My Ferrari dream came true at Goodwood

00:15 because I'm off to go and fulfill a childhood dream.
00:18 I am going off to do something
00:20 I never thought I'd be able to do.
00:21 I'll be swapping this VW Golf
00:24 that I drive every single day to and from work,
00:26 to the shops for a Ferrari 250 Testarossa.
00:31 You know when people say that they've died
00:34 and gone to heaven?
00:35 I imagine it looks something a bit like this.
00:40 So I've got my lanyard, I've got my form all filled out
00:42 and ready to go, including the damage waiver
00:44 in case I bin it today.
00:46 I'm really hoping I don't.
00:48 It's only a replica of the 250, but my God.
00:51 No one wants to be the person that does that.
00:55 I've got my form, I've got three laps today
00:57 around the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
01:00 You can pay extra for a reconnaissance lap.
01:02 I believe she said it was an extra 20 pounds.
01:05 And you can pay extra on the track for an additional lap.
01:09 I believe that's 25 pounds.
01:11 I've driven this track plenty of times,
01:14 not in real life, but on Gran Turismo, Forza, et cetera.
01:18 So I feel fairly confident around the circuit itself.
01:22 So yeah, we're gonna go with the three laps
01:24 and yeah, let's jump in the queue, wait for our car.
01:26 So a quick history lesson here
01:28 about the Ferrari 250 Testarossa
01:30 while we wait for it to arrive.
01:31 It was built by Ferrari from 1957 to 1961
01:36 and won absolutely everything.
01:38 It cleaned up in the world of motorsport.
01:41 It won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1958, 1960 and 1961.
01:46 It also won the 12 Hours of Sebring three times,
01:49 the Targa Florio in 1958
01:51 and the 1000 kilometers of Buenos Aires twice,
01:54 as well as the Pescara at four hours.
01:57 Three World Sports Car Championship Constructors titles.
02:01 This thing was indomitable.
02:03 That might be the single coolest thing I have ever done.
02:07 Now, unfortunately we weren't able to film
02:08 inside the replica 250.
02:10 This is a car from the 1950s, 1960s after all.
02:14 So no cigarette lighter,
02:15 which means you can't plug in a dash cam.
02:17 (laughs)
02:18 But we've got a little bit of some pictures
02:20 which are gonna be on screen for you right now.
02:23 So the car was actually an automatic, which is interesting.
02:25 Obviously makes it easier for the drivers.
02:28 We were capped at a speed of 70 mile an hour
02:31 or meant to be capped.
02:34 I may have gone a little bit faster than that, a little bit.
02:37 And yeah, we've made a few good overtakes.
02:41 I've got my scorecard right here
02:43 and I'll read out what we've got.
02:45 So out of a score of 100,
02:47 so they grade you on sort of your performance on the track,
02:50 I scored 88, which,
02:51 how does that convert to exam results?
02:54 That's sort of what, a high A?
02:56 That's gotta be towards the top marks, right?
02:59 Instructor comments, great drive, nice and smooth.
03:03 So after this, I'm gonna go down,

03:08 We're gonna show you a few of the other cars on track.
03:10 There's not gonna be any more 250 drives today
03:13 by the looks of it.
03:14 We were the only ones, so I'm feeling very blessed with that.
03:17 But there are so many cars here.
03:18 I mean, you've seen there are the Roush Mustang,
03:20 there's the F1 Aston Martin V8 Vantage,
03:22 the safety car from the F1 races.
03:26 You can see it actually coming past us right now.
03:30 About time to cut the area in there as well.
03:34 Looking back, there's a Ferrari California
03:37 in the pit lane right now,
03:40 DB9, Lamborghini Gallardo, Superleggera as well.
03:45 We've got another one coming past us right now.
03:48 We made a few good overtakes as well.
03:50 A couple of people who were perhaps not quite as confident
03:53 on circuit as we were.
03:55 We darted down the inside of one of the BMWs,
04:00 which is great for the look on his face
04:01 as he saw a car from the 1950s coming past.
04:03 It was a picture.
04:05 See an old Ford GT coming past right now.
04:08 That's gonna be heading out on track.
04:09 I'm just gonna swivel so you might get a glimpse of it.
04:12 It'll be coming out on track any second now.
04:15 And just coming past down the pit straight as well,
04:18 it's gonna be a McLaren in about three seconds.

04:24 So we're gonna have a quick look around.
