A 37-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court to a charge of causing grievous injury to her teen son by splashing hot water on him – supposedly after he used up her mobile phone data allocation.

00:13 Nor Izana Issa made the plea before Judge Mohamad Sabri Ismail at the Ayer Kero sessions

00:20 The offence was allegedly committed at the government quarters in Sungai Udang at 2.56am
00:26 on June 27 last year.
00:29 The charge was framed under section 326 of the penal code, which is punishable by a prison
00:34 sentence of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.
00:40 The 13-year-old victim is the second of her four children.
00:44 The issue came to light when the victim's classmate noticed wound stains on the boy's

00:50 The classmate told his mother, who then lodged a police report.
00:55 During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wardah Ishar submitted that bail should not
00:59 be granted as the accused and the victim lived under the same roof.
