00:00 >> Hopefully we'll look a little bit better than that.
00:03 >> [LAUGH] >> That's not the last throw.
00:04 >> [LAUGH] >> Yeah, so look,
00:08 we've had a good week of practice.
00:11 Looking forward to going up to Green Bay and playing against those guys.
00:14 It's a good team that we're playing.
00:17 We've got a hell of a challenge for us, so we're excited about it.
00:19 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:23 >> I'm gonna start at one.
00:25 Dennis, when it comes to all the sort of motion and the high key and
00:30 stuff that Green Bay does, what's the biggest challenge?
00:34 >> Exactly what you just said, just make sure you put your eyes in the right spot.
00:37 And certainly being one step ahead of the offense,
00:42 understanding there's a lot of shifts and motions and things of that nature that they do.
00:47 And so you gotta anticipate that a little bit.
00:50 >> Especially with some of the match coverage stuff, does that impact that?
00:55 >> Yeah, look, I mean,
00:56 everything gets impacted when the offense is changing the picture on it.
00:59 So, look, we've always said that every time the offense is breaking the huddle and
01:06 telling you a story, you're reading the book.
01:08 So we gotta make sure we're paying attention to those guys coming out of
01:11 the huddle, see how they get lined up, see who's in what spots.
01:14 Anticipate whatever shift or motion they may give us, and
01:17 then be able to anticipate the potential play concepts they do out of it.
01:23 >> I know second game in a row you're facing a quarterback that doesn't have
01:26 much experience in the NFL.
01:28 He has maybe one more game in the season defensive right shot.
01:31 But what are the similarities between preparing for
01:34 Jordan Love and Bryce Shaw in that sense?
01:36 >> I wouldn't say there's a ton of similarities.
01:39 Obviously, a totally different offense, concepts that they do are different.
01:49 We've obviously had an opportunity to, when we played against Jordan in
01:54 preseason, we got a chance to practice against those guys last year.
01:57 So there's a little bit of familiarity with the player, and
02:00 yet we'll have to see how it plays out on Sunday.
02:05 What I do know is that he's leading the league in passer rating right now.
02:09 He's got six touchdowns and no interceptions.
02:11 So he's playing at a really high level in their execute, and
02:16 so we'll have a workout out for us.
02:18 >> You spoke during training camp, obviously, a phrase like draft and
02:22 develop, but also during training camp with competition battles,
02:26 like nothing's confirmed.
02:28 And is that kind of the case, even during the season,
02:31 especially given Kendrick Miller's opportunity to step into a big role?
02:35 I mean, by competing for more stats.
02:37 >> Look, we have to prove ourselves every day we go out there,
02:40 whether it be in practice or in the games.
02:42 And this is a highly competitive business that we're in, and
02:46 you have to perform and perform at an acceptable level.
02:49 And so I think our guys understand that they're held to a certain standard,
02:55 and they're expected to go out to play to a certain standard.
02:58 And so that's exactly what we expect.
03:01 >> We've also, Taysom's been a topic of conversation,
03:05 just because production last week, specifically as a true tailback,
03:09 is that something that can continue and
03:12 can work well with Tony and Kendrick in the backfield?
03:16 >> Yeah, look, we've used and
03:19 will continue to use Taysom in a lot of different areas.
03:24 And yet, I don't see us getting 20-something touches in a game,
03:31 because this is a long season.
03:33 It's not about just week two or week three.
03:37 A lot of these running backs get beat up in our league.
03:44 And so trying to utilize him in a way that allows us to have some success.
03:50 And yet, ultimately, we wanna have Taysom around for
03:55 the 17th game season, too.
03:57 So I think it'll always be part of what we do.
04:00 It'll always be part of our package.
04:02 And there'll be some times where it's utilized a little bit more,
04:06 sometimes where maybe it's utilized quite a touch.
04:08 So each game plans differently.
04:10 >> I mean, do you go in with a number in mind, or is it just a-
04:13 >> I wouldn't say it's an exact number.
04:15 We have plays, and we have a certain volume of plays where he's
04:24 in a number of different spots.
04:26 And then you gotta see how the game's playing out.
04:30 Obviously, it was effective with what we were doing with him in the game last week,
04:35 so there was a few more opportunities.
04:38 So we'll play each game out as it goes, but
04:42 he'll be a big part of what we do.
04:45 And even when he's not getting the ball, he's affecting the defense.
04:49 So it's not always about who gets the touch.
04:52 Him being out on the field affects the defense.
04:56 >> Joe Barry mentioned that having Taysom Hill, or having to prepare for
05:01 a team with Taysom Hill means that you kinda have to prepare for
05:03 two different offenses.
05:04 Is that something you've ever had to prepare for in your time as a defensive
05:08 coordinator, and how unique is that to you, does that challenge?
05:11 >> Well, look, I think it's an advantage to us.
05:15 I think it's a challenge on the defense when you've got
05:19 two different types of quarterbacks that play in a game.
05:23 And so, yeah, you have to have a plan when one player's in at the quarterback
05:27 position, you have to have a plan when another player's in at the quarterback
05:30 position.
05:31 I think our deal is a little bit unique in that Taysom lines up as a runner,
05:36 he lines up as a tight end, he'll line up as a receiver,
05:38 he lines up as a quarterback.
05:40 I think we haven't tried him in offensive line yet,
05:43 I don't plan on doing that, but there's a lot of different things that you can do.
05:47 >> Sticking with the offensive line, I think in both first halves of the first
05:51 two games is when the protection can be at its worst.
05:53 But when she dies, do you just throw out the game and
05:56 take the protection when it is in the second game?
05:58 >> Well, look, I think in the first game there were some things that we
06:02 had to change up from a protection standpoint.
06:06 And yet in the second game, there was just a couple times where they won.
06:13 And sometimes that happens in our league.
06:15 So go on to the next play, let's move on and just be better the next play.
06:20 So I don't really look at it as a big issue.
06:23 Obviously, we've got to protect the quarterback, certainly.
06:26 But I didn't see it as a protection plan issue,
06:33 probably a little bit more of an execution issue.
06:35 >> What stands out about Green Bay's run?
06:38 >> Yeah, look, I think, particularly when you think
06:43 about the size and the speed and the length on the edges.
06:49 I think this is one thing that I think is pretty evident when you watch him play.
06:56 Athletic, the linebacker position, specifically with Clay Walker.
07:01 And then up front, they've done overall, I think they've done a pretty good job.
07:09 I think one of the things that they do really well is I think they do rush
07:12 the passer well.
07:13 I think they create some challenges with their looks.
07:16 And I think they can get pressure on the quarterback.
07:21 >> Kendrick was asked yesterday, given the opportunity that presented itself with
07:25 Jamal going out, last week he was kind of ready but didn't go.
07:31 Now he's even more eager to play in a stadium that he's grown up watching.
07:35 How ready do you think he is, not only as a violent runner, but
07:39 working with this offensive scheme?
07:40 >> Well, look, I mean, we're gonna find out on Sunday, right?
07:45 He's got to go out there and perform.
07:48 So look, he's prepared himself all week.
07:51 He's gotten himself ready mentally, physically, emotionally to play the game.
07:54 And now it's time to go out there and perform.
08:00 That's ultimately what we're all judged on.
08:03 >> Did something happen to Paulson that looked like he was kind of-
08:06 >> He did a little hamstring.
08:07 Yeah, so I expect he'll be questionable for the game.
08:11 >> Is that from the game or did that happen in practice?
08:14 >> It came up in practice.
08:15 >> Okay.
08:15 Thanks, Steve.
08:20 >> All good?
