00:09 I'm Kelvin Tong, the director and screenwriter of the film
00:13 Confinement 陪月
00:14 The title Confinement, I think it works on two levels
00:18 Both the English and the Mandarin title
00:20 We know 陪月 means confinement nanny coming to help a new mother for one month
00:24 But 陪月 also means literally 有一个人在陪你
00:28 But 那个人是谁
00:29 It also calls out another layer of tension
00:31 That's the meaning behind both the English and Mandarin titles of the film
00:34 Idea for Confinement first came about seven years ago
00:37 When I had my first daughter, just me and my wife
00:40 We realised we needed help
00:42 So we got ourselves a confinement nanny
00:44 You're a bit nervous because you don't really know this person
00:47 From then I started thinking about making horror films
00:50 Centred around the arrival of a confinement nanny
00:53 You look at the door now
00:54 Get away from the door as quickly as possible
00:57 My first horror film called The Maid
00:59 In this case, in confinement, it's about a confinement nanny from Ipoh
01:04 Coming into the house of a Singaporean family
01:06 Like, you know, after I made my first horror film The Maid
01:09 A very common comment I got from people who watched it was
01:13 "You made me quite scared of my maid when I go home"
01:15 You know
01:16 Hopefully I get the same kind of comments from confinement witches
01:19 "You know, thanks to you, like me and my wife really hesitated before we employed a confinement nanny"
01:25 But I want to state here for the record
01:26 Most confinement nannies are wonderful creatures
01:29 I mean, they are helpful, they are kind
01:31 And they are really great human beings
01:33 This is a film
01:34 Of course, when we make films, we always think about the "what if"
01:38 What if the confinement nanny is not what she seems?
01:41 What if besides helping the mother, she's got plans of her own?
01:44 And what's going to happen after that?
01:47 So I thought that would be the springboard of quite an interesting psychological thriller
01:52 And let's see how fast you are at picking those up
01:55 And so it's going to be a very fun film
01:57 And I like to come on quite often
01:59 I'll try and actually see if I'm doing it right
02:02 Because you're diving in more than you're using quite often
