00:04 The only other punk band that was around that we knew of
00:08 was the Stooges. But, you know, we were the only thing.
00:12 People just didn't get it. I mean, it was...and also, there was no
00:16 place to play. When we broke up, I mean, we thought that this whole scene
00:20 was over.

00:40 We never knew him as Jerome. He told us his name was Jerry Clover.
00:44 I mean, we backed up Cheap Trick at Hump and Hanna's one time.
00:48 Oh my God, what an entertainer! This guy, he's not that bad.
00:52 He's better than Monty Rock the Third!
00:56 I think that Zax was just like watching a band
01:00 go from a pretty good thing as In A Hot Coma
01:04 to a great thing as the Haskells. You know, Zax was
01:08 the place. I heard what they were playing and I really
01:12 wasn't that interested. You know what was key in getting
01:16 Damien Blaine into what we were doing
01:20 was Jerome Bridge. And the bartender pulls out a .45
01:24 like right by my head. The lubricants,
01:28 the valiance, muscle beach
01:32 from Racine. They were hilarious. I got arrested on stage.
01:36 Damien came down, bailed me out so we could finish.
01:40 The one thing I do remember is Jerome calling my house, which was a big deal.
01:44 He's like, "Yeah, they blew up our car in the backyard. This is war."
01:48 Something like that. We're assembling all of our troops and we're
01:52 becoming a movement.
01:56 And to give Jerome his credit, he
02:00 really opened up the scene as far as pursuing Kenny Baldwin.
02:04 And he started talking to me about what a wonderful place
02:08 this could be, how cool it would be if I started booking punk stuff.
02:12 Kenny was a patron of the arts. By having that place,
02:16 there's no way he was making any money on that place.
02:20 The Starship was really cold and we found frozen turds in the
02:24 toilet when we came in. It was like the SWAT team came in, these guys with
02:28 like, you know, vests and guns and the whole deal. And we're like, "What?"
02:32 And I went to the doorman, Dave Thomas,
02:36 and said, "Dave, I'm only 17, man. I shouldn't be in here."

03:28 There's something which happened in the early
03:33 time of a band called Violent Femmes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
03:38 We couldn't get any place that would let us play.
