Transcript
00:00 >> Well, right now, we don't know, but I know that I'm prepared and ready to go.
00:05 >> Is this an unusual situation?
00:08 Have you been in this type of situation before?
00:10 Were you sure you were gonna start on Sunday?
00:13 >> I'm not sure if I've been in this situation before, but I know someone has.
00:17 So I'm just grateful for the opportunity.
00:20 >> And James, if it is your time to go, what would it mean to you when you just
00:23 kind of reflect back on your career and if it's time to make it?
00:27 >> Every opportunity is a great opportunity.
00:29 So I'm grateful that I get a chance to get that.
00:31 And we got Alvin Kamara back with fresh legs.
00:34 He ain't played yet, so I'm really excited to play with Alvin Kamara.
00:38 >> What's it been like just to have him back at practice?
00:40 >> It's been, he's been an amazing player my whole time here.
00:47 But just his attention to detail, his ability to even help
00:51 the quarterback room out with just getting open.
00:55 He's just an amazing teammate, and I'm grateful to be his teammate.
00:58 >> When we asked him about if you were starting, he had a whole lot of
01:00 confidence in you.
01:01 What does that mean to hear that from somebody like AK?
01:03 >> Well, AK know I love me some AK.
01:05 [LAUGH] So I'm glad that he and the guys have confidence in me.
01:11 I'm definitely doing my best.
01:14 I definitely am just being the best I could be every day.
01:18 >> Is getting Alvin involved in the passing game something you're looking
01:20 forward to Sunday if you were to start?
01:22 >> I think when you have a teammate like Alvin Kamara,
01:27 who's definitely a Hall of Fame running back, you always gonna be looking his way.
01:31 >> I think Alvin actually was out with an injury last year when he faced Tampa.
01:35 When you have him in there versus when you don't,
01:37 do you notice different looks from defenses?
01:41 >> I believe that defenses always gonna have a unique plan, but
01:45 Alvin is such a premier player, they're gonna have a specific plan to
01:49 kinda get him out of the game.
01:50 So I think they really make it their agenda to kinda keep him out.
01:54 >> And how does that help you as an offense when you know that they're spending that
01:57 much time preparing for the game?
01:58 >> Well, I'm grateful that defenses don't really do that well of a job of
02:04 blocking that AK, cuz he can do it with his feet, he can do it in the pass.
02:08 And he knows, he's so selfless, he knows if they are giving him premier look,
02:12 he knows that we have Mike Thomas, Chris LaVette, Rashid Shahid, Jawan Johnson.
02:17 We have a team that's equipped and ready to go.
02:20 >> James, does Tampa Bay have as good of a linebacker duo?
02:23 Speaking of trying to defend AK, has any team you've faced in the league?
02:26 >> Tampa Bay has the best linebacker duo in the league, I believe.
02:30 I know LaVante David, I mean, I was grateful to be his team mate.
02:34 I know he's an amazing player and he ages like fine wine.
02:37 And Devin is one of the best linebackers that there is, his speed, his tenacity.
02:41 And you can just see on film that he's really locked in and focused.
02:45 >> Hey James, I know you try to make every opponent a nameless opponent, but
02:48 is it a little harder to do with this when you're playing this team?
02:51 >> Well, the great thing about this week is I'm grateful for the opportunity.
02:55 I know this is Tampa and they drafted me, but at the same time,
02:59 this is a division opponent and we have to be ready and be ready to go.
03:04 >> James, given the nature of Derrick's injury and
03:06 you haven't dealt with injuries in the past yourself,
03:08 were you kind of surprised to see him out there and
03:10 just speak to the toughness of Derrick?
03:12 >> Can you say that again?
03:13 >> Given the nature of his injury with AC sprain in his shoulder,
03:17 were you kind of surprised to see him out there today,
03:18 just given the nature of that?
03:20 >> I'm not surprised to see Derrick Carr out there.
03:22 He's resilient.
03:23 So I think that's what the team builds off of.
03:26 We got a bunch of resilient guys, but when you see a quarterback out there,
03:31 putting that, making a big team, little me, that's encouraging to everyone,
03:34 the whole locker room.
03:35 >> For the times when we're not at practice,
03:37 what can you say just about the toughness level of Derrick?
03:39 >> He's resilient.
03:42 [LAUGH] For it to be any injury in the quarterback position,
03:46 it's so mental what we do.
03:49 Anything is like a baseball player,
03:51 like any little knick-knack kind of throws you off your rhythm.
03:54 But he's well, he's feeling good, he looked great out there today.
03:58 So we just decided to have our quarterback out there.
04:00 >> Now you've dealt with that injury before, right?
04:02 >> Yeah. >> How tough is it?
04:04 >> It's challenging.
04:05 However, when you're resilient and you're focused on winning the game,
04:10 you're focused on executing every play to the best of your ability,
04:13 it just puts in the weed.
04:15 >> Is it more, since you have dealt with it,
04:16 is it more like of an uncomfortable injury?
04:19 Or I remember Drew said something about it clicking and it just feels weird.
04:23 Is that kinda what the AC screen is?
04:25 >> I think it's to each his own.
04:27 >> Okay.
04:28 >> However, I think we all ready to go, bottom line, we ready.
04:33 >> I know you're probably always confident when you're in a game, but
04:36 how much more ready are you after getting some first team reps this week?
04:40 >> Well, I'm really grateful to get the first team reps, but
04:44 I'm preparing the same every single week.
04:46 >> Yeah, you obviously got to throw to Chris early in his career,
04:51 now you're gonna get him about a year later.
04:52 How have you seen him grow from the first three weeks last year to now?
04:56 >> Well, I think he's just a dominant receiver.
04:59 I think when he came into the league, his mission was to be a dominant receiver, but
05:03 he has to feel his way around.
05:05 He won his one on ones, but now he knows I'm that guy.
