00:00 One of the things that's very unique about David, and this is true of the more experienced
00:06 filmmakers that we work with, but it's especially true of David, is that he's so confident that
00:11 he's not defensive.
00:14 And he's really, every director says, "I'm open to taking the best idea," but almost
00:18 none of them actually do.
00:19 And David is great at really listening to different people, different points of view,
00:24 and taking whatever idea he thinks will make the movie best.
00:27 I think the trick of reimagining iconic movies like Halloween or The Exorcist is taking some
00:35 stuff from the original movie and then inventing new things.
00:39 Obviously, you can't just redo the...
00:40 Well, you could just redo the movie, but not a lot of people would want to see that.
00:45 So having Ellen in the movie is really an amazing way to connect this movie to the first
00:52 movie, although obviously time has gone by and she's much older and she plays herself
00:55 X amount of years later, but I think it really ties the DNA of this movie to the first movie,
01:00 which I think for me and for the fans is very satisfying.
01:04 I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist.
01:06 I actually saw it, sadly, on TV.
01:08 I wasn't quite old enough to go to the theater when it came out, but it did to me what it
01:13 did to so many people.
01:15 It scared me to death, and it continued to scare me long after I had seen the film.
01:22 Horrors and exorcisms exist throughout all religions and cultures around the world, dating
01:27 back many, many thousands of years.
01:29 Our world has felt so divided for so many years that it's a relief to see different
01:33 groups work together to fight a greater evil.
01:37 I think the moments that were most terrifying for me were some of the lines from the girls,
01:42 "God played a trick on you."
01:44 Lydia's delivery of that line gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
01:47 I've sat in a theater a few times the trailer has played, and the reaction is amazing.
