Previewing the Detroit Lions Week 3 contest against the Atlanta Falcons.
Transcript
00:00 John, simply who do you got in this week three matchup, the Lions or the Atlanta Falcons?
00:04 Yeah, Vito, the Detroit Lions have to turn it around. They obviously lost a tough home opener
00:10 to the Seahawks and now another team that played well last week in a victory in the Atlanta Falcons.
00:15 You look at Arthur Smith and what he's able to do, I like the way in which that team has been
00:20 built and put together. Obviously the intrigue, I think the main storyline that people are going
00:26 to want to pay attention to is Jameer Gibbs, the Lions talented running back versus B. John
00:31 Robinson, who may come in a little bit salty being that the Lions did not select him when they had
00:38 the opportunity to draft a running back. So I look at it like with David Montgomery potentially
00:43 missing this game, you're going to have a running backs by committee approach. But Vito, this game
00:48 is going to be, I think, another real close contest. This is how the Lions perform. They're
00:52 going to play close games. I think that the Falcons are going to really look to make sure that they
00:59 play a clean game for Desmond Ritter, who's kind of emerging as a young quarterback. They have a
01:03 pair of tight ends that can perform well, especially with the size and speed of Kyle Pitts.
01:09 With the Lions propensity to struggle against guarding tight ends, look for Pitts to potentially
01:15 try to find his way and mark in this contest. For the Lions, Vito, they got to clean up a lot of
01:20 things defensively. And Dan Campbell said that this is going to be a very unique challenge because
01:25 the Falcons have potentially more explosive playmakers than the Seahawks did. And we all
01:29 saw the struggles the Lions had defensively in week two. Heading into week three, Vito,
01:35 I think that the Lions are going to button up a lot of things. They're going to play a lot cleaner.
01:39 I think the offense is going to be hyper focused on making sure they finish drives with touchdowns.
01:43 And Amonrath St. Brown, Jameer Gibbs, Sam Laporta really have to come and deliver.
01:48 And Vito, this might be a game that Jared Goff has to put this team on his shoulders
01:53 and really takes over for the Detroit Lions. You look at it right now,
01:57 they're lacking explosive playmakers, but in any fashion that the Lions can control this football
02:02 game and limit turnovers and can score a lot of points, I think that this bodes well for the
02:09 Lions. But look, Vito, any given Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if the Falcons played well. But given
02:14 the fact that the Lions are salty after a real poor performance, I think they'll come away with
02:20 the victory here in week three. Don't take the Falcons lightly, John, by any stretch of the
02:24 imagination. Thanks for all the time.
