David McCallum dead: ‘NCIS,’ ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ star was 90

David McCallum, the gifted actor who starred in the hit 1960s drama “The Man From U.N.C.L.E” as Illya Kuryakin, died on Monday in New York City.

The Scottish star who also rose to fame playing chief medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, was 90.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of David McCallum and privileged that CBS was his home for so many years. David was a gifted actor and author, and beloved by many around the world,” CBS said in a statement.

The actor passed “peacefully” of natural causes surrounded by his family at New York Presbyterian Hospital, CBS announced.

The Post has reached out to McCallum’s representatives for comment.

“He led an incredible life, and his legacy will forever live on through his family and the countless hours on film and television that will never go away,” the statement from continued. “We will miss his warmth and endearing sense of humor that lit up any room or soundstage he stepped onto, as well as the brilliant stories he often shared from a life well-lived. Our hearts go out to his wife Katherine and his entire family, and all those who knew and loved David

01:25 for his role on NCIS. After returning home from the hospital Peter asked his mother Catherine

01:42 vibrant their beautiful relationship and daily lives were and that somehow even at 90 daddy
01:48 never grew old. McCollum married actress and model Catherine Carpenter in 1967 having previously
01:56 been married to singer Jill Ireland. Born in Glasgow in 1933 McCollum hailed from a
02:02 musically gifted family with his father David McCollum Sr. a famous violinist and mother
02:07 Dorothy Dorman a cellist. However, McCollum would pursue acting after a local performance
02:13 of Shakespeare's King John was well received. His thespian career grew as he featured in
02:18 numerous theatre productions including The Lion in Winter and Julius Caesar. His big
02:24 break would follow a move to America where he was cast in the role of secret agent Ilya
02:29 Kuryakin in the TV series The Man from UNCLE. Despite initially having only a couple of
02:35 lines in the show McCollum was spotted by the producers and boosted as co-star of the
02:41 Spy series alongside Robert Vaughn. He received two Emmy Award nominations during the show's
02:47 run and also starred in classic war films The Great Escape and Mosquito Squadron. His
02:54 portfolio grew on the small screen too starring as a scientist in the 1975 sci-fi show The
