A Tiny Chinese EV with a Bronco Face, New Geely Geome Panda Knight EV 2024
The urban EV tries to look rugged with a number of add-ons, including a small plastic ladder mounted on the roof rails.
Geely's sub-brand Geometry is jumping on the trend of durable micro EVs with the Panda Knight. The new version of the Panda urban EV combines cuteness with off-road-inspired looks and sends off Ford Bronco vibes despite the notable size difference between the two.
Compared to the standard Geely Panda released in December 2022, the Knight edition has several redesigned components on the exterior that create an off-road vibe. The new face retains the round LED headlights, but they are now integrated into a faux grille covered in unpainted plastic, as are the off-road bumpers and wider fender flares.
Recovery points, hood handles, roof rails, side-mounted ladder and rear spoiler help the EV stand out even more thanks to lime green accents. Geely also added a new five-spoke design to the alloy wheels, which retain the same small diameter.
The combination of small wheels and normal ground clearance makes it difficult to justify the appearance of the crossover, which is available only for show. The greenhouse, doors, sculpted fenders and lighting units are carried over from the standard Geely Panda, although they fit well with the new components.
The add-ons make Panda Knight slightly taller, wider and taller compared to his cute sibling. But it's still quite small, measuring 3,135 mm (123.4 in) in length, 1,565 mm (61.6 in) in width and 1,655 mm (65.2 in) in height, with the same 2,015 mm (79.3 in) wheelbase.
Despite its small footprint, the interior can accommodate up to four passengers, and cargo space expands to an impressive 800 liters (28.3 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded. Amenities include an 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, an extended 9.2-inch digital instrument panel, air conditioning, new color combinations inspired by nature and a version-specific pattern for the faux leather seat upholstery.
Geely has equipped the Panda Knight with a more powerful electric motor that produces 40 hp (30 kW / 41 PS) and 110 Nm (81.1 lb-ft) of torque in its urban EV series. Similarly, they opted for a larger capacity 17.03 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which is good for an electric range of 200 km (124 miles) under CLTC protocols.
The launch of Geely Panda Knight in China is scheduled for early September 2023. Pricing is expected to be higher than the standard version, which retails between ¥39,900-56,900 ($5,470-$7,800), depending on trim. The Geely Panda Knight's main rival will be the slightly larger Baojun Yep from SAIC-GM.
