and they're named a little bit more simply.
06:29 Like there's an acceleration boost, a speed boost, et cetera.
06:32 And we wanted to make that, you know,
06:35 the synergies a little bit more approachable for players
06:37 and a little bit more understandable.
06:39 - And lastly, let's discuss the content coming up in NHL 24.
06:42 X-Factors will be coming back to NHL 24.
06:45 In this year's game, there will be a representative
06:47 from every single NHL franchise,
06:50 totaling 32 players across the league.
06:52 On top of that, there will be six women X-Factor cards
06:55 from their corresponding international squad.
06:57 Team builders will also be making a return to NHL 24
07:01 with some major changes in how you acquire
07:03 the team builder cards.
07:04 As you go through and collect cards
07:06 from each individual squad,
07:08 you will get that team's 84 overall team builder card.
07:11 Once you have collected six total 84 overall
07:15 team builder cards, you could then trade them in for an 87.
07:18 However, the big change coming to NHL 24
07:21 is that it can be any of the 32 team builder cards,
07:25 meaning that you won't need to collect
07:26 every single division and every single team.
07:28 If you wanted the new 87 overall Jeremy Roenick,
07:31 you could go ahead and cash in six Jack Johnson cards
07:35 to acquire him.
07:35 Making the return to NHL 24 are the Power Up Icons set.
07:39 Now the big change to the Power Up Icons this year
07:41 will be the fact that they are broken down
07:43 into four separate categories.
07:44 You've got Playoff Heroes, Rookie Cards, Vintage,
07:48 as well as Dynamic Duo.
07:49 Now, once you are able to collect the two headliner items
07:53 from each of those four sets,
07:54 you can then trade them in for the ultimate Power Up Icon.
07:57 In this year's game, they will be Mario Lemieux,
08:00 Wayne Gretzky, and Gordie Howe.
08:02 And they will continue to upgrade throughout the year.
08:05 So from Hut moments to Objectives 2.0,
08:08 the new XP sets and updated live content,
08:11 there is a lot to do in this year's game.
08:13 Be sure to take advantage of the last chance pre-order bonus
08:16 to secure yourself a Hut team building player choice pack.
08:19 That's gonna do it for me.
08:20 I'm No Sleeves, and I'll see you in NHL 24.
